Chapter 34 Talking About the Wedding

Saskia's voice cut through the air.

Victoria turned to see an elegant woman in a dress walk in with a middle-aged man in a suit.

The woman looked dignified and graceful, while the man, tall and refined, bore a striking resemblance to Alexander, especially with those captivating eyes.

Even though he was middle-aged, you could tell he was quite handsome in his youth.

With genes like that, no wonder Alexander turned out so good-looking.

These were definitely Alexander's parents.

"Dad, Mom!" Alexander called out.

Victoria hadn't had a chance to greet them yet.

Saskia, looking annoyed, said, "Alexander, I carried you for ten months and raised you, but I can't even get a meal you cooked?"

Saskia immediately started scolding.

Victoria felt awkward. The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship was always tricky, often the biggest challenge in a marriage.

And Saskia seemed pretty strong-willed.

Alexander's eyes showed helplessness as he calmly said, "If you want to eat, ask Dad to cook for you."

Preston felt helpless. He couldn't cook.

Saskia snapped, "I am your mother!"

"That doesn't matter!" Alexander replied coolly.

The message was clear: his wife came first.

Saskia was speechless.

The Howard men were known for doting on their wives. Preston doted on Saskia, and now Alexander was no different.

Alexander inherited all the best traits, especially in cherishing his wife.

Victoria didn't know how to step in. She gently tugged on Alexander's hand, signaling him to stop.

Saskia turned to Preston with a cold face and complained, "I've been married to you for twenty-nine years, and you've never cooked for me!"

Preston looked innocent and a bit troubled.

Then, Preston wrapped his arm around Saskia's shoulder and said gently, "Alright, I'll learn to cook when we get back and make you a meal, if you dare to eat it."

Saskia's expression softened a bit.

Victoria was surprised by this scene.

So Alexander's gentleness was inherited?

They didn't know Alexander could cook. If she had known, she wouldn't have said that, causing so much trouble.

Just as she was thinking about how to ease the awkwardness, Saskia suddenly grabbed her other hand and said gently, "Victoria, did I scare you just now?"

Victoria blinked and shook her head, saying, "Aunt Saskia, no."

Saskia immediately retorted, "Just call me Mom."

Victoria thought for a few seconds and called out, "Mom."

She hadn't said that in years, and it felt a bit emotional.

Saskia said happily, "You know, I wasn't targeting you just now. I just felt Alexander was ungrateful. I gave birth to him and raised him, but he wouldn't even cook a meal for me."

She glared at Alexander.

Then she looked at Victoria and softened, "I really wasn't targeting you. From now on, let Alexander cook for you every day. That's the only thing he's good for."

Victoria was surprised by Saskia's sudden change. She had overthought it.

Alexander, looking indifferent, watched and listened as if it had nothing to do with him.

Victoria handed out gifts to Nathan, Preston, and Saskia.

Then they started dinner. Alexander's brother was still abroad and couldn't make it.

During the meal, Victoria realized why Alexander's table manners were so strict. It wasn't just early training but also the influence of his family.

The Howard elders were very pleased with Victoria. She balanced humility and grace perfectly, fitting right in with their standards.

Despite coming from the Kennedy family, known for its ruthless pursuit of profit, she remained steadfast, which made the elders like her even more.

After dinner, Saskia kept Victoria close, chatting non-stop. From Alexander's childhood to adulthood, Victoria learned that Alexander was a lively, cheerful boy who loved to laugh before he turned ten. But as the eldest son of the Howard family, he had to bear the family's future. Hence, he forced himself to become cold, though his heart remained warm.

Victoria understood this deeply.

Every child in a wealthy family had their burdens.

The Kennedy family, an ordinary wealthy family, would go to any lengths for profit, let alone the Howard family, a century-old family with many branches.

Alexander had no idea what they were talking about. He only knew that his wife was being monopolized by his mother, and he was a bit unhappy.

He responded casually to Preston and Nathan, his mind elsewhere.

It was Preston and Nathan's first time seeing Alexander unhappy because his wife was chatting with his mother.

"It seems your marriage was the right choice," Nathan said meaningfully.

"I think so." Preston agreed.

Alexander narrowed his eyes but said nothing.

Preston looked at him and asked, "When do you plan to have the wedding?"

Alexander thought for a moment and calmly said, "Wait a bit. I have my plans."

Preston was pleased that Alexander was considering others. Alexander was perfect but suppressed himself too much.

"Alright, do as you see fit. If you need any help, just say so," Preston said.

"Thank you, Dad."

He had plans for the wedding, but not now. It wasn't the right time yet.

Nathan nodded in agreement, "Even though you're already married, you can't skip the wedding. Victoria shouldn't be wronged. Plan it well, and feel free to ask for help with anything you need."

Although they all knew that with Alexander's current capabilities, he didn't need any help. They still offered. After all, this was the wedding of the Howard family's eldest son and couldn't be taken lightly.

On the other side, Saskia asked Victoria the same question.

Victoria hadn't even thought about having a wedding.

So she couldn't answer Saskia's question right away.

Saskia looked at her finger and said discontentedly, "He didn't even buy you a ring?"

Victoria glanced at her empty finger and immediately explained, "No, Mom, it's just that we got together so suddenly and haven't had the chance. There's no rush."

In her heart, she still felt a bit unreal, so she didn't have high hopes for a wedding or a ring.

Saskia observed Victoria for a while without showing any emotion. It seemed Alexander still had a long way to go.

'Alexander, just becoming legal spouses with Victoria isn't enough. Let me help you out.' Saskia thought.

"Victoria, did Alexander ever tell you that I knew your mother?"
