Chapter 133 Unexpected News

"Who are you?" Simon asked, eyeing the group blocking their path.

The leader, Alfonso Romero, flashed his badge. "We're detectives from the Rihegde PD. I'm Captain Alfonso Romero. Which one of you is Clara?"

Simon and Elodie froze. Lucas was also taken aback. Why were the detectives looking for Clara?

Clara herself was puzzled.

Lucas stayed calm and spoke up, "Mr. Romero, she's my fiancée. Why do you need her?"

Alfonso recognized Lucas from the news. "Routine check. We found a body under the overpass yesterday. It's Ethan Powell, and Clara was the last person he contacted."

Everyone was stunned, especially Clara. She stepped back, eyes wide with fear. Ethan was dead?

Alfonso noticed her reaction, confirming she knew Ethan.

Lucas frowned, looking grim.

Meanwhile, Victoria had just returned to the office when Lucas called.

"Did you have anything to do with Ethan's death?" Lucas asked.

Victoria snapped, "Are you out of your mind? Don't talk nonsense!"

Lucas was taken aback by her tone. "Do you know Ethan is dead?"

"What?" Victoria sounded genuinely surprised.

"Clara was just taken by the detectives," Lucas said.

Victoria's voice turned icy. "So, you're accusing me of killing Ethan and framing Clara?"

Before Lucas could reply, she continued, "I think you're losing it!" Then she hung up.

Victoria was surprised by Ethan's death and asked Wesley to investigate.

Half an hour later, Wesley reported, "Ms. Kennedy, it's true. They found his body yesterday, but it's not public yet. They say it was a suicide."

Victoria tapped her desk. Suicide? That was unexpected. He had secrets, even in death. Interesting.

"Alright, I see. You may go," Victoria said.

"Yes, ma'am," Wesley replied and left.

Clara's day had been chaotic. Elodie blamed Victoria for everything. Lucas told them to go home and let him handle it.

At 7 PM, Clara was released from the Rihegde PD, visibly shaken. Alfonso and his colleague Wade Jordan escorted her out.

"Thanks for your cooperation. If you remember anything else, contact us," Alfonso said.

Clara nodded, and Lucas took her away.

"Alfonso, do you think she's involved?" Wade asked, watching them leave.

"No direct link," Alfonso said, "But she has secrets, which might explain Ethan's suicide."

Years of experience told him Clara wasn't being truthful. She claimed they weren't close, but her reaction said otherwise.

"Look into her high school years," Alfonso ordered, giving Wade a familiar kick.

"Got it, Alfonso," Wade replied.
