Chapter 237 Husband in Name Only

At that time, someone called the cops, and they ended up at the station.

After everything got sorted out, they needed bail.

Marlowe didn't wanna call Grant, and she didn't have her phone. The only other number she knew by heart was Lila's, so she had to hit her up.

In the end, the chubby woman who had slapped Marlowe twice had to apologize to Marlowe under Victoria's icy stare and the evidence laid out. "Ms. Rivera, I'm sorry. I got it all wrong."

The chubby lady seemed pretty genuine in her apology, and Marlowe didn't have much else to say. She never planned on making a big deal out of it.

Marlowe shook her head. "I accept your apology. You can go. But I won't be teaching your daughter anymore, and I'll let our supervisor know."

The chubby lady nodded with a forced smile. "Okay, thanks."

Then she grabbed her husband who just got chewed out by Victoria and snapped, "Aren't you coming?"

They both left in a hurry.

Victoria signed the papers and left with Marlowe.

"Marlowe, how's your face?" Victoria asked, worried.

Marlowe touched her face. It hurt and was a bit swollen, but she smiled and said, "It's fine. I'll just ice it when I get home."

Marlowe had never been slapped before. At that moment, her mind went blank, her ears rang, and her head pounded.

Marlowe stumbled when a student bumped into her from behind. But the student's father ahead of her quickly caught her and managed to break her fall. If she had known it would lead to this mess, she would've preferred to fall.

As soon as they got in the car, Marlowe asked, "Victoria, can you take me back to the dance studio? I need to grab some stuff and handle a few things."

Victoria replied, "Sure." She then told Alexander the address.

When the drama went down at the dance studio, Stephanie was still in class. She heard about it from other teachers later.

Stephanie didn't believe Marlowe would do something like that.

She wanted to call Marlowe, but since Marlowe's stuff was still there, Stephanie decided to wait. She didn't have any more classes anyway.

When Marlowe arrived, Victoria wanted to go in with her, but Marlowe refused her politely and said that she'd be quick.

Marlowe went straight to the manager's office and explained the situation. The manager didn't blame Marlowe, trusted her, and agreed to transfer that girl to another class.

Then Marlowe went to the locker room and ran into Stephanie, who had been waiting for her.

"Marlowe, you're back? Are you okay?" Stephanie quickly stood up from the bench, looking worried.

As Marlowe got closer, Stephanie saw the red, slightly swollen handprint on her face.

"Oh my God, this doesn't look so good," Stephanie exclaimed, wide-eyed.

Marlowe looked indifferent. "It's nothing. The swelling will go down by tomorrow." Then she asked, "What are you doing here?"

"I was worried about you. I wanted to call you, but they said you didn't take anything with you." Stephanie's concern was genuine; she truly cared about Marlowe.

Marlowe was quite touched. They hadn't known each other long, but Stephanie, a few years younger, treated her very well. Marlowe was closest to Stephanie here.

Sometimes Marlowe found it ironic that someone she had just met, like Stephanie, could care so much about her, while Grant, whom she had known for so long, still held prejudices against her.

They left together.

Marlowe's classes were canceled for the next few days, so she could rest. Teaching in her present condition was out of the question anyway.

Stephanie's jaw dropped when she saw the sleek black Maybach parked out front. "Marlowe, is that your friend's ride?"

Stephanie had seen plenty of parents rolling up in $500,000 luxury cars to pick up their kids, but this car? This was in the millions, maybe even tens of millions.

Stephanie was a bit of a car nut and knew her stuff.

Marlowe nodded, understanding why Stephanie was so shocked. Alexander came from serious money, so of course, his car was top-tier.

Stephanie's eyes widened even more when she got in and saw the handsome guy and gorgeous woman inside.

Both of them had this air of nobility and a strong presence, especially Alexander behind the wheel.

Marlowe gave a quick intro.

Victoria smiled and said, "Hey there."

Stephanie shyly replied, "Hi."

Victoria was drop-dead gorgeous.

Stephanie always thought Marlowe was elegant and beautiful, but she didn't expect Marlowe's friend to be even more stunning. Victoria had this cold, striking beauty that was hard to ignore.

And Alexander was silent but had this mature, noble vibe. But he was even colder than Victoria, making him seem unapproachable.

Victoria smiled again. "Just call me Victoria."

Stephanie nodded cutely. She had this adorable face with big round eyes and delicate skin, making her look super cute.

Stephanie was a bit reserved from her usual self.

In the end, Victoria insisted on taking Marlowe to the hospital.

Marlowe couldn't change Victoria's mind, so she went along with it.

Alexander stayed silent the whole time, sticking close to Victoria.

The doctor quickly checked her out, gave her some anti-inflammatory meds, and told her to ice it at home.

As they walked through the first-floor lobby, there was a commotion at the entrance.

They saw Grant rushing in, carrying Michelle towards the elevator, followed by a man, a woman, and a nurse.

Alexander and Victoria exchanged a knowing look at Marlowe.

Stephanie had seen Grant once before. She remembered seeing him with Marlowe at a restaurant and a few times outside the dance studio when he came to pick Marlowe up in a limited edition Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Stephanie wasn't dumb; she had a hunch that Marlowe and Grant's relationship was complicated.

Marlowe didn't say anything, and Stephanie didn't ask. She pretended not to know.

But in this situation, Stephanie was still worried about Marlowe and couldn't help but ask, "Marlowe, you okay?"

She had seen Grant with Michelle at the restaurant, and now he was carrying Michelle again.

But Stephanie was on Marlowe's side. She didn't know why, maybe because they had spent so much time together. She knew Marlowe wasn't the type to mess up someone else's relationship. Marlowe was beautiful, kind, and gentle, so she wouldn't stoop to such things.

It wasn't until the elevator doors closed that Marlowe snapped out of it. She smiled. "I'm fine. Let's go."

In the elevator, when Grant turned around, Marlowe saw panic and worry on his face.

Marlowe mocked herself inwardly. She was mistaken for a homewrecker and slapped for no reason, while her so-called husband was with another woman. But he was only her husband in name.

Since Abigail's death, Grant hadn't shown such concern for any woman.

Even though she had been married to him for five years, she had never received such treatment. Even if she died in front of him one day, he probably wouldn't care.

All three of them saw the mockery and self-deprecation on Marlowe's face, aimed at herself.
