Chapter 263 Feelings Grow Over Time?
Seeing Grant's name pop up on his phone, Alexander picked up, "She's with me. What's up?"
Half-reclining on the bed, Alexander held the phone he’d lazily tossed aside last night. His voice was rough with sleep.
He glanced at Victoria, curled up next to him, one hand on his chest and the other draped over his waist, half-hugging him.
Right now, his eyes and heart were all about the soft, delicate Victoria lying beside him.
Victoria seemed to be having a restless sleep, her brows slightly furrowed, probably disturbed by the phone's vibration. He tried to keep his voice down while talking to Grant.
Grant was saying something on the other end.
Alexander, keeping his voice low, calmly replied, "She's still asleep."
His sleepy eyes were full of affection as his free hand gently stroked the back of her head, soothing her.
Gradually, Victoria's furrowed brows began to relax. She nuzzled against his waist and went into peace again.
Grant, on the other end, clicked his tongue and croaked, "Can't you just wake her up? I need to ask her something."
Alexander was silent for a moment.
Grant, who had stayed up all night, also had a hoarse voice. Unlike Alexander, he looked pretty troubled.
Alexander said, "Your anxiety to find Marlowe is no stronger than my wish to have Victoria stay in her nice dream."
Alexander guessed right. Grant and Victoria had no connection, and if there was any, it was through him. Grant was undoubtedly looking for Victoria because of Marlowe.
Grant was speechless.
Alexander took a deep breath to hold back his temper, which was already a sign of respect for Grant.
Grant had never lost his cool like this before. It was still dark, only 5:30 in the morning, and he kept calling Victoria.
Alexander answered Grant's call because they were best friends. Alexander would definitely deal with anyone else for their unwelcoming call in so early in the morning.
Grant was indeed anxious and agitated, feeling like he had butterflies in his stomach.
After Alexander finished speaking, Grant didn't say anything else, nor did he hang up.
Alexander said, "Marlowe doesn't want to see you. If you insist on seeing her, you'll only annoy her and frustrate yourself. Why bother?"
If it weren't for Grant, Alexander wouldn't have bothered to say these things.
But Grant clearly didn't agree. He sneered, "If Victoria ever refused to see you and asked for a divorce, would you be so calm?"
Alexander, who had felt a slight twinge of sympathy for Grant, instantly darkened. He thought Grant deserved it. No wonder Marlowe wanted a divorce, even hiding her pregnancy from Grant. Grant truly had an infuriating tongue.
Since that was the case, he wouldn't hold back. Glancing at the now peacefully sleeping Victoria, he quietly got up and walked to the balcony.
Alexander said coldly, "You can rest assured, Victoria only loves me. The foundation of our relationship is different from yours. We are mutually in love!"
Grant's mouth twitched. Before he could speak, Alexander continued in a teasing tone, "No, I should say, Marlowe and you never had any emotional foundation."
"You two just married for convenience, and she was your tool for venting your desire. When you married Marlowe, wasn't it to torment her? To make her live in pain? You've wasted five years of her life. Once you're divorced, if you show your dislike for her, I guarantee no one will hire her, and no one will dare to approach her. Her life and work will be severely restricted. Isn't that what you want? Wouldn't it be better to wait for her to come back to you in desperation? She's only been missing for one night, and you're so eager to find her. Don't tell me you've fallen in love with her, that you've developed feelings over time?" Alexander said a lot, but the last sentence was the key point.
Grant instantly fell silent. His brows didn't relax because of Alexander's words; instead, he frowned even tighter. His stern face grew darker, and after staying up all night, stubble appeared on his chin, making him look slightly haggard yet still maintaining his noble and dignified demeanor.
Alexander's slightly dismissive attitude towards Marlowe made Grant very unhappy.
After a moment of silence, Grant didn't answer his question but coldly said, "As long as I haven't agreed to the divorce, she's still my wife!"
Alexander snorted lightly, saying nothing.
Then, Grant asked, "When will Victoria wake up?"
Alexander said, "I don't know. You've waited this long; a few more hours won't make a difference."
With that, he hung up, muted his phone, and went back inside to see Victoria, who filled his heart. He then lay back down in bed.
As soon as he lay down, Victoria instinctively snuggled up to him. He wrapped his arms around her, and They fell asleep while hugging each other..
Grant, who had been hung up on, looked somewhat dejected.
He sat in the living room for a long time until the first rays of morning sunlight streamed in through the window. Only then did he get up and head to the bathroom.
