Chapter 56 Clara Stirring Up Trouble Again
Meanwhile, at the Horizon Group, Victoria had just returned to her office after a meeting when Lenora walked in and said, "The front desk called ten minutes ago. Your dad and some others are here to see you."
Lenora knew about the last time Victoria had kicked her family out of the company but thought it best to report it anyway.
Victoria, unfazed, replied, "Alright, got it. Tell the receptionist I'm busy."
Seeing Victoria's attitude, Lenora quickly said, "Understood."
"Wait a minute," Victoria called out as Lenora turned to leave.
Lenora asked, "Anything else?"
Victoria looked up and said, "Tell him not to come for no reason. He should bring what I want."
"Got it."
Downstairs in the lobby, Simon, Elodie, and Clara were stopped by security at the door and had been waiting for over ten minutes.
This was the second time today they had been stopped by security.
Just as Simon was about to lose his temper, a receptionist in professional attire walked over.
With a standard professional smile, the receptionist calmly said, "Sorry, Victoria is very busy and can't see you."
Clara was shocked at Victoria's boldness since her return two years ago. Not only did she have security block them, but she also refused to see them.
Clara was furious inside but kept her cool. She knew this would only worsen Victoria's standing with Simon and the Kennedy family, which was exactly what she wanted.
Simon was so angry he couldn't speak, his face dark with rage.
The receptionist ignored this and added, "Victoria also said, 'Don't come for no reason. Be smart and give me what I want.'"
With that, the receptionist turned and left, leaving the three of them stunned.
Clara didn't understand Victoria's last message but knew now wasn't the time to ask.
In the end, Simon stormed off, fuming with unvented anger.
Back at the Kennedy family home, the sound of glass shattering echoed through the Kennedy family hall.
The household staff didn't dare approach.
Simon and the others had just told Oliver what happened, and Clara was good at stirring the pot.
"Grandpa Kennedy, don't be angry. Take care of your health. I think Victoria didn't do it on purpose. Maybe she was worried Mom and I would upset Grandma Davis, given her health," Clara said sweetly, playing the role of the considerate granddaughter.
But Oliver got even angrier, shouting, "I think she did it on purpose. What did you and your mother do wrong? It's Victoria who's arrogant and rebellious, always going against the Kennedy family!"
"You're too kind, always defending her. She's just ungrateful," Oliver scolded Clara, telling her not to defend Victoria in the future.
Clara looked embarrassed, "Grandpa Kennedy, I..."
"Enough!" Oliver cut her off, "I'll call her myself. I don't believe she would dare ignore my call!"
He seemed to have forgotten how he was kicked out last time.
Clara was thrilled with Oliver's attitude. She believed Victoria was trying to make Oliver and the others dislike her more, and Clara was happy to help that along.
Meanwhile, Victoria had just finished her work and was taking a break when her phone buzzed.
She opened Facebook and saw messages from Chloe Smith.
Chloe: [Vicky, I sent you some new chocolates.]
Chloe: [To your home, remember to pick them up, don't forget.]
Chloe: [Also, happy Halloween in advance, Vicky. I'll probably be busy tomorrow and might not have time to accompany you.]
Victoria's cold demeanor softened, and she smiled as she replied.
Victoria: [Okay, I'll pick them up after work.]
Victoria: [Happy Halloween.]
Chloe replied, telling her to take care, and then stopped messaging.
"Vicky" was a nickname only a few people knew. If she hadn't been sent abroad by the Kennedy family, she might never have met them. They hadn't seen each other since parting ways, but staying in touch was enough.
As she was thinking, her phone rang. She glanced at it; it was a number she knew well.
After a few seconds, she answered.
A furious voice came through, "Victoria, you really have guts. Why did you stop your father and the others from picking up your grandmother Kennedy? Are you trying to ruin the Kennedy family?"
Victoria rolled her eyes and replied lazily, "I've been bold for a long time. Got a problem with that?"
"Your grandmother Kennedy is a member of the Kennedy family. Your father has the right to bring her home. Why did you stop him?" Oliver fumed.
Victoria replied calmly, "Because Grandma doesn't want to go back!"
Her words left Oliver speechless.
When she returned to the Kennedy family after coming back from Stellaria, she found out Thalia had moved out. No one in the Kennedy family cared if she would adapt after leaving her home of many years.
Victoria brought Thalia to Harmonious Convalesce Court. Thalia didn't want to live with her, fearing she would be a burden, but Victoria didn't want her living alone, so she found the safest nursing home for Thalia, with Mia accompanying her, which put her at ease.
In the past two years, Thalia had never returned to the Kennedy family. She was thoroughly disappointed with them.
The men in the Kennedy family were all quite macho, and Oliver was no exception. He couldn't let go of his pride to reach out to Thalia.
"What? No more words?" Victoria could hear his rapid breathing, indicating his anger. But so what?
"Fine, if you won't talk, I will. I have something to say," she needed to resolve this quickly, "You all have always wanted the shares of the Kennedy Group in my hands. I can give them to you, but..."
