Chapter 399 Losing Support
Sarah felt that if Victoria didn't come out soon, she would left awkwardly standing there.
She had never been alone with Alexander before.
Moreover, she could clearly sense that he had some hostility towards her.
She always trusted her intuition.
Why the hostility?
She wasn't a man.
At that moment, there was some movement at the entrance of the Hughes Mansion, and she keenly noticed Victoria's figure coming out.
"Baby, you're out." She quickly grabbed Victoria's arm before Alexander could.
Alexander stopped in his tracks.
Dylan and Quentin exchanged glances but didn't dare to say anything.
She tactfully didn't ask Victoria what she had been doing inside, but instead pouted and said, "Baby, if you didn't come out soon, I would have frozen into a popsicle."
"What?" Victoria raised an eyebrow, tilting her head slightly in confusion as she looked at Sarah, who was leaning on her shoulder.
The weather was just a bit chilly, but not enough to freeze into a popsicle, right?
Following Sarah's gaze, she understood what Sarah meant.
"Alright, I'll take you back first." Victoria asked, "To the apartment or the set?"
Sarah wasn't a pretentious person, and she wasn't hurt. She still had scenes to shoot today, so she definitely wanted to go back to the set.
She said, "To the set; staying at home is boring."
"Dear, please take Sarah to the set first." Victoria looked at the silent Alexander and smiled.
He could never refuse her requests, nor did he want to.
Even though he was jealous of Sarah at that moment, he couldn't say anything.
After safely taking Sarah back to the set, Victoria gave Nancy a few instructions before getting back into the car.
Once they were alone in the car, Victoria focused all her attention on Alexander, who was driving.
He didn't say a word, and his handsome face showed no expression.
Meanwhile, at the Hughes family.
After Victoria left.
"I really didn't know Sarah and Victoria knew each other." After Victoria left, Julia sat on the ground, looking aggrieved and flustered.
Algernon had been in charge of the Hughes family for so long, if he couldn't see through this, he might as well step down.
Julia's evasive eyes indicated she was lying.
Algernon, who had just been kind, now wore a stern expression.
"Julia, don't think I don't know about your little schemes!" Algernon scolded, "You're still dreaming of overthrowing Victoria and suppressing her. Are you out of your mind or are you deliberately trying to put the Hughes family in trouble?"
"Don't you know her current status? She's not just Alexander's wife; she holds various positions in different fields. Do you think you can compete with someone like that?"
"Don't overestimate your abilities. She's right, without the Hughes family, you wouldn't achieve anything!"
Julia was stunned by his scolding.
Soren had long stopped managing the Hughes family's affairs, leaving all the decision-making to his eldest son, Algernon.
Seeing today's scene, Soren felt troubled and left early.
Julia's mother, Hannah Nguyen, and her father, Cade Hughes, hadn't even had a chance to plead before Soren left.
"Algernon, Julia is still young." Hannah, naturally protective of her only daughter, said, "And this marriage alliance isn't something we want. Algernon, you know the Astor family's son is a fool. How can Julia marry him? Algernon, Claire, you've watched Julia grow up. Can you bear to see her marry a fool for life?"
Algernon frowned but didn't say anything. Then, the usually gentle and soft-spoken Claire stood up from her chair, looking angrily at Hannah. "Hannah, you can't say that. If Julia doesn't want to marry, does that mean my daughter has to? That's so unfair!"
Hannah didn't expect the usually gentle Claire to suddenly get angry, her words filled with sarcasm and coldness.
Not just her, everyone present was surprised.
Since marrying Algernon, Claire had always been gentle, dignified, and never lost her temper.
With Algernon's support, she never appeared arrogant. Instead, she assisted him in managing the household affairs of the Hughes family efficiently, allowing Algernon to focus on the company without worrying about home matters.
This made Claire very much loved by Algernon.
"Claire, I..." Hannah was startled by her anger.
Julia didn't expect Claire, who always doted on her, to not stand by her side this time.
Claire was angry, not just because of Hannah's words, but also because no one had discussed today's matter with her.
"Julia, I used to think you were a kind-hearted child, but I was wrong." She looked at Julia with disappointment.
Julia's heart sank. Her good treatment in the Hughes family was largely due to Claire's affection.
If Claire stopped doting on her, she would lose major support.
"No, Claire, I..." She tried to reach for Claire's hand, but Claire stepped back, avoiding her touch.
Finally, Claire glanced at Algernon, her eyes filled with disappointment.
Algernon felt a pang of anxiety meeting her unfamiliar gaze.
Claire's eyes welled with tears, her face pale. She said, "I never said such things. Why would you do this to me?"
Algernon knew exactly what she meant.
The words he had said to Sarah earlier, "She never liked you, even despised you," were his own fabrication.
Claire never expected that one day, her beloved husband would treat her this way.
Making her lose all trust in front of her daughter.
Years ago, she wanted to take Sarah away, but she hadn't yet established herself in the Hughes family. Taking her would only bring her suffering, so she left her in the countryside.
When the time was right, she went back to get her, but Sarah had already left the village, and no one knew where she went.
The Saunders family was gone, and Sterling had passed away.
It wasn't until she saw Sarah on TV one day, recognizing the familiar birthmark, a small mole by her eye, that she confirmed Sarah was her daughter.
Without looking at anyone else, Claire turned and left the hall.
