Chapter 164 This Child Cannot Be Born

In a flash, it's been five days since getting back from Country M.

Today, the weather in Rihegde took a nosedive. When Victoria left her place this morning, there was still a bit of warm sunshine.

Now, the sky outside was all gloomy and misty, and soon enough, it started drizzling.

Rihegde's weather could be a real wild card sometimes.

Victoria stood by the office's floor-to-ceiling window, watching the clear raindrops hit the glass one by one.

Her slim figure reflected on the glass, and just then, there was a knock on the door. It was Wesley.

"Come in," she said.

Wesley pushed the door open, and she slowly turned around, heading back to her desk to sit down.

"Ms. Kennedy, the front desk just signed for this package for you," Wesley said, handing her the envelope. "The delivery guy insisted it had to be given to you personally."

Victoria couldn't remember any business that needed a package, and she usually wouldn't have it sent to the office. Even if she did, it would be addressed to Wesley or Lenora.

She took it and ripped open the envelope.

Inside was a thin piece of paper with a paragraph written on it.

Wesley hadn't left yet, and suddenly, he saw Victoria's face darken, her brows furrowing. He heard her cold, indifferent voice, "Find the person who delivered this package!"

Fifteen minutes later, Wesley brought in a young guy wearing a yellow uniform.

The young guy looked honest and simple.

"Ms. Kennedy, I've got him," Wesley said.

Wesley was quick, but it also helped that the guy hadn't gone far and was delivering food nearby.

The guy looked around the fancy office, a bit dazed.

He couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy for these white-collar workers, regretting not listening to his parents and studying hard.

Suddenly, the office chair that had its back to them turned around, revealing a cold and beautiful face. A thought flashed through his mind, 'So beautiful.'

Before he could admire her for a few seconds, a cold voice snapped him out of it. "Who asked you to deliver this envelope?" Victoria's calm eyes stared straight at the guy.

When she opened the envelope, the piece of white paper had this paragraph printed on it: [After your twenty-fourth birthday, the shares of the Kennedy Group left to you by your mother will be transferred to someone in the Kennedy family. The Kennedy family knows everything.]

There wasn't even a trace of handwriting, all printed, showing extreme caution.

The guy glanced at it, scratched his head, and honestly replied, "I don't know either. Someone placed an order on the platform, and I just took it." He paused, puzzled, and continued, "And I didn't see the person when I picked up the document. He just told me to go to a designated place."

The young guy didn't provide any useful info, just the order number and a brief reply.

The contact number left by the other party was also invalid.

All the info was fake. It seemed the person who sent this letter was very cautious.

Victoria fell into her thoughts, staring at the line of words in front of her. Her bright eyes suddenly darkened.

No wonder Oliver and Simon weren't in a hurry to take back the shares of the Kennedy Group from her. Although they would mention it occasionally, they always gave her the impression that they weren't in a rush.

No wonder they agreed so readily to the one-and-a-half-month deadline last time. They had calculated the time, waiting for her to turn twenty-four.

Ever since the news of Clara's pregnancy spread, the past two weeks, Clara was treated much better than before.

Pregnant with the Tudor family's child, her treatment has taken a turn for the better.

And Felix and Heather, who were originally going to break off the engagement, had to put it on hold.

When Lucas got the call from Felix and Heather, he was kinda shocked. He never thought Clara would get knocked up so fast.

But even with the baby on the way, Clara didn't get what she wanted. Felix and Heather used the pregnancy as an excuse, saying it wasn't the right time for a wedding and that they'd wait until after the baby was born.

Clara and Elodie were chatting in the room.

"Mom, what do we do now?" Clara asked, feeling super anxious and restless.

"This baby can't be born," Clara said, her face pale and worried, staring at Elodie.

Elodie didn't look much better. She gave Clara a disappointed look and scolded softly, "Since you're with Lucas, why'd you sleep with someone else? You're usually so smart, how could you be so dumb about this!"

Elodie never expected that Clara wasn't carrying Lucas's baby.

Clara stayed quiet. She didn't mean to, but that night a friend invited her out, she drank too much, and ended up sleeping with someone else.

Actually, she wasn't sure who the baby's father was, because the two times she had sex were too close together.

But she didn't want to take the risk. No matter whose it was, she didn't dare to keep the baby now.

But it wasn't practical to have an abortion openly.

She could only create an accidental miscarriage, and it had to be successful in one go.

After wrapping up her work, Lila came to Victoria at the Horizon Group.

"Hey, come have lunch with me," Lila said.

Victoria checked the time; it was just noon, so she got up, grabbed her coat, and the two left.

They went to a nearby restaurant.

As soon as they sat down, Lila casually asked, "Why hasn't Alexander had lunch with you lately?"

Victoria calmly replied, "He's busy."

Thinking back, since they got back from Country M, he had been busy.

Except for seeing him at night, he was gone by the time she woke up in the morning.

But he would usually update her on his schedule on Facebook.

She didn't think much of it, considering Vertex Holdings Group was such a large enterprise with many subsidiaries.

Lila complained, "From my observation, this isn't like Alexander. Since marrying you, he's been around almost every day. Wasn't he busy before?"

Victoria didn't mind, took a sip of water.

Lila continued, "The day after tomorrow is your birthday. Are you not planning to celebrate it this time?"

Victoria paused before saying, "No. You know I don't like these things."

Lila shrugged, with a tone of regret. "Alright, but it seems I won't need to accompany you this time. With Alexander by your side, it's good."

After lunch, they returned to the company.

Two days later, Victoria woke up, washed up, and went downstairs, only to see Alexander still sitting in the living room.

For seven days straight, he had already left for the company by this time.

Alexander was wearing a black shirt, elegantly and nobly leaning on the sofa, reading a finance book.

He seemed to sense her intense gaze and looked up at her the next second.

Their eyes met.

Alexander closed the book, got up, and walked towards her, ruffling her hair. "You're awake. Let's have breakfast, and I'll drive you to work."

Alexander drove her to the Horizon Group building.

She had just unbuckled her seatbelt and was about to get out when Alexander grabbed her wrist. As she turned back, Alexander's lips met hers.

Not until he was satisfied did he let her go, pressing his forehead against hers, his voice a bit hoarse. "Don't you have anything to ask me?"

Victoria blinked her slightly misty eyes, puzzled, ask what?

After a moment of contemplation, she asked, "Do you have time to have lunch with me today?"

Actually, she really wanted him to accompany her today. Although she didn't want to celebrate her birthday, she did want him to have a meal with her.

"Probably not at noon, I have an overseas contract negotiation," Alexander said.

"Then tonight," Victoria said.

She wasn't a sentimental person. Being in the same position, she understood the rules of the business world.
