Chapter 321 One Slip of My Hand, and Your Waist Is Done For
Luke sneered, "You really think the Kennedy family would stick their necks out for you? Your husband’s just some nobody from the Howard family. You seriously think he'd take on us black market folks? How funny."
Victoria's brow furrowed. She thought, 'So they are black market people, which means Christopher didn't use his own men.'
After Luke finished, Victoria chuckled coldly. So they didn't know Alexander was her husband. She had assumed they knew and still had the nerve to threaten her. Bold move.
Luke calling Alexander a minor branch of the Howard family was a surprise. Clearly, Christopher hadn’t filled his goons in on the real deal.
"Wow, not just cowards, but dumb cowards," Victoria smirked.
Luke couldn’t stand Victoria’s taunts. Behind him, Leroy and Eric were sneaking closer while Victoria kept them distracted.
"Bring her over!" Luke barked.
"Luke, let me handle this," one of the men said.
Luke snapped, "Shut up. You think a woman can hurt me?"
The guy went quiet, thinking, 'True, she's pretty, but just an ordinary woman. She can't really fight back. And Luke is a martial arts expert.'
Victoria stood still, eyes on the two figures moving fast ahead. Luke started walking towards her with Thalia. Thalia led, Luke close behind. As they neared, Luke made Thalia stop and pointed at Victoria menacingly.
"You two move at the same time. She comes over, you go over," Luke ordered.
Victoria didn't budge. "Since we're all here, can't we chat a bit? What's it gonna cost you? Look at you, all muscles. Do I, a weak woman, and an old lady stand a chance?"
She glanced at the group opposite. "Even if I run, can I outrun you with the old lady?"
Luke was stumped. He wasn’t good with words. Victoria looked at Thalia. Thalia met her gaze, and it seemed they were on the same page. Thalia didn’t wait for Luke's permission and walked towards Victoria.
Luke was speechless. First time dealing with such a defiant hostage. They just ignored him.
Victoria took a few steps forward and supported Thalia. "Grandma, you okay?" she asked.
Thalia, who had surgery before and was in poor health, shook her head. "I’m fine."
"Grandma," Victoria said softly, "Someone will get you out later. Don’t worry about me." Thalia blinked knowingly.
Seeing them whisper, Luke shouted, "Are you done talking?"
Victoria shielded Thalia, patted her hand, and made her step back. Then she faced Luke, calm and composed, something most ordinary women could rarely achieve.
Normally, someone would be terrified, scared, pale, maybe even unable to walk. But Victoria, facing enemies, rarely lost her cool. She shrugged. "Alright, let’s go."
Luke felt a chill at Victoria’s smile. She seemed too relaxed, not like someone worried about being a hostage. He wondered, 'Does Victoria know that we were sent to take her life?'
"Victoria, walk in front!" Luke ordered.
Victoria didn’t mind and walked over, standing beside him. She didn’t move immediately but suddenly looked at Luke and asked, "Does Ellington know you're targeting me?"
Luke was taken aback. She actually had the nerve to call their boss by name.
Victoria narrowed her eyes, clicked her tongue, and said sarcastically, "Didn't expect Ellington's crew to be all muscle, no brains."
Luke was momentarily thrown off by her words and was about to tell her to shut up when he felt something pressing against his waist. Just as he was about to react, he heard her cold voice. "I wouldn't move if I were you. One slip, and bang, you're done."
Luke quickly glanced down and saw a small golden handgun pressed against him. A Desert Eagle. He thought, 'No way, how could she have a gun, and a golden Desert Eagle at that?'
Victoria saw the doubt in his eyes. "You don't have to believe me," she said. "You can try your luck if you want."
Her red lips curved into a sly, wicked smile, and her eyes were icy cold. "My gun hasn't been used in a while. Want to be the first?"
Luke sensed a dangerous vibe from Victoria. Despite her beauty, there was something dark about her.
"What do you want?" Luke gritted out. His plan was falling apart, and now he was being countered. If word got out, he'd be a laughingstock in the black market.
Victoria didn't answer but took two steps back, moving the gun from his waist to his back. "You two can come out now," she called out.
Luke and his men were confused, looking around. Then, from behind Luke's car, two figures emerged—Leroy and Eric. Seeing they weren't their own, Luke's men drew their hidden guns.
Victoria addressed Luke's men, "Your boss's life is in my hands. You want to risk it?"
Luke's men hesitated. Victoria pressed the gun harder against Luke's back. "Let them through."
Luke had no choice but to comply. "Let them through," he shouted.
Seeing the situation, Luke's men stepped aside. Victoria knew they had guns all along. Thalia was still there, and she didn't want her to witness any bloodshed.
Leroy and Eric approached. "We..." Leroy started, but Victoria cut him off, "Help me get my grandma out of here."
Leroy looked at Eric. "You take Thalia. I'll stay."
Eric nodded. "Alright, be careful."
"Wait," Victoria said to Eric, "Go back the way you came."
She wasn't sure about the tunnel's exit, but the way they came should be safe. When she said this, a strange look flashed in Luke's eyes.
Eric didn't question it, nodded, and went to Thalia. "Ma'am, excuse me, I'll carry you."
Victoria listened until she heard the car leave. The murderous aura she had been holding back suddenly surged. She didn't want to show her terrifying side in front of Thalia.
"Tell me, what does Christopher want you to do to me?" Victoria's cold voice came from behind Luke.
Luke didn't answer but said, "You think just because you saved the old lady, I have no leverage left?"
Victoria frowned, almost forgetting about Mia. "Where is she?"
Luke sneered, "Which one are you asking about?"
The implication was clear—he had more than one hostage. Victoria's frown deepened, and the coldness in her eyes intensified. She wondered who else Luke had taken.
