Chapter 240 You're Asking Me about Your Wife?

Marlowe dragged herself back to the apartment, jumped in the shower, rubbed in some ointment, put some ice on her face, and then flopped onto her bed.

She was wiped out, but sleep just wouldn't come.

It wasn't her body that was tired, it was her mind. She felt like she was drowning, suffocating under the weight of everything.

The bed still had Grant's faint tobacco smell. It wasn't strong, kinda fresh actually. But right now, it felt like a knife twisting in her heart.

Today's mess, even though it was just a misunderstanding, left Marlowe feeling all sorts of messed up—sad, scared, and pissed off. She wished she had someone to lean on, but she was on her own.

Not only that, but she had to keep up this tough act.

Marlowe knew she could get all emotional sometimes, but she felt like she didn't have the right to be, so she shoved those feelings down.

Thinking about it all made her nose sting, her throat tighten, and her heart feel like it was in a vise.

Tears streamed down her face, soaking one side of the pillow, and eventually, she cried herself to sleep.

Meanwhile, Alexander's phone buzzed in the car.

He glanced at it and saw Grant's name. Victoria, sitting next to him, noticed too.

"Not gonna answer?" Victoria asked, seeing him hesitate.

Alexander looked at her, blinked, and asked quietly, "Can I?"

Victoria paused, then laughed. "Go ahead, I'm not a monster."

Alexander checked the traffic in the rearview mirror, then picked up the phone and hit the speaker button.

Grant's cold voice filled the car, cutting straight to the chase. "Why was she in the hospital?"

His tone was icy, steady, and bossy, like a robot.

Alexander scoffed and didn't answer right away.

After a beat, Alexander shot back in the same cold tone, but with a hint of sass. "I thought you were too busy rushing into the elevator with that woman to notice us. Guess you did see us."

Grant's face darkened. He hadn't seen them; Kevin had.

Victoria tilted her head, glanced at Alexander, and gave him a silent thumbs-up.

"Cut the crap!" Grant snapped, "Alexander, when did you get so snarky?"

Victoria was a bit surprised. First time she'd heard Grant curse.

Alexander didn't flinch and replied calmly, "She's your wife, not mine. You're asking me about your wife? Seriously?"

Grant was speechless. He shouldn't have made this call!

The next second, Alexander hung up, casually put down the phone, and asked, "Feel better?"

Victoria was quiet for a moment. "You decided to curse Grant; it has nothing to do with me."

Alexander grinned, not bothered. "You're pretty good at burning bridges. Looked like you wanted to stand up for Marlowe just now."

On the other side, Kevin saw Grant's face getting darker and shivered. 'What happened? Something serious with Mrs. Scott?'

Before Kevin could figure it out, Grant's icy voice cut through. "Go, find out what happened to her."

Kevin turned and left. "Got it."

Grant sat there, radiating a cold vibe that kept everyone away.

Michelle's agent and assistant stood nearby, too scared to say a word.

But they all thought the same thing: Grant actually had a wife.

Half an hour later, Kevin came back and spilled everything he found out.

Grant's face got even darker.

Kevin hadn't expected such a ridiculous misunderstanding.

Without a word, Grant got up and left.

Kevin quickly caught up.

Grant asked coldly, "Where is she now?"

Kevin replied, "Mrs. Scott went back to the apartment."

Kevin didn't quite get what was up with Grant.

Was Grant worried about Marlowe?
