Chapter 295 News about Esme

Victoria sneaked a peek at Alexander, who was lost in his book, then quickly looked away.

She'd been waiting for him to ask about her day, but he hadn't said a word. Wasn't he curious about what she and Christopher had talked about?

Little did she know, Alexander had overheard every bit of her chat with Christopher.

Feeling puzzled, she hesitated. Then Alexander's deep, smooth voice broke the silence, "Got something on your mind? Just spill it."

Since he seemed genuinely interested, she decided to go for it. She turned to him, leaned in a bit, and asked, "Aren't you curious about what Christopher said to me today?"

She used to keep things to herself, but ever since she started dating Alexander, she couldn't help but share everything with him.

Alexander's brows furrowed for a second but then relaxed. His eyes sparkled with a faint smile as he gently said, "Yeah, I'm curious. Go on, I'm all ears."

She spent about eight minutes vividly recounting the events of the day to him.

Seeing Alexander's calm and unbothered expression, she asked, confused, "Why aren't you reacting?"

Alexander, reminded by her question, cleared his throat.

He wouldn't tell her that he was so mesmerized by her voice that he momentarily forgot to react.

Snapping back to reality, he looked at her with a gentle, appreciative gaze. "You're really smart. You've learned to solve problems without using violence."

Victoria felt something was off and raised an eyebrow, squinting slightly as she stared at him for a few seconds. "Why do I feel like you're just humoring me?"

Alexander raised an eyebrow slightly. His eyes always held a gentle look when he faced her, and his lips were always curved into a smile. "That's because you're so smart and have been praised too many times."

His smile and gentleness were meant only for her. Every time she saw this side of Alexander, she couldn't help but be drawn to him.

Sometimes, it made her mind go blank, slowing her down in her tasks.

Not wanting to continue the topic, Alexander changed the subject, "Where are the documents you brought back?"

Victoria turned to put down the fruit platter, then turned back to face him. She knelt on the sofa, crawled over him, and her unique fragrance filled his nostrils.

Alexander instinctively put down his book and gently circled her waist with his right hand to steady her.

He turned his head slightly and saw her take a brown envelope from the bookshelf beside him.

As she stretched back, Alexander let go. Once she was seated, she handed him the envelope, "Here it is."

Alexander glanced down at it, then looked up at her. "You didn't look at it?"

Victoria shook her head. "No." She had just put it down when she got back.

Alexander raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why didn't you look?"

She bit her lip lightly and didn't say anything.

The next second, Alexander spoke for her, "Afraid it's not the answer you want?"

She nodded.

She didn't have the courage to open it, whether the information Christopher provided was true or false.

Most importantly, she wanted Alexander to look at it with her, which would make her feel much more at ease.

"You look at it first, then tell me," Victoria said, tossing the envelope to him and slumping back on the sofa to wait.

After a bit, Alexander broke the silence. "I'm done reading."

Victoria immediately turned to look at him, her eyes bright and beautiful, but he could still see the nervousness she was trying to hide.

He didn't spill the beans right away. Instead, he motioned for her to come closer.

She scooted over obediently.

Alexander took the chance to wrap his arm around her waist, lifting her onto his lap, half-holding her, his expression serious.

Victoria felt a sudden unease, quietly watching him, waiting for him to speak.

She had considered numerous possibilities, but never anticipated this one.

"It says the person cremated back then wasn't Esme," Alexander said in a low voice. "But we still need to check if it's true."

She stared at him in shock and asked again, "What do you mean?"

Before Alexander could respond, she grabbed the documents and started reading them herself.

The shock and confusion in her eyes mirrored Alexander's, though he hid his emotions out of habit.

Alexander frowned slightly and pursed his lips. "I'll have Dylan re-investigate this."

Victoria couldn't believe the info Christopher had provided.

Although it didn't specify the cause of Esme's death, it gave her another mind-blowing piece of news.

The documents claimed that the person buried in Esme's grave wasn't Esme. How crazy was that?

If it wasn't Esme, then who was it?

And where was Esme?

Victoria's mind was spinning.

Were these things true or false?

And how had Christopher found out?

Why had she never discovered any of this?

"Honey, I'm so confused," Victoria said, looking at Alexander with dim eyes.

Then she leaned on his shoulder, trying to process the sudden news.

Alexander squinted slightly, raising his hand to pat her back. "It's okay. I'm here."

He knew she wasn't scared or terrified, just unable to wrap her head around the situation.

He couldn't understand it either. How could such a bizarre and absurd thing happen around him?

Victoria didn't wake up on time the next morning because Alexander had kept her up late last night.

Alexander's efforts to distract her last night worked, as he managed to lift her spirits. As a result, she missed her entertainment news.

By the time she woke up, freshened up, went downstairs, and had some breakfast, she finally answered what felt like the hundredth call from Lila.

Lila thought no one would answer again, but Victoria picked up after just a few rings.

Before Victoria could speak, Lila said excitedly, "Honey, you finally answered! Do you know how cool you are? That fifteen-second video is more exciting than any movie."

Hearing Lila's words, Victoria was very confused.

Suddenly, she squinted her eyes slightly, recalling what Kimberly had mentioned yesterday.

Then Lila's next words confirmed her suspicion.

"Honey, tell me, is that big tiger Alexander's pet?" Lila asked. If it were Victoria's, Lila would have known, so it had to be Alexander's.

It seemed Clara had really posted the video online. Victoria took the phone away from her ear, opened Instagram, and saw that her name was trending with a lot of discussions.

She casually scrolled through a few posts and found that it was somewhat different from what she had imagined.
