Chapter 476 The One Who Pays is the Boss
Bryan had no idea Victoria had been injured. After his disappearance from the engagement party, Arnold and the others had been too preoccupied to inform him about the incident.
"What happened to you?" Bryan asked, completely bewildered.
Victoria cut straight to the point, "I don't care where you are right now—get Ruth to contact Adrian immediately."
"Bryan, do you realize how embarrassing this is?" she continued.
"What? I haven't embarrassed you," he protested.
"You abandoned your own engagement party and essentially brought along Adrian's daughter. He's calling me trying to find her. How is that not embarrassing?" Victoria fired back. "Taking Ruth away without explanation—imagine if this gets out. What will people think of her?"
"If you've truly made up your mind, have the decency to speak with Adrian directly. Stop with these disappearing acts!" she added.
Bryan fell silent. His engagement to Eloise Windsor had never been his choice. If Ruth hadn't appeared that day, he probably would have gone through with it. But she had come, triggering his escape from the engagement party. These past few days, he'd been inseparable from Ruth, who clearly returned his feelings.
"I understand. I'll handle it," he finally replied.
The next morning, just as Victoria finished breakfast, Thomas arrived with shocking news.
"Thomas, what did you just say?" Victoria asked in disbelief.
"Cedric and his mercenaries destroyed the 103 Organization's base on Whispering Pines Border island yesterday—blew it to smithereens," Thomas repeated.
Before Victoria could respond, he added, "They found the exact location and took out the entire operation. Only Miguel Jimenez, the leader, managed to escape beforehand."
Victoria frowned, completely blindsided by this information.
Thomas glanced discreetly at Alexander, who sat beside Victoria. This operation undoubtedly had Alexander's fingerprints all over it. According to Cedric, someone had provided crucial intelligence, and Thomas could only assume it was Alexander.
"Don't worry, Cedric and his team are fine," Thomas assured her, mistaking her concern for the mercenaries who had once been her companions.
Meanwhile, Griffin had just landed in the Kingdom of Serenia. As he settled into his car, his phone pinged with a message from an unknown number. The bodyguards in the front seats immediately sensed the wave of hostility radiating from their boss, so intense that the driver didn't dare ask their destination.
Griffin stared at his phone, his jaw clenched and eyes darkening dangerously. His knuckles turned white as he dialed a number, barely containing his fury.
"Miguel, you better have an explanation for this!" he growled when the call connected.
On the other end, Miguel sat in a dilapidated wooden cabin where he'd fled with his surviving men. He took a final drag from his cigarette before flicking it to the floor.
"Mr. Windsor, shouldn't I be asking you that question?" he retorted. "You assured us that Whispering Pines Border was the safest location for our base. Now it's been reduced to rubble. How do you plan to compensate us?"
When Griffin remained silent, Miguel continued with a veiled threat, "Don't forget, Mr. Windsor—I've kept records of every transaction between us. If word gets out about the atrocities you commissioned, you'll have more than just me demanding retribution. Those inhumane experiments? All documented. Imagine what the international community would think of the esteemed Griffin Windsor then."
Griffin's expression darkened to something truly demonic. After a deep breath, he spoke through gritted teeth, "Listen carefully, Miguel. Deliver all those records to me and perform one more task, and I'll give you whatever sum you desire."
Miguel chuckled. "No problem. Just name it—as long as the money's right."
"Wait for my call," Griffin said coldly before hanging up.
The bodyguard nervously glanced in the rearview mirror, startled by Griffin's terrifying expression.
"Mr. Windsor, where to?" he finally managed to ask.
"Presidential Palace," Griffin replied, his voice ice-cold.
"Yes, sir."
Back at the residence, Marcus received the call and immediately went to deliver the news.
"Mrs. Howard, Mr. Howard," he announced, "Griffin has returned to the Kingdom of Serenia. He just left the airport."
