Chapter 141 Victoria Investigates the Truth Behind Alexander's Injury

Kimberly had just left when Lila showed up.

"Dear, you scared me! Owen told me you got hurt, so I rushed over," Lila exclaimed.

Victoria, calm as ever, said, "Don't worry. I just twisted my ankle."

"What happened? How'd you get hurt at the company?" Lila asked. She had told Victoria to go home early, and now she was in the hospital.

Victoria gave a brief rundown but left out the part about the car bomb.

The explosion was loud enough for the police to hear. Alexander probably kept it out of the media.

Lila admired Victoria's bravery. She knew Victoria could handle herself, but kidnapping was serious.

"By the way, I noticed all the news about you cutting ties with the Kennedy family is gone," Lila said.

Victoria hadn't noticed and didn't care.

"Alexander must've done it," Lila guessed. "After yesterday, Clara's true colors are out. Let's see if she tries anything again."

Victoria doubted Clara would back off.

"Hey, Lila, Lucas called me yesterday. Ethan's dead," Victoria said.

"What?" Lila's voice shot up.

"Wesley checked it out. The police found him two days ago," Victoria added.

"Was it suicide or murder?" Lila asked quickly.

"Wesley found out it was called a suicide. He jumped off an overpass," Victoria replied.

"But didn't you break his ankle?" Lila was confused.

"I did, but with timely treatment, he could've recovered," Victoria explained.

"Even so, he wouldn't be moving that fast. It's been less than half a month," Lila pointed out.

Victoria was puzzled too.

She later checked Ethan's records at the company. No hospital had treated him. He should've gone to a big hospital unless someone covered it up. The last place he was seen was the overpass.

And why did the police target Clara specifically?

Victoria couldn't figure out how Clara contacted Ethan, but the police did in less than a day.

They chatted but reached no conclusion.

Lila left to prepare for a script after signing a contract with Harrington.

After Lila left, Victoria got a call from Thomas.

"Vicky, I found what you asked for. Sent the details to your email," Thomas said.

"Thanks," Victoria replied.

"Don't be so formal," Thomas said, sounding a bit helpless.

"Why are you investigating Alexander? He's not just the head of the Howard family. He was in Country M for an arms deal and got ambushed. It was linked to someone named Christopher Howard. He covered his tracks well, but we found out," Thomas added.

"Christopher?" Victoria frowned, remembering he was Keith's son from the Howard family tree.

She didn't hide it and said, "Alexander is my husband."

Thomas, lounging on the sofa, nearly fell off. "Wait, what? You're married?" he shouted.

"I'll explain later. I have to go," Victoria said, hanging up before Thomas could respond.

Thomas stared at his phone in shock. Betty Moore walked in, and he said, "Betty, Vicky just said Alexander is her husband. What does that mean?"

Betty paused, then said, "It means Victoria is probably married."

Thomas was unsettled. Vicky wasn't someone just anyone could match. He needed to dig into Alexander's background.

Meanwhile, at the Kennedy villa in Ridgewood, tension was high. The Kennedy Group was in trouble, and Clara was involved in a serious case.

"This is all Victoria's doing. She can't stand Clara doing well," Elodie ranted in the living room.

Clara, looking worn out, hadn't slept all night. She never expected Ethan's accident to drag her into this mess.

"Shut up! If you hadn't suggested severing ties, none of this would have happened!" Oliver roared.

Elodie and Clara were startled. Oliver regretted severing ties with Victoria, thinking it would avoid offending the Barnes family. Now, they were in a worse position.

Clara, once the family's pride, was now a source of embarrassment. Her hatred for Victoria grew.

"Grandpa, I'm sorry. I didn't see this coming. I'll take the blame and focus on the upcoming perfume competition," Clara said, trying to make it right.

Oliver's anger eased. The Kennedy Group thrived on perfume products, and Clara had a unique talent. Her success had boosted the company.

Elodie chimed in, "Yes, Clara got second place before. This time, she goes straight to the finals."

Oliver, feeling relieved, said, "Focus on the competition. Don't worry about anything else."

Clara nodded, "I will, Grandpa. I'm sure I'll snag first place this time."

Oliver felt reassured. He hoped she would win the championship. "Good, that's the spirit! Now that's a Kennedy!"

Clara clung to this identity, knowing it was something she could flaunt in front of Victoria, who had failed in perfume-making.
