Chapter 162 Victoria Goes to Underworld Specter Again
Two hours later, Alexander was holding Victoria's hand as they bounced out of the Turner Villa.
Leonard had wanted Victoria to stick around for dinner, but if she stayed, Alexander would have to stay too, so he decided to let them both go.
"What were you and Alan chatting about downstairs?" Victoria asked as soon as she slid into the car.
Mostly 'cause when she left, Alan looked troubled, a mood he seldom wears.
Alexander was fiddling with her fingers and said, "Just guy stuff."
Victoria rolled her eyes.
But she still felt the need to clarify, "I only see Alan as an older brother."
Hearing this, Alexander smirked. "I know. I mean, come on, I'm the best. Even a fool would pick me."
Victoria rolled her eyes again.
He was cocky, but she kinda dug it.
She didn't say anything back, just grabbed her phone and shot off a message.
An hour later, just as she and Alexander got back to the hotel, her phone buzzed with a few new messages.
Melissa Baker: [Victoria, through the O Alliance's digging, the person you're looking for is in the Underworld Specter of Country M.]
[This guy's a researcher, but he's got a nasty gambling habit.]
[And in the past month, someone shady's been helping him cover his tracks, someone from the Azure Gang.]
After reading, Victoria replied: [Got it.]
Soon, another message popped up, but this time it was more personal: [When are you coming back?]
Victoria's face stayed cool: [I'll come back when I can.] Then she tossed her phone onto the sofa.
Melissa, chilling at the O Alliance base, saw that all-too-familiar line in the Facebook chat and couldn't help but smirk.
She'd seen that same line a million times over the past two years!
Victoria had planned to head back to Rihegde the next day, but because of something Leonard needed, she had to stick around another day.
The next day, she grabbed Kimberly and headed back to the Underworld Specter.
Alexander had some stuff come up, so he didn't tag along.
This time, Craig came out to greet her personally. She wasn't flattered; she actually respected Craig's hustle and adaptability.
"Who are you looking for? I'll get someone to bring 'em to you." Craig stood next to her, looking super eager to please.
Victoria didn't rush to respond, her tone playful and laid-back. "Wow, getting the VIP treatment now, huh? Last time you said you'd break my legs."
Craig was left in an awkward silence.
'Man, she has a sharp tongue. Can’t she cut me some slack? Is she trying to make him look bad on purpose?' he wondered.
He could only muster an awkward smile. "It's not about the treatment. It's about making sure you're happy and satisfied."
After all, the woman in front of him was the wife of the real boss.
Victoria then dropped a name, and Craig ordered his guys to bring the person over.
A few minutes later, a chubby middle-aged dude named Percy Wheeler was dragged into an office.
Percy had been hanging out at the Underworld Specter for the past month, with cash constantly flowing in and out of his pockets.
But he lost more than he won.
Still, he wasn’t scared; he got more hooked because even when he lost, someone would cover for him.
Getting yanked away by the Underworld Specter folks freaked him out.
His face went pale, pupils shrank, and his lips and teeth started to chatter.
He glanced around the bright room, spotting someone on the sofa, but he didn’t dare look up.
Because when he walked in, he saw the sign on the door: Craig's Office.
The name Craig was like a death sentence in the Underworld Specter, just hearing it made him shake in his boots.
And he was just a small fry, never having seen much of the world.
But what had he done to tick off Craig?
Victoria sat on the sofa, her cold eyes emotionless as she stared at the slightly hunched Percy.
"Percy, do you still recognize me?" Victoria asked.
Percy slowly looked up at the familiar voice.
"It's you?" Percy couldn’t believe that Victoria, who had vanished for two years, would show up here.
If he remembered right, this was a major base of the Underworld Specter’s boss, a place regular folks couldn’t even get close to.
Yet here she was, chilling on the sofa.
The shock and fear in his eyes were crystal clear to Victoria. She smiled faintly, a harmless smile that made Percy even more terrified.
He had messed up; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been hiding out at the Underworld Specter for nearly a month.
"How thoughtful of you to remember me." She spoke slowly, her eyes holding a mysterious smile. "It's been two years, so I’ll give you a reward. I’ll give you a chance to guess why I’m looking for you after two years. How about that?"
