Chapter 215 Under Someone's Orders
In the car, Kimberly shot a glance over. "Mrs. Howard, where we headed?"
"The 'burbs," Victoria snapped back.
"Gotcha." Kimberly peeped at the rearview mirror; the truck behind them was tailing like a madman.
Folks on the road saw this fancy, limited-edition ride being chased by a plain old truck, both zooming so fast they were just blurs.
Alexander's car was right on their tail too.
Victoria grabbed her phone and dialed.
Alexander picked up in a flash.
"Honey, get someone to clear the road to the 'burbs, pronto," she blurted out.
She heard Alexander echo her words immediately.
Then, with a worried tone, he asked, "You hurt?"
"Nope," she felt a warm fuzzy feeling and said softly, "Don't sweat it."
Alexander let out a clear sigh of relief. He'd seen her jump into Kimberly's car but couldn't tell if she was hurt.
"I'm right behind you, don't freak out," Alexander reassured her gently.
Then Dylan's voice cut in. "Mr. Howard, we dug up that the truck owner’s Antonio Lloyd. Records say he's just a regular truck driver. Our guys reached out, and he said he sold the truck yesterday. The buyer's name is Matteo Patel, but we’re still waiting on more info."
Victoria muttered, "Matteo Patel?"
Alexander asked, "You know him?"
"He used to be a partner with the Horizon Group. Later, he snuck illegal stuff into Starry's products and sold them under Starry's name, so I cut ties with him," Victoria explained.
No wonder he seemed familiar; his face was just all dirty and sallow, making him hard to recognize at first.
No company would put up with that crap; it was a hard line.
But why would he want to kill her over this? Could something have happened that she was unaware of?
Dylan suddenly chimed in, "Mr. Howard, Matteo's company went belly up four months ago, but he skipped town with the cash and left a ton of debt. Yesterday, he suddenly cleared all his debts."
Victoria didn't need Alexander to repeat it; she heard it all.
Both of them frowned a bit.
Victoria lowered her gaze and said, "Someone's pulling his strings."
Alexander's lips tightened, his eyes icy, and his voice cold. "Find out who's behind this."
Their thoughts were in sync.
Dylan got on it and made a call.
The road to the 'burbs was cleared in no time, leaving it wide open.
Clearing the road was to dodge any accidents and keep innocent folks safe.
Luckily, no one got hurt earlier.
Before Victoria hung up, Alexander mentioned that cops were already outside the 'burbs. They'd figure out a way to stop the truck and nab Matteo.
Soon, Victoria got a text from Alfonso.
He'd already set up spike strips at the entrance to the 'burbs. They just needed to lure Matteo there.
Meanwhile, she had to keep them safe.
Victoria said, "Kimberly, switch seats, I'll drive."
Kimberly didn't have time to ask why. She slowed down, and they swapped spots quickly.
Matteo in the truck was momentarily thrown off when he saw the car in front slow down, but he didn't think much of it. His target was Victoria, so he floored it again.
With only one thought—to ram the car—he didn't question why they were heading to the 'burbs.
By the time he realized something was off, it was too late.
