Chapter 284 Meeting Clara
Dylan was just about to knock when the door swung open.
He froze for a second, then quickly stepped aside.
"Mr. Scott, you..." Dylan started, but Grant's icy glare shut him up real quick.
Grant stormed off.
Dylan hesitated about whether to follow and open the elevator for him but decided it wasn't worth the risk of pissing him off more.
'What did Alexander do to tick Grant off this bad?' he wondered.
He lingered at the door for a moment before stepping into the office and closing it behind him.
"Mr. Howard," Dylan greeted.
Alexander was sitting there, looking calm and composed, a total contrast to Grant's earlier rage.
"What is it?" Alexander asked, glancing up.
Dylan's face turned serious. "Mr. Howard, we still haven't found Zing, but the base can't wait any longer."
Alexander thought for a moment. "Got it. Besides, set up a visit to the base for tomorrow."
Dylan nodded. "Understood."
Victoria and Lila had just finished lunch together.
As they got into the car, Lila asked, "So, what's next, hon?"
Victoria replied, "I'll drop you off first, then head to the research institute to check on things."
Lila knew Victoria was heading back to work.
Ever since that academic seminar, Lila felt Victoria was more suited for research; being a CEO seemed like a waste of her talent.
"By the way, the Kennedy family hasn't been bothering you lately, have they?" Lila asked.
"No, why?" Victoria replied.
Lila sighed, "I heard the Kennedy Group's in some trouble. They mentioned something about issues with their business partners, which might cause a cash flow problem."
Victoria listened, unfazed.
Even though she still had shares in the Kennedy Group and was technically a shareholder, she didn't care; she just wanted to annoy the Kennedy family.
Lila muttered, "I thought with their shamelessness, they'd come to you. After all, you have multiple identities, and you're Alexander's wife. They'd definitely try to suck up to you."
Victoria chuckled, "They might want to, but they can't even get close to me."
Lila and Victoria kept chatting casually.
After dropping Lila off at her company, Victoria drove straight to the research institute.
The research institute was ideally situated in Rihegde, neither too close to downtown nor in a remote area. It was a serene locale with convenient access to transportation..
When Victoria got to the institute, Clara had already been waiting for half an hour at their meeting spot.
Clara's texts seemed to vanish into thin air, with no replies at all.
After another ten minutes, Clara's patience ran out, and she called Victoria directly.
Victoria was touring the institute and had just bumped into the renovation manager for a quick chat when her phone rang.
She recognized the number right away—it was from someone who had messaged her earlier.
After a moment's thought, she picked up.
To her surprise, it was Clara, sounding pretty ticked off. "Victoria, where are you?"
Victoria smirked and let out a cold laugh, her voice lazy. "Oh, it's you. What do you want?"
She suddenly remembered what Lila had mentioned earlier. Could Oliver and Simon really be dumb enough to send Clara to find her?
"It's about your mother," Clara said and hung up before Victoria could respond.
After hanging up, Clara's lips curled into a smug smile. She knew Victoria would definitely show up now.
Victoria listened to the call ending, raising an eyebrow slightly.
Clara's words had definitely piqued her curiosity.
Putting her phone away, Victoria headed out.
Coincidentally, the place Clara had picked was a café near Vertex Holdings Group, just across the street.
Before going in, she sent Alexander a message on Facebook.
When she walked into the café and sat down in front of Clara, Alexander had just wrapped up a two-hour video conference.
His phone had buzzed a few times, and Alexander immediately checked it. Seeing a message from "Honey" on Facebook, he didn't even take a sip of water before opening it.
Victoria: [Honey, I'm at a café near Vertex Holdings Group. I'll come find you later.]
She also sent her location.
He replied right away.
Clara looked at Victoria, trying to hide her jealousy. She had to admit, Victoria was stunning.
Just as Clara was about to speak, Victoria's phone rang.
Victoria hadn't planned to speak first; she just gave Clara a deep look and then checked her phone.
She knew it was Alexander's reply.
Faced with Victoria's indifference and coldness, Clara had to swallow her dissatisfaction.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she said proudly, "I've made it to the finals of the International Fragrance Competition."
