Chapter 172 The Truth Was a Bit Unexpected for Her

Alexander left Dylan to handle the follow-up matters and left with Victoria.

In the car, Alexander initially wanted to ask if she had been scared.

But he then remembered her resilience in battle and composure amidst a bomb threat, sighing quietly.

Victoria didn't seem to be that timid, so he changed his question. "Home? Or back to the office?"

Victoria, sitting in the passenger seat, thought seriously for three seconds before turning to him with a smile and softly saying, "Home."

"Alright." Alexander reached out to rub her back head before starting the car and driving away from the police station.

After a moment of silence in the car, Victoria spoke up, "Before you came, I kept thinking about one question."

Alexander, focused on driving, responded, "What question?"

"She got what she wanted, and in their eyes, I have nothing. Is it worth risking her life multiple times to destroy me? This time, she even risked her unborn child to frame me. Sometimes, I wonder, does my existence really scare her so much?" she said, staring ahead.

When she saw Clara throw herself down without hesitation, she was indeed stunned.

She didn't consider herself a good person; she could be ruthless when it came to survival.

But Clara was different. Clara's self-harm this time made Victoria realize what true ruthlessness was, calculating even her own child. It showed just how dark Clara's mind was.

Alexander replied, "Human greed."

In an instant, this sentence resolved Victoria's confusion.

Yes, the essence of human nature is self-interest.

Victoria found it ironic and tragic for the Kennedy family, not herself.

She then shared her doubts about why Clara would throw herself down the stairs in front of her with Alexander.

Hearing this, Alexander narrowed his eyes slightly. "I'll have Dylan look into it further."

"No, I already had Lila ask Owen to do a DNA test."

Soon, Lila and Owen had results.

Just as Alexander parked the car in the garage, Lila's call came in.

"Dear, my God, I just said it casually, but it turns out Clara really isn't carrying Lucas' child." Lila's surprised laughter came through the phone. "Lucas doesn't know he's been cheated on yet. If he finds out his loved Clara betrayed him, he'll be furious. Just imagine the scene!"

The result was exactly as she had guessed.

Clara miscalculated; she never thought they would do a DNA test, nor did she know Victoria had a friend at the Cleveland Clinic.

"Dear, what should we do next?" Lila asked, clearly looking forward to seeing Clara's downfall.

"Wait. Don't worry about it." Victoria remembered something. "Also, Lila, make sure to take Marlowe to my apartment. I won't be there."

"Got it," Lila responded.

After hanging up, she briefly explained to Alexander, who then instructed Dylan and Marcus to investigate who Clara had been cheating with.

In the living room, Victoria thought of Marlowe and Grant's divorce and casually asked, "Honey, do you know about Marlowe and Grant's divorce?"

Alexander, holding her hand, paused slightly. He really didn't know; Grant hadn't mentioned it.

Victoria then heard him calmly reply, "Now I do."

Victoria was silent for a moment.

Then she heard Alexander speak again, "Their divorce was inevitable, but did Grant really let her go?"

Victoria shook her head. "I don't know. Marlowe only said she divorced Grant. Lila and I didn't ask for details because we didn't want to upset her."

Alexander's deep eyes flashed with a hint of insight.

The next second, Victoria found herself inexplicably pinned on the couch by Alexander.

Before she could react, Alexander's lips were on hers.

She didn't resist and quickly accepted his sudden, passionate kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck to respond.

Their lips and tongues intertwined, transitioning from fierce to gentle.

The atmosphere grew increasingly intimate, their breathing heavier.

After what felt like an eternity, long enough for her to feel like she was suffocating, he finally pulled away from her lips. He then nibbled on her earlobe, and she could clearly feel his arousal, but he didn't move, neither dared she.

After a while, she heard Alexander's deep, magnetic, and seductive voice in her ear, as light as a feather, making her whole body tingle. His voice was too alluring, and she had no self-control over it, especially when he was emotional.

"I'm not like Grant," Alexander said gently.

Victoria, suppressing the tingling sensation, blinked her slightly misty eyes at the chandelier on the ceiling, taking a few seconds to understand what he meant.

"I know." Her voice was a bit hoarse and coquettish from the recent passion.

An hour later, Dylan and Marcus arrived at Serenity Grove Manor with the information they had gathered.

The truth was somewhat unexpected.

Seeing her silent and hesitant expression, Alexander asked, "Feeling soft-hearted?"

Soft-hearted?

How could she be soft-hearted?

"No, just thinking." She then told Dylan, "Dylan, please take the information to the police and have them bring someone to the hospital. Make sure they inform Lucas that there's a result."

Dylan replied, "Got it."

Dylan and the others left to carry out their orders.

Alexander, holding Victoria's waist with one hand, raised an eyebrow and looked at her with deep eyes, a smile on his lips. "Victoria, what are you thinking?"

Victoria smiled, leaned in, and whispered in his ear.

After hearing her, Alexander chuckled, "Very clever of you."

In the Cleveland Clinic, Clara had woken up, just finishing a scene of immense grief over losing her child.

She had just closed her eyes for a few minutes when the door opened again. Thinking it was Elodie returning with something, she weakly said with her eyes closed, "Mom, you're back so soon?"

No one responded, and she realized something was wrong. She opened her eyes abruptly to see Victoria standing at the foot of her bed.

"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be..." Clara asked with fear.

Victoria didn't miss the flash of surprise and fear on Clara's pale face. Clara seemed too weak to finish her sentence, so Victoria completed it for her. "You mean I should be locked up in the police station right now."

Clara was momentarily speechless. She had indeed been looking for an opportunity to accidentally lose the baby. Initially, she hadn't planned to frame Victoria, but when Oliver and Simon said she couldn't get back her original 30% shares, she decided to do so. She wanted to use this incident to have Victoria condemned again, killing two birds with one stone.

Although the baby hadn't been born yet, it was still alive. Victoria pushing Clara down the stairs was equivalent to murder, which would directly confirm Victoria's guilt. But she hadn't expected Victoria to still be standing here. Why?

Clara had heard that Victoria was taken to the police station and assumed she was still there. Clara didn't dare to ask too much about Victoria, fearing it would give her away.

Seeing Clara's silence, Victoria smiled. "I just wondered if you'll have nightmares when you fall asleep ?"
