Chapter 39 Develop Your Relationship Well
Starlight Diner had six floors. The top floor had one private room, and one needed facial recognition to get in. Regular folks couldn't access it.
While Julia was plotting against Victoria, Victoria was already in the top-floor private room.
"Sorry I'm late, Grandma Davis," Victoria said, taking off her trench coat and putting it on the rack with her bag.
She wore a white cashmere sweater, black skinny pants, and casual boots, looking relaxed.
Thalia was chatting with Alexander when she heard Victoria.
"Victoria, have you been skipping meals? You look thinner," Thalia said.
Mia thought Victoria looked healthier.
Victoria smiled at Mia, "Hey, Mia."
Mia nodded, "Victoria."
Victoria sat next to Thalia, holding her hand. "Grandma Davis, no matter how much I eat, you always think I'm thin. But really, I haven't lost weight. Pinch my cheek if you don't believe me." She leaned in.
Thalia pinched her cheek lightly and said, "You do seem to have gained a bit."
Victoria asked Thalia a bunch of questions about her health, sleep, and eating.
Alexander watched quietly. Victoria was completely relaxed and genuinely smiling, showing how much she cared for Thalia.
Alexander thought, 'If I had known about her troubles with the Kennedy family, I would've helped her sooner.'
But he was busy with family issues back then.
Luckily, it wasn't too late.
"Stop worrying about me. Talk to Alexander. He came to pick me up and has been waiting with me for half an hour," Thalia said, looking pleased with Alexander.
Victoria turned to Alexander, smiled, and said, "Thank you."
"No problem. Your matters are my matters. It is my duty to pick up your grandma," Alexander said, his eyes full of affection.
Victoria looked away slightly, sipping the water Alexander handed her.
Thalia watched them, smiling.
"You two should get along well. I'd love to see your child before I pass away," Thalia suddenly said, surprising everyone.
Victoria's hand trembled slightly.
"Grandma Davis, don't say that. You need to stay healthy," Victoria said, ignoring the child comment.
But Alexander didn't ignore it.
"Don't worry, Grandma Davis. We'll work on it," Alexander said.
Thalia was thrilled. "Good, I'll be waiting for your child."
Victoria frowned at him. He really dared to say anything.
But Alexander's gaze was so intense she had to look away.
Victoria realized she couldn't compete with Alexander in this area.
Soon, someone came in to serve the dishes.
Meanwhile, in Room 202, Julia had been waiting for a long time without seeing Victoria. In her anger, she smashed a cup.
"Bitch, she must've left," Julia fumed.
Clara was a bit disappointed too. She wanted to flaunt her closeness with Lucas in front of Victoria, but it seemed that chance was gone.
Still, she pretended to comfort Julia, "Forget it, Julia. She's my sister after all. Don't be mad. Let's go shopping tomorrow. I heard there's a new batch of high-end bags."
Julia's mood lifted instantly. Shopping always did the trick.
Soon, Lucas walked in, dressed in a blue suit.
Clara's eyes lit up, and she looked at him affectionately.
Lucas, standing at five feet nine inches, had a tall and elegant figure, making him quite the handsome guy. When he saw Clara, his eyes softened with tenderness.
Julia watched with envy.
Lucas sat next to Clara, holding her hand. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I was meeting a client."
Clara, always understanding, said, "It's okay. Your work is important. We haven't been waiting long. But even when you're busy, you need to eat on time."
Lucas loved her understanding nature. He patted her head, "Alright, I'll listen to you."
Julia chimed in, "Clara and you are perfect together. Victoria doesn't deserve you."
Lucas frowned, his face darkening.
Julia continued, "We ran into Victoria at the door. She arrogantly said we didn't deserve to eat here and even threatened Clara to stay away from you. But you two are already broken up, and she's still clinging on. It's shameless." Seeing Lucas's reaction, she added, "Cousin Lucas, don't be fooled by Victoria. Clara is the one for you."
Clara, seeing Julia had said enough, pretended to stop her, "Alright, Julia. She's not like that. Since she agreed to break off the engagement, she won't bother Lucas anymore."
She glanced at the silent Lucas.
Unexpectedly, Lucas said with authority, "Enough, don't mention her again. I only love Clara. Don't bring her up in front of me."
With Lucas's words, they had to shut up.
Clara was thrilled, while Julia could only watch their intimacy in silence.
The atmosphere in the two rooms was completely different. One was gloomy, the other filled with laughter.
After their meal, it was 8:30 p.m.
Thalia insisted they didn't need to see her off, saying they could just arrange a driver to take her back.
Thalia's exact words were, "You two should spend more time together and try to get pregnant soon. I won't take up your time."
Victoria was stunned and felt helpless.
Alexander kept agreeing with Thalia.
In the end, they had Dylan take Thalia and Mia back to the nursing home.
Once Thalia and Mia left, only she and Alexander were left in the room. His gaze was intense and ambiguous, making her feel a bit breathless.
"Let's go," she said, wanting to leave quickly. She got up to get her coat and bag.
But before she could take two steps, Alexander pulled her into his arms.
She instinctively placed her hands on his shoulders, and they stood close, facing each other.
She wanted to move, but Alexander held her waist, making it impossible.
"Don't move. Stay still," Alexander warned.
They were both adults, and Victoria understood the implication, so she didn't dare to move.
"Do you need something?" Victoria asked when he stared at her for a long time without speaking.
"Yes!"
Victoria remained silent.
