Chapter 354 She Provokes Him
"Nicholas, are you wondering why she knows the truth but hasn't come to find me?" Esme asked.
Nicholas replied, "Ms. Penrose, please give Ms. Kennedy some time to process it. She probably just can't accept it right away."
Esme looked at the plants outside through the floor-to-ceiling window, as if she had already anticipated this outcome.
A bitter smile flashed across Esme's face. "I should have known that Victoria wouldn't easily accept this fact."
Nicholas said, "But all these years, Ms. Kennedy has never stopped looking for the truth. It shows she really cares about you."
Esme sighed. "Sometimes, not knowing the truth and knowing it are two completely different things."
Nicholas didn't know what to say for a moment.
"After all, I've kept too many things from her," Esme said, fully aware of Victoria's struggle. "She must hate me for being alive back then but not taking her with me."
"Ms. Penrose, you had your reasons, and Victoria will understand." Nicholas frowned slightly.
Esme chuckled. "Given her personality, no matter what my reasons are, Victoria won't accept them, and there are some things I can't tell her."
Nicholas said, "Ms. Kennedy can take care of herself, and she has Alexander by her side."
Esme sighed and turned to him. "Nicholas, I don't want her to get involved in this pointless struggle."
Nicholas understood Esme's concerns and worries, so he didn't say anything more.
The next day, Victoria received a call from Tilly, who said she had arrived in Ridgewood and wanted to have a meal with her.
"Sorry, Tilly, I can't go out right now." Victoria said, glancing at Alexander out of the corner of her eye.
Tilly sounded a bit puzzled. "Victoria, what's wrong?"
Victoria didn't hide it from Tilly. "I got hurt and I'm in the hospital."
Tilly was shocked and asked anxiously, "Is it serious? Which hospital? I'll come see you right away."
Victoria listened to her barrage of questions, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
"Stop." Victoria interrupted, "Tilly, don't worry; I'm fine. I can still attend the perfume contest."
Tilly didn't care about that anymore. "No, I don’t feel good about it. Why don’t you skip this one? There will be another chance, and you can be the judge next time."
Victoria thought for a moment before asking, "Tilly, since when did you become so casual? If I don't go, how will you explain it to the public? You've already announced it."
"That's easy." Tilly didn't think it was a big deal. "Just say you had something come up last minute. No one will dare say anything with your reputation."
Victoria replied, "No, I have to go."
If Victoria didn't go, the main character would be missing. Then how could the show go on?
Tilly knew her well and asked puzzledly, "You were so reluctant before; why are you so eager now?"
Victoria smiled. "I just changed my mind."
"Are you really okay? Don't lie to me." Tilly asked one last time, still worried.
"Of course not," Victoria answered with a question.
Tilly compromised. "Alright, since you won't let me see you, I'll head back to the hotel first. I still have to meet with the other four judges later."
After hanging up the phone, a deep, pleasant voice sounded in Victoria's ear, "You're attending the perfume contest?"
She replied, "I'm just attending as a judge."
Alexander narrowed his eyes slightly and said in a deep voice, "What?"
Victoria beckoned him with her finger, looking mysterious. "Come here, I'll tell you."
Alexander complied and walked over.
"Bend down, and lean in." Victoria commanded again.
Alexander obediently did as she said.
Victoria leaned her head close to his ear and whispered a few words.
Immediately, Alexander's body visibly stiffened.
Victoria quickly pulled away, distancing herself from him.
Before Victoria could sit down, Alexander had already closed in on her. "Getting bolder?"
Alexander's voice, deep and slightly hoarse, filled the room as he leaned in, his strong arms trapping Victoria.
"I'm a patient right now." Victoria said righteously.
After whispering in his ear, Victoria got a mischievous thought and bit Alexander's earlobe, giving it a playful suck.
After being together for so long, she finally discovered one of Alexander's sensitive spots. Along with his alluring Adam's apple, his earlobe was just as sensitive as hers.
"And then? Mrs. Howard?" Alexander's eyes were misty, and his deep, husky voice whispered in her ear. "Mrs. Howard" was deliberately spoken in a lower tone, and just those few words were enough to make her heart flutter. Victoria instinctively pinched her arm to clear her head. Alexander quietly observed from the side.
"You can't touch me; my injuries haven't healed yet." She retorted.
Alexander raised an eyebrow, ignoring her words. She tried to step back, but he was quicker, his hand pressing against the back of her head, holding her in place.
He had been holding back for days, but today she had pushed him too far. His mouth claimed hers, fierce and tender. During a brief pause, his voice, rough with desire, whispered, "Mrs. Howard, don't tease me. I know how to avoid your injuries." Their breaths mingled, hearts racing.
"I..." she began, but he kissed her again before she could finish.
Then Victoria sat on the bed, flushed, eyes on the bathroom door, listening to the running water.
Moments ago, she thought he would go further, but he pulled away. She couldn't help but admire his self-control.
At that moment, Victoria received a text message. She opened it and took a look: [Victoria, everything is done.]
Her eyes, still misty, flashed with a hint of cunning.
