Chapter 268 New Year's Day
Time flew by, and before you knew it, it was New Year's Eve.
For most folks, New Year's Day was pretty much the same every year—hanging out with family or siblings.
But for Victoria, this year was different.
Alexander headed to the office early in the morning, and by noon, they were off to Harmonious Convalesce Court to have lunch with Thalia.
Victoria had wanted to bring Thalia back to Howard Villa, but Thalia preferred to stay put. She said lunch together was enough; she liked the peace and quiet.
Luckily, Thalia was in good health, which made Victoria feel better, especially with Mia around to look after her.
Every time they met, Thalia would glance at Victoria's belly. Victoria knew Thalia really wanted her to be pregnant, but Alexander didn't seem to be on the same page.
By three in the afternoon, Alexander and Victoria were back at Howard Villa.
Victoria, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced at her phone and then turned to Alexander, "I just saw Mom say in the group chat that your aunt is back?"
Victoria knew Alexander had an aunt, but she had never met her. She had heard that his aunt was abroad and hadn't been back in ages.
Alexander, focused on driving, just nodded.
The car went quiet for a bit, then Alexander chuckled, "What's up? Feeling shy?"
Victoria furrowed her brows and mumbled, "Why didn't you tell me earlier? I didn't get a gift."
Alexander said assuringly, "Don't worry. I got it covered."
She instinctively looked at the back seat but saw nothing.
Then Alexander's smooth voice chimed in again, "It's in the trunk."
Her bright almond eyes looked at his perfect profile, and she felt the urge to kiss him, so she did.
She leaned over and kissed his cheek, then said sweetly, "Thanks, honey."
The word "honey" made him shiver. She usually only called him that during sex.
Suppressing his desire, Alexander lowered his voice and teased, "Just a kiss on the cheek?"
Victoria glanced at him, her eyes accidentally falling on his crotch. Her pupils dilated slightly, and a mischievous glint appeared in her eyes.
Feigning ignorance, she asked, "Then what do you want?"
Alexander casually replied, "Think for yourself."
Moments later, Alexander regretted it. He grabbed her slender wrist and pulled it away from his waist.
Breathing heavily, Alexander croaked, "What are you doing?"
Victoria rolled her eyes and blurted out, "Didn't you tell me to think for myself? I was thinking of making you a suit as a thank you, so I was just measuring your waist."
Alexander said, "You could just ask me."
Victoria ignored his words and insisted on measuring by herself.
Muttering, she tried to free her hand, "I can measure with my arms. What you say might not be accurate. Trust me, my arms is more accurate than a tape measure." With that, she tried to reach out again.
Alexander, driving with one hand, still managed to stop her quickly. Her skin was delicate, and he didn't use much force, afraid of hurting her.
He coaxed softly, his voice hoarse, "Be good. I'll let you measure when we get home."
He couldn't resist her, and his proud self-control was nothing in front of her. He was driving and couldn't do anything to her.
But Victoria seemed determined to oppose him, "No, I want to measure now."
At Howard Villa.
As soon as the car stopped, Victoria quickly unbuckled her seatbelt, opened the door, and ran inside.
She bumped into Landon, who asked, "Victoria, why are you in such a hurry?"
Victoria ignored him and headed straight for Nathan's courtyard.
Landon muttered something, then turned around, only to be startled.
He clutched his chest, looking at Alexander who had appeared behind him without a sound, and exclaimed, "Heavens, your quiet steps make me jump. Are you doing it on purpose?"
Alexander gave him a cold, disdainful look, as if Landon was insignificant to him.
At this moment, Landon still had an impeccable sense of timing.
Alexander's face was stern, and his eyes were red.
Landon asked with concern, "Alexander, why are your eyes so red? Go get some medicine from Owen, so Victoria won't worry."
He genuinely cared about Alexander, but Alexander rolled his eyes and said, "So dumb, no wonder you don't even have a girlfriend!" Then he turned and walked away.
Landon looked sadly at Alexander's broad back. 'How am I dumb? I have a high IQ, okay? That's because I don't want a girlfriend!'
In Nathan's courtyard living room, Victoria hadn't even stepped inside when she heard the laughter of adults and the voices of children.
As soon as Victoria entered, Saskia noticed her.
"Victoria, you're here, come over," Saskia smiled and reached out to her, urging her to come in.
Victoria greeted each elder.
"Victoria, this is your aunt Cynthia." Saskia held her hand and introduced her.
Victoria looked at the capable yet elegant Cynthia and called out, "Auntie."
Cynthia responded softly, observing the poised and graceful, exquisitely beautiful Victoria. She indeed matched well with Alexander.
However, Cynthia felt that Victoria looked familiar, as if she had seen her somewhere before.
But Cynthia was sure this was the first time she had met Victoria.
Although she had heard of Victoria before, Cynthia had never met her in person.
Cynthia had been abroad in Aidamore for a long time and rarely came home. She returned this time due to special circumstances.
Victoria, in her hurry to get out of the car, had forgotten to bring the gift. Just as she was about to speak, Alexander's voice sounded behind her, "Victoria, why are you so rush? Didn't you say you wanted to give Auntie a gift?"
Cynthia, hearing about the gift, said to Victoria, "We're all family, no need to be so formal. I didn't have time to prepare a gift for you."
Alexander stepped forward, unbothered by who was present, and naturally wrapped his arm around Victoria's waist. He then called out to Cynthia, Auntie, you can wait until our wedding to prepare a gift."
Cynthia had heard about the wedding from Saskia before they returned. She smiled and said, "Alright."
Victoria suddenly felt a weight on her foot. Looking down, she saw a cute kid, only up to her knee, hugging her leg and staring up at her with a chubby, adorable face.
Seeing her look down at him, Alaric Borgia blinked his big eyes, looking extremely cute. Then, in a tender voice, he said, "Hug me."
This was the first time Alaric had actively asked to be hugged. Usually, he was afraid of strangers, which took Cynthia by surprise.
Victoria pried Alexander's hand off her waist, then bent down and picked him up.
Holding the soft Alaric in her arms was quite comfortable.
"What's your name?" Victoria asked gently, holding him with one hand and lightly pinching his chubby cheek with the other.
"My name is Alaric." Alaric's voice was soft and sweet, though his pronunciation was a bit off, it was clear what he was saying.
Alexander interjected, "She's my wife, your sister-in-law."
Alaric blinked and, as curiously as he always was, asked, "What's a sister-in-law? Is it for eating?"
Alexander shamelessly replied, "Yes, but only I can eat it, understand?"
Alaric nodded in confusion.
Victoria was speechless.
The corners of the others' mouths twitched slightly.
