Chapter 283 "Aren't you the one who knows best?"
Marlowe had been hanging out at Meadowview Villa, Villa No. 3, waiting for Lila and Victoria since the crack of dawn. When she heard a car pull up outside, she jumped up to open the door.
Lila and Victoria stepped out of the car, and Marlowe's face lit up. She'd been bored out of her mind.
Inside the living room, Lila took a look around and thought, 'Wow, this place is huge.'
Marlowe felt a bit awkward around Victoria. She always seemed to be leaning on her for help—first the apartment, now a whole villa.
Victoria, sensing her discomfort, said, "Just chill, Marlowe. Focus on having a happy and healthy delivery."
Victoria might come off as distant, but she was actually super thoughtful and knew how to talk to Marlowe in a way that made her feel comfortable.
Lila, eyeing Marlowe's belly, joked, "I'm not as generous as Victoria. Once the baby's here, I'll take you out for all the yummy food you can eat."
They chatted about the baby for a bit. Marlowe had definitely changed lately, looking more and more like a mom-to-be.
Suddenly, Lila remembered something. "Marlowe, have you thought about my idea from last time?"
Marlowe looked puzzled. "What idea?"
Victoria smirked, having a pretty good guess.
Lila got serious. "Set up a situation for Grant to cheat, get the evidence, and use it to win the divorce."
Marlowe's jaw dropped. "I thought you were kidding. You can't be serious, right?"
Honestly, Marlowe wanted to divorce Grant ASAP, but she never thought of going that far.
Lila raised an eyebrow. "Do I look like I'm joking?"
Marlowe and Victoria exchanged glances, then turned to Lila and nodded in unison.
Victoria didn't hold back. "Yeah, you totally do."
Marlowe was more diplomatic. "That plan seems a bit far-fetched."
Lila looked at them, confused. "So, what's your plan then?"
She added, "But I gotta say, I didn't expect Grant to be so disciplined. That's rare."
Marlowe, unexpectedly, defended Grant. "In truth, aside from being somewhat aloof and lacking affection for me, he's rather commendable."
Otherwise, she wouldn't have fallen for him in the first place.
Despite his coldness and hatred, Grant was quite the catch—handsome, rich, and powerful.
Lila frowned. "But that doesn't add up. What's the deal with him and Michelle? Aren't they a thing?"
The mention of Michelle reminded Marlowe that she had asked Nancy to dig into Michelle and Grant a few days ago.
Marlowe hoped to use their relationship as leverage for the divorce, but it turned out they were just friends.
She found out that Grant had carried Michelle into the hospital because she had taken a knife for him. Of course, he had to take her to the hospital.
As for why Grant brought Michelle to Caspian's birthday party, Marlowe had no clue.
Philip had said that this evidence wouldn't hold up in court.
After explaining all this, Marlowe sighed. "I actually wish they were really dating."
Lila and Victoria went quiet for a moment.
Grant would never have guessed that both Lila and Marlowe were hoping he'd cheat.
It was a dead end, no matter how they looked at it.
Meanwhile, Alexander had just left the conference room at Vertex Holdings Group.
Marcus walked up and said, "Mr. Howard, Grant's here, waiting in your office."
Alexander raised an eyebrow. Grant rarely showed up at his company. Was he here to ask for a favor?
As he entered the office, Alexander quipped, "Here to invite me to lunch?"
Grant sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, exuding an air of carefree insolence. However, his face was remarkably somber, and his gaze was imbued with an intense coldness.
Alexander ignored the mood, walked over to his desk, sat down, and gave Grant a faint smile.
"If I invited you to lunch, would you dare to eat it?" Grant said through gritted teeth, squinting his eyes.
Alexander, crossing his legs and interlacing his fingers, asked nonchalantly, "What, still haven't found Marlowe?"
Grant pressed his lips together and shot back, "What, aren't you the one who knows best?"
Alexander replied calmly, "You know, I'm only interested in Victoria."
The implication was clear: he had no interest in Marlowe's affairs.
Grant snapped, "I don't know!"
The office fell into a long silence until Grant spoke again, a look of schadenfreude on his face.
He smirked, his eyes filled with a mocking gleam. "Aren't you curious about who Victoria went to see in Seattle?"
Alexander raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing slightly as he glanced at Grant, not immediately answering.
A week ago, on the day Victoria was hospitalized, Kimberly had mentioned Victoria had just returned from Seattle, but he hadn't asked who she had met.
Alexander then slowly replied, "In a marriage, trust is essential. You need to comfort and cherish your wife."
Grant squinted, listening as Alexander continued, "Instead of constantly wearing a stern expression and commanding her every move, that's not the proper way to treat a wife. Anyone with eyes and a functioning brain wouldn't marry someone like that."
"Of course, there are those who are blind and have issues with their brains. But a marriage without a foundation of love will eventually break apart. It's better to divorce early, right, Grant?"
Alexander was indirectly advising him to sign the divorce papers.
Grant got the message loud and clear but chose not to respond directly. Instead, he sneered and said, "I had underestimated Victoria's capabilities. She has so many identities, and I didn't expect her to be connected to Ellington."
The other day, he got wind that Ellington was secretly looking for a mysterious organization, which he happened to know about.
It was the 103 Organization, a group of ruthless lunatics.
All of this started happening after Victoria appeared in Seattle.
Grant had been watching Alexander. Alexander was a master at hiding his emotions. Being friends for so many years, Grant understood Alexander well.
But no matter how well Alexander hid it, he would never ignore anything related to Victoria.
Moreover, this could potentially concern Victoria's very life, entangling with Ellington and the 103 organization was no trivial matter.
"There's something you would never guess or find out," Grant continued to tempt him. "But we can make a deal."
Alexander pressed his thin lips together, his deep eyes filled with an inscrutable light, lost in thought.
