Chapter 111 Victoria is Being Followed
"Hey, babe, I've got a roadshow coming up in a few days that'll pass through Stellaria. I want to see you," Sarah said.
Victoria listened to Sarah Saunders on the phone, her usually composed face softening.
"Sure. How've you been feeling? Any discomfort? If work's too much, take a break, okay? Have Natalie lighten your schedule," Victoria said, sounding like a concerned mom.
Sarah was used to it. "I'm fine, don't worry."
After a quick chat, Sarah's assistant called her away.
Victoria then made another call.
The other person picked up quickly. "Vicky, what's up?"
"How's Sarah's health lately?" Victoria asked.
"She had a check-up last week, and she's fine. As long as she takes her meds, exercises, and watches her diet and rest, she should be good," the person replied.
Victoria felt relieved. "She said she's coming over in a few days. Will you be with her?"
"No, she won't let me. But don't worry, with Natalie Anderson around, she'll be fine," the person said.
"Alright," Victoria said.
"You take care too. Don't get hurt, okay?" the person added.
"I know," Victoria nodded.
After work, Lila and Victoria went shopping for Marlowe's birthday gift, which they'd give him the day after tomorrow, then headed home.
As Victoria's car left the underground garage of Infinity Mall and passed an intersection, she noticed someone tailing her.
Friend or foe, she wasn't sure.
In less than five minutes, she lost the tail in the busy traffic and drove straight to Serenity Grove Manor.
A black car stopped by the roadside. The people inside looked confused after losing her.
The buzz-cut man in the passenger seat cursed, "Lost her. Victoria must've noticed!" He then slapped the driver on the head. "Idiot, how could you lose her!"
"So... what now?" the driver stammered.
"What else? Report to the boss!" the buzz-cut man shouted.
At Serenity Grove Manor, Ignatius was waiting outside the courtyard.
Seeing her return, he immediately approached.
"Getting used to it here?" Victoria asked gently.
Ignatius nodded and smiled. "I finished all the tasks you gave me this morning."
Victoria praised him, "Good job, Ignatius. I'm proud of your discipline."
The main building was usually empty except for morning cleaning, with only Sawyer and Molly around. Ignatius was adapting well, as Sawyer and Molly treated him kindly, making him feel less scared.
After dinner, Victoria had Kimberly take her and Ignatius on a tour of Serenity Grove Manor.
Kimberly gave a general intro to the manor's design.
Besides the main building, the manor had four sections: east, south, west, and north. The east housed the servants; the south was for Alexander's assistants and bodyguards; the west was a restricted training ground; and the north was Caesar's territory.
They headed north.
Soon, they saw an iron cage in the distance.
Caesar's white, agile figure was darting around the grassy area like a playful child.
It was Ignatius's first time seeing a real tiger. Though Victoria had told him about it, he was still a bit scared.
When Caesar saw Victoria, it ran to her and lay at her feet, rubbing its head against her pants.
It wanted to pounce on her, but it was too heavy.
Victoria bent down and rubbed its head.
At that moment, Matthew walked over and greeted, "Mrs. Howard."
Victoria responded briefly and asked, "Does it stay here all the time?"
Matthew pointed to the forest behind him. "Yes, and sometimes it goes for a walk in the forest behind."
Victoria was surprised. "It can go out?"
"Don't worry, the forest behind the manor belongs to Mr. Howard, and there are safety measures in place. Caesar knows its limits and won't cross the boundary," Matthew explained.
The forest belonged to Alexander. He was indeed wealthy!
