Chapter 440 The Battlefield Between Two Men
Ronnie's shot was actually meant to kill Victoria, and originally, what Marigold was suffering should have been Victoria's fate.
Winter looked at the increasingly emotional Victoria and said, "Victoria, don't worry, Marigold will be fine. She has survived worse before."
Outside the ICU observation room.
Victoria and the others looked through the glass window at Marigold, who was lying on the hospital bed with tubes all over her.
She didn't know how long she had been there.
Kimberly and Winter had been with her the whole time.
Until they were about to return to the ward, they saw several black-clad bodyguards standing outside a certain ward in the corridor.
"That seems to be Mr. York's ward," Eugene said from behind. "Did something happen?"
As they approached, they were stopped by the bodyguards at the door.
"Who are you? You can't enter here!" one of the bodyguards said sternly.
"Vicky?" Suddenly, a female voice reached their ears.
Victoria turned around and saw Chloe and Cressida standing to their right, with a woman who looked exactly like her.
One minute later.
"You guys," Chloe said angrily, hands on her hips, looking back and forth between the standing and wheelchair-bound Victoria. "Which one of you is the real one?"
"Chloe, Cressida," the Victoria in the wheelchair said helplessly, rubbing her forehead before looking at them.
Chloe and Cressida immediately looked at her, feeling a sense of familiarity.
They squatted in front of Victoria, examining her closely.
Victoria's right hand was bandaged, so they didn't dare to touch it.
Cressida, with a cold and beautiful face, stared at Victoria. "Who did this?"
Chloe, serious and angry, stared at her. "George got into trouble, and you hid it from all of us. You even went to rescue him alone and came back injured? Victoria, do you think this is fair to me? What did you promise me before?"
Victoria swallowed hard. "Okay, I admit I hid it from you. But rescuing George was an accident. I didn't know Ronnie had already taken him out of Base 103."
She spoke seriously and sincerely; she wasn't lying.
Today's events were purely coincidental.
At first, she didn't know Ronnie had set a trap for her.
And Ronnie himself probably didn't expect that the trap he set would ultimately trap him as well.
A typical case of losing more than gaining, and he ended up paying the price.
After Victoria explained the situation to them, Chloe went to find a doctor to ask about her condition. After being assured that Victoria was not seriously injured, they finally felt relieved.
Then, Chloe told Victoria about what Bryan did at the engagement party today.
"Why aren't you surprised at all?" Chloe was a bit surprised by her reaction.
After all, what Bryan did today was unprecedented, given his special status.
"Do you know who the woman he took away is?" she asked curiously.
"I have a rough idea," Victoria replied.
While they were gossiping, in another ward, several men sat together, looking at the somewhat timid Thomas.
"Cedric, Arnold, it's not my fault," Thomas said, looking at the two men interrogating him, who he couldn't afford to offend, feeling a bit scared.
Cedric, with a cold and handsome face, showed his anger.
Arnold, usually gentle, was also unusually serious and slightly angry this time.
"Explain how it's not your fault," Cedric's deep and hoarse voice carried an inscrutable meaning, but it filled Thomas's heart with fear.
Thomas's Adam's apple moved a few times before he spoke, "Alright, I admit it was my fault. I didn't double-check the information, allowing someone to exploit the loophole."
One moment Thomas thought it wasn't his fault, the next he admitted his mistake.
The men were used to his behavior.
Then he explained everything in detail.
"Heaven's Net has a traitor?" Arnold squinted his eyes and asked, questioning his ability.
This time, Thomas didn't refute because the problem was indeed on his end.
He had already asked Betty to investigate thoroughly.
"Where is Ronnie now?" Cedric asked, his killing intent evident.
"He was taken away by Vicky's husband," Thomas said.
He had discovered a secret about Alexander but decided not to mention it.
In this ward, except for Cedric, the other three had met Alexander.
Cedric frowned but didn't ask further.
Then he got up and went out to call Bodhi Astor.
"Bodhi, I don't care how you do it, find the base of the 103 organization. I'll give you five more days!"
He hung up without waiting for a response.
Far away at the mercenary base, Bodhi said, "Cedric, I... Hello? Hello?"
Bodhi looked at the hung-up phone, feeling helpless, but he didn't dare to call back.
After making the call, Cedric went to Victoria's ward.
When Victoria saw him, she smiled and called out, "Cedric."
Cedric responded and walked up to her. "You always do things that catch us off guard."
Although his tone was somewhat reproachful, it was more gentle than harsh.
"Fortunately, you're okay." He raised his hand and ruffled her hair.
"Sorry, I..." Victoria bit her lip, but before she could finish, she saw Alexander standing outside the ward, having returned at some point.
Cedric noticed her gaze shift behind him and turned to look, his hand still affectionately on her head.
Two men with equally powerful auras locked eyes, as if it were a confrontation between two formidable forces.
Arnold, Bryan, Thomas, and even the unconscious George had all met Alexander, but Cedric hadn't.
Victoria opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't know what to say.
In the ward, besides her and Cedric, Chloe and Cressida were also there.
Chloe had heard her husband mention Vicky's husband, but Cressida knew nothing about him.
The two suddenly felt the atmosphere become tense, as if a war could break out at any moment.
"Hey, why don't you come in and chat?" Chloe cleared her throat, breaking the tension.
But she immediately regretted it, as she had forgotten Vicky's husband's name.
In the ward.
The two men sat on opposite sides of the sofa.
Victoria, in her wheelchair, was pushed to the middle, like a judge.
Chloe and Cressida stood on either side of Victoria like guardians.
There were five people in the ward, but it was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Victoria sighed inwardly, regretting listening to Chloe and letting them come in to talk.
