Chapter 493 Victoria Wants to Interview

Lavinia felt as if she'd been slapped across the face by Victoria's words.

Just moments ago, she had twice referred to Ezra as "not knowing any better." Yet Victoria had called him smart and well-behaved.

No parent dislikes hearing their child praised, especially when that child was as cherished as Ezra was by the Knox couple.

This only darkened Lavinia's gaze toward Victoria, who remained completely unfazed and simply ignored her.

"Ezra, come here. It's impolite to cling to people like this," Selene stepped forward, beckoning to her young son.

Ezra shook his head, pouting. "The beautiful lady isn't just anyone—she saved my life. I want to stay with her."

Selene was at a loss for words. Was her son drawn to Victoria because of her beauty or truly because she had saved him?

Victoria gently ruffled his hair and said softly, "Be a good boy and go back to your mother."

"But I..." he looked up at her, disappointment evident in his eyes.

"If you really want to learn self-defense, we can discuss it when you're older. You can come find me then," Victoria conceded, though she was mostly just humoring him.

"How old do I need to be?" he asked, his round eyes full of curiosity.

Victoria named an arbitrary age. "Let's say when you're sixteen."

Ezra thought for a moment, then nodded. "Okay, but you can't go back on your promise. I'll come find you."

With that, he reluctantly let go of Victoria's hand and walked back to Selene.

Selene couldn't believe how obedient he'd suddenly become.

Lavinia's dignity took another hit. Her own brother wouldn't listen to her but immediately obeyed Victoria, whom he'd only met once!

Suddenly, Ezra asked curiously, "Beautiful lady, are you and Uncle Alexander married?"

He had heard Alexander's staff address her as his wife, but he wanted confirmation.

Victoria hesitated before nodding, unsure how to respond to the child's question.

Just then, Knox broke the awkward silence. "We won't disturb Mr. and Mrs. Howard any longer," he said, addressing Alexander. "When we return to Rihegde, we'll host a dinner to properly thank you both for saving our son."

Alexander acknowledged this with a slight nod.

Later, in their car, Selene tried to console her daughter. "Lavinia, Mr. Howard is married now. You need to let this go. I will find you an even better husband."

They had all known about Lavinia's feelings for Alexander. They had waited, hoping the Howard family would choose her as Alexander's wife out of gratitude for saving his life, but it hadn't happened.

The Harrisons weren't an ordinary family either, so they hadn't pressed the matter. They'd assumed she had moved on, but today proved otherwise.

With Alexander married, pursuing him would make her nothing more than a mistress—something the Harrison family, with their strict moral code, would never allow.

"When your mother and I suggested arranging this marriage, you said it wasn't necessary," Knox scolded sternly. "Now that you've missed your chance, he's no longer available. Don't covet what isn't yours."

Lavinia remained silent, unable to argue, but her obsession only intensified.

Ezra listened quietly. Though young, he wasn't foolish.

Meanwhile, back in the hospital room, Victoria glanced distastefully at the chair Lavinia had occupied before moving to sit on the sofa.

Marcus, ever perceptive, took the chair with him as he left. "Mrs. Howard, Mr. Howard, this chair needs cleaning. I'll ask the nurse for a new one," he said before quickly slipping out.

Victoria sat on the sofa with casual confidence, completely lacking any ladylike pretense. She simply made herself comfortable.

Suddenly, she remarked nonchalantly, "Mr. Howard, I'd like to interview you, if you're willing?"

Alexander, hearing her lazy, playful tone, felt inexplicably uneasy.

Nevertheless, he nodded in agreement. "Very well."
