Chapter 390 Honesty Isn't Welcome?
Landon had just returned to Howard Villa and headed straight for Nathan's yard.
Usually, at this time, Nathan would be watering his plants in the yard, but today he was nowhere to be seen.
He looked up at the clear sky, thinking it hadn't rained.
Without much thought, he went into the hall and headed straight for the second floor.
He had something important to discuss with Nathan. "Grandpa, I'm back."
He didn't even knock, just pushed open Nathan's door and was stunned by what he saw inside.
Nathan was sitting on the bed with his legs crossed, looking energetic, holding a plate of fruit and eating it with relish. But why did Nathan have a cast on his leg?
"Grandpa, what happened to you?" Landon walked in quickly, curiously staring at Nathan's leg, then looked up at Nathan and sincerely asked, "Why are you wearing a cast on your leg for fun?"
Nathan said, "How are you talking? Are you blind? Can't you see my leg is injured?"
Landon, who always spoke without thinking, looked at Nathan's face and said, "You look so rosy and energetic; you don't look like someone with a leg injury. If it's not for fun, what is it? Besides, if you were really injured, how could my mom not call me?"
He hadn't received a single call or even a message.
This wasn't normal.
Butler Micah, listening to him ramble on, was worried for Nathan. Luckily, Alexander and Victoria weren't there.
Landon always spoke recklessly and dared to say anything to anyone's face.
Nathan was so angry at Landon that he was panting.
"Landon, shut up. If Alexander and Victoria hear this, I'll have your dad give you a beating!" Nathan glared at him with a serious and threatening tone.
Landon gulped at the glare.
Before he could ask what had happened and why Nathan was pretending to be sick, Nathan said disdainfully, "Why did you come back? You're just here to annoy me! It would have been better if you hadn't come back!"
He even gave Landon a disdainful look after saying that.
Landon was silent. Honesty wasn't welcome?
If it weren't for the fact that he looked a bit like Alexander, he would have suspected he was adopted.
At this moment, at Master Deer Call Courtyard.
"Dear, why do you think your grandpa is pretending to have a leg injury?" Victoria was puzzled.
Both of them had seen through Nathan's fake leg injury. It wasn't that Nathan's acting was bad, but the family's behavior was too unusual.
They forgot that this couple wasn't simple-minded; their keen observation skills stood out from those of ordinary people.
As long as there was a hint of something unusual, they could detect it, especially with their familiar family members.
"Let's stay and see," Alexander didn't delve into the reason.
He asked Victoria, "Weren't you supposed to go back to the research institute today?"
The Global Health Innovations Institute's branch in Rihegde had just been inaugurated yesterday and started operations today, with staff gradually arriving at their posts.
But the institute's director was temporarily acting as her, as the newly appointed director hadn't arrived yet, so she was forced to.
"Yes, I was supposed to go back," she said. "I just came home to get the documents I forgot this morning, and before I could get them, I got a call from Micah and came here."
"You're skipping work on your first day as acting director. That's quite a statement," Alexander teased with a hint of humor.
She raised an eyebrow, looked at him, her eyes sparkling, her red lips slightly curved, exuding confidence.
"I don't need to make a statement. I conquer them with my abilities, so even if I skip work, no one dares to say anything."
Alexander looked at her with a smile in his eyes, reached out, and pinched her cheek.
He liked her confidence.
He praised her without hesitation. "Yes, you're so excellent that I feel useless."
Victoria chuckled softly at his words.
She leaned half her body on his chest, looking at him, holding his handsome face that made hearts race. "Who said you're useless?"
"What?" Alexander asked.
She smiled and said, "You can make me happy. Without you, I wouldn't be happy. No matter how excellent I am, I would feel like a zombie." After saying that, she didn't give him a chance to speak, holding his face and kissing him.
Alexander paused for a moment, then gazed into her smiling eyes. He then reached out and pulled her by the waist, guiding her to sit on his lap. One hand pressed the back of her head while the other gently stroked her back. Her hands found their way to his shoulders.
The hall was filled with a sense of intimacy and the sound of their breathing
Her eyes seemed to hold light, radiating brilliance, the stars and the sea, and more importantly, genuine affection and dependence on him.
"Alexander, Victoria, I..." Landon hadn't even stepped into the hall of Master Deer Call Courtyard when he shouted.
Then, as he stepped in, he saw the scene on the living room sofa. Landon instantly felt extremely awkward, thinking, 'Why does he always have to see scenes like this!'
The couple on the sofa, Alexander and Victoria, were interrupted by the sudden noise and stopped.
Fortunately, they weren't doing anything too excessive, just kissing.
But to Landon, even kissing seemed very passionate. He feared that if he had come a few seconds later, he would have seen something more explicit.
"Landon!" Just as he was about to turn and leave, a cold voice stopped him.
"Alexander, what's wrong?" His heart tightened as he forced a smile. Then, Alexander and Victoria stared at him coldly.
Landon was truly unlucky!
"I told you to go to work, but you only work one day and take two days off. This time you just disappeared!" Alexander said sternly, narrowing his deep eyes. "It seems I've been too lenient with you!"
Landon panicked even more at this, thinking it was over.
"It's not like that, Alexander. I can explain," he hurried to explain.
"I had a reason, and besides, I told you, I'm not suited for working at the company." He scowled, his chiseled features contorting, his brows almost meeting.
"What? You think you're justified?" Alexander's voice deepened, almost shouting.
Landon shivered and hunched his shoulders, a chill running down his spine.
Alexander was scary.
He suspected Alexander was using this as an excuse to vent his anger from earlier.
He had been at the company for almost two weeks, and Alexander hadn't bothered him. If Alexander really wanted to discipline him, he would have done it long ago.
