Chapter 471 Sorry, I Went the Wrong Way

Alexander's laugh was devastatingly charming.

Her heart fluttered.

"So you've finally remembered we have a wedding planned?" he teased.

The implication was clear: Why hadn't she thought about that before getting into a fight?

She pouted, her voice sweet and melodious as she deliberately nuzzled his ear. "I've always remembered. Things just... got complicated. You bit my ear again."

She'd noticed his habit—whenever he held her, he'd nibble her earlobe.

But she wasn't one to back down.

She retaliated with a bite of her own.

Alexander's body tensed, and he made an uncharacteristically vulnerable sound.

"Don't play with fire. You know I've been holding back the tide for quite some time.," he warned, his voice low and dangerous against her ear.

The arm around her slender waist tightened.

"What do you mean? I have no idea," she replied with feigned innocence.

Before she could say more, he gently pushed her back onto the bed.

Alexander gazed at her through half-lidded eyes. "No idea?" he murmured.

"I..." Her words were cut off as his warm lips captured hers.

His kissing technique had always been exceptional, and soon she melted beneath him.

Resting his forehead against hers, he looked at her flushed face. "Do you understand no?"

Victoria caught her breath and changed the subject. "Darling, do you dislike children?"

Alexander paused briefly. "Not really." he finally said.

"Then let's have a baby," she said. "Don't worry about my health—I'll be fine."

She caressed his cheek with her left hand. "I don't want us to have regrets. I want to have our child."

Alexander frowned slightly. "You know?"

"Yes, I know," she nodded.

Owen had told her—after she'd pressured him into it.

She'd promised to help resolve Lila's reluctance to marry, which convinced him to talk.

Whether she could actually solve that problem remained uncertain, but she'd agreed to try for the information she wanted.

She was shocked to learn Alexander had undergone a procedure to prevent her from getting pregnant. Learning his reasons moved her deeply, though she felt guilty too.

Fortunately, Owen had assured her the procedure was reversible.

She couldn't bear to be responsible for ending the Howard family line.

Besides, she understood her own medical condition. While pregnancy carried risks, it wasn't a guaranteed death sentence.

"From now on, discuss things with me first. Don't make these decisions alone," she said, her expression uncharacteristically serious.

He kissed her lips softly. "As you wish."

His eyes, deep and brilliant as diamonds, overflowed with desire, affection, and increasingly evident love.

The hospital room door suddenly opened.

Marcus rushed in, then immediately froze at the intimate scene.

"Mr. Howard, someone's here to see Mrs. Howard. Sorry, wrong timing," he said awkwardly.

He turned to leave with remarkable speed. He'd interrupted their intimate moment!

As he hurried away, Alexander's commanding voice stopped him, "Come back!"

Marcus's heart sank.

Would Alexander confront him now?

He slowly turned and approached again, keeping his eyes downcast to avoid seeing anything inappropriate.

"What is it?" Alexander asked.

Marcus quickly replied, "There's a Sophia outside asking for Mrs. Howard."

Sophia?

Why was she here? How did she know where to find her?

Victoria frowned, feeling a sense of foreboding.

"Send her in," she then said.

Moments later, Sophia entered.

Gone was her usual captivating demeanor. Instead, she appeared tense, her expression grave.

Seeing Alexander, she nodded politely.

Her first words to Victoria were: "Victoria, I think Ellington's in trouble."

Victoria frowned. "What happened? Explain."

"A day ago, I received a distress signal from him," Sophia said. "Since then, I haven't been able to contact him or any of his team members."

With the Foggy Forest terrain map Victoria had provided, they shouldn't have encountered major problems.

Unless Ellington had foolishly ignored the map—but he wasn't that careless.

The other possibility was that they'd been set up.

"Who exactly was he looking for?" Victoria asked, her brow furrowed.

Sophia didn't hide the truth. "Actually, he wasn't looking for a person. He was searching for something."

"What?" Victoria couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Has he lost his mind? That godforsaken Foggy Forest has nothing but skeletal remains."

She stopped mid-sentence, narrowing her eyes at Sophia as realization dawned.

Sophia confirmed her suspicion. "That's right. He went looking for Sloane Borgia's remains."

Victoria clicked her tongue. "Is he that bored? After all this time? It's like searching for a needle in a haystack."

Despite her complaints, she immediately asked Eugene to arrange a search party for Foggy Forest.

She'd thought Ellington had moved on, but apparently not.

"Let me handle this," Alexander interjected. "I'll have Gideon make the arrangements."

She looked at him for a moment before nodding. "All right."

Alexander stepped aside to make a phone call.

In her rush to explain about Ellington, Sophia hadn't yet asked about Victoria's injury, though she'd already heard what happened.

"You really do have a talent for getting injured," Sophia remarked dryly.
