Chapter 257 Address
Victoria shot Owen a questioning look. "Wait, where did you say Lila went again?"
Owen, keeping his cool, replied, "She went to pick up Marlowe. Caspian asked her to."
Victoria's eyes narrowed, suspicion creeping in. 'What's Caspian up to now?'
Grant brought Michelle, and Caspian had Lila fetch Marlowe. How interesting it would be!
In the lounge, Grant's eyes locked onto Marlowe as she walked in. His brows furrowed slightly, but he kept his cool, watching her every move.
Marlowe, on the other hand, didn't even glance his way.
Michelle was taken aback when she saw Marlowe.
Marlowe wasn't dressed up for the occasion. She wore her usual getup: a long white coat, a knitted sweater, caramel-colored flared pants, flat white shoes, and a black shoulder bag. Her hair was casually tied back, giving off a fresh yet elegant vibe.
She hadn't planned on attending the banquet; she just came to see Caspian. Comfort over style, clearly.
Compared to Michelle's formal attire, Marlowe looked more laid-back, more like family.
Caspian's eyes lit up when he saw her, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Marlowe, you're here."
Marlowe walked straight to Caspian and said softly, "Grandpa Scott, long time no see. Happy birthday! Wishing you health, longevity, and happiness. And remember, less greasy food, more fruits and veggies."
Marlowe calling him "Grandpa Scott" made everyone pause. She was married to Grant, so she might call him "Dad," right? What was going on?
Grant's face darkened immediately.
Marlowe was about the same age as Lila. If she and Grant weren't married, "Grandpa Scott" would be more appropriate.
Caspian was momentarily stunned but quickly resumed his warm smile, eyes full of affection. "It's been a while. It's very thoughtful of you to keep my bad habits in mind."
Caspian's fondness for Marlowe was clear, making Michelle's eyes flash with jealousy.
Marlowe smiled lightly, teasing, "Grandpa Scott, if you know they're bad habits, why haven't you quit them? You promised me before. Lila told me everything."
Lila chimed in, "Exactly, my grandpa is so stubborn. No matter what we say, he won't quit. My mom said he only behaved when you were around, but after you left, he went back to his old ways."
Eve, sitting on the couch, added, "Stubborn old man? That's your grandpa!"
Lila stuck her tongue out at Eve and then fell silent.
Caspian didn't mind. He had many children and grandchildren and just wanted a harmonious family. And they were, with no open or hidden conflicts, each excelling in their own fields.
But the one he worried about the most was Grant.
Soon, Marlowe started chatting with Caspian.
Others occasionally joined in, except for Grant and Michelle, who were completely ignored by the family.
Michelle felt extremely awkward standing there. She glanced at Grant, whose handsome face was now covered in frost.
Grant never expected to be so thoroughly ignored by his family because of Marlowe, as if he were the outsider.
What surprised him most was how much Caspian liked Marlowe. But he didn't understand why.
When he was with Abigail, Caspian didn't show much affection for her, even though Abigail and Marlowe were sisters.
The conversation halted until Lila's father, Elijah, came in and said it was time.
"Marlowe, I know you probably don't want to attend the banquet, so you can hang out with Lila for a while. I'll talk to you after I'm done," Caspian said thoughtfully.
Facing such a kind and loving Caspian, she couldn't refuse and nodded. "Okay."
Marlowe had planned to leave as soon as the banquet started, but now she couldn't.
"Grandpa, don't worry. I'll take good care of Marlowe," Lila immediately responded.
As Caspian got up to leave, he gave Grant a sharp and meaningful look, saying, "You, come with me!"
Grant remained silent. He felt particularly depressed and annoyed.
Marlowe called Caspian "Grandpa Scott," and Caspian actually accepted it. Caspian knew their relationship, but it was clearly to irritate Grant.
Who could tolerate their wife calling their father "Grandpa"?
But Grant couldn't say anything at the moment.
