Chapter 230 Vanishing into Thin Air

Alfonso jolted up from his chair, shaking off the remnants of a wild dream.

"Alfonso! You're up just in time. Come grab some breakfast," Wade strolled in, coffee in one hand and a box of sandwiches in the other, plopping them down on the desk.

"Where's Otis?" Alfonso asked, still a bit dazed.

"He's munching on breakfast," Wade replied casually.

"Who brought it to him?" Alfonso pressed.

"I did. Went and got it myself. Chill, Alfonso," Wade assured him.

Alfonso let out a small sigh of relief. That dream where Otis died mysteriously was still messing with his head.

Just yesterday, he had Otis's health checked out—clean bill, no issues.

But Otis's overly cooperative vibe had Alfonso on edge and extra cautious.

Only when he personally dropped Otis off at Rihegde Prison did he feel somewhat at ease.

But, he did miscalculate. He thought the prison would be a safe bet.

Then, on the third morning, the day of Otis's hearing, a brawl broke out in his cell. Otis got kicked in all the wrong places and smacked his head on a metal bed frame, dead on the spot.

Alfonso only got the grim news the next morning at work.

"Mr. Howard, news from the prison. Otis is dead," Dylan reported, standing in front of the desk at Vertex Holdings Group.

Alexander didn't even flinch, like he saw it coming.

From the moment they figured out the Shadow Syndicate's boss wasn't Christopher but Otis, they knew Otis was just a fall guy.

Who would've thought Christopher would pull this move to get away clean?

Right now, it seemed like he hadn't even broken a sweat.

Alexander's main goal wasn't to lock him up but to make him lose a key ally.

But they didn't see him offing Otis in prison coming, showing his backers were no joke.

After Dylan left, Alexander made a call. "Find out which government officials have been in touch with the prison lately."

"Got it," came the reply.

After hanging up, Alexander thought of Victoria and dialed her number.

Victoria was on set, having just visited Sarah and Harrington. She slipped out through a side entrance, with Nancy bringing another car.

She had just hopped in when Alexander's call came through.

"Hey, babe, what's up?" Her voice was soft and sweet.

Alexander paused, narrowing his eyes. "You up to something?"

Victoria's heart skipped a beat. 'No way, can he really tell from 50 miles away?'

She was planning to visit a base and had to ditch the bodyguards he assigned to her.

"Yeah, didn't think you could read my mind over the phone. Impressive," Victoria's cheerful voice rang in his ears. "During the meeting, I wasn't paying attention to the report and was secretly thinking about you. Guilty conscience, right?"

Alexander's laughter boomed.

Victoria was just winging it, but she did miss him.

With a grin, Alexander replied, "I miss you too."

Soon, Victoria's clear, happy laughter filled the line.

"Honey, I miss your cooking," she said in a slightly playful tone.

Since moving back to Serenity Grove Manor, Molly had taken over the cooking duties, and Alexander hadn't stepped foot in the kitchen. Plus, he'd been swamped with work, coming home late, so Victoria didn't want to bother him.

"Alright, I'll whip something up for you tonight," Alexander said with a smile, his voice dripping with affection. He always made sure to grant her wishes.

Victoria replied sweetly, "Okay, love you."

Alexander froze, feeling a rush of warmth.

Victoria was stunned herself. Did that sweet voice really come from her?

But the words were out, and there was no taking them back. So be it, no one else knew anyway.

The call ended with Alexander saying, "I'll pick you up tonight."

Victoria took a moment to gather herself, then started the car and left the set, heading to the National Information Security Center Base.

Anyone entering there had to go through three verifications: a special card swipe, fingerprint scan, and facial recognition. Only after passing all three could one enter.

Victoria stayed inside for the entire afternoon.

She completely forgot that Alexander was supposed to pick her up.

Meanwhile, Alexander got word that she hadn't left the set since arriving.

But when he got to the set, she was nowhere to be found. Her black Mercedes was still there, though.

He called her, but her phone was out of service.

Alexander's face darkened instantly, his brows furrowed, eyes cold, and lips pressed into a thin line, exuding a chilling aura. "Find her!"

Dylan and the others were puzzled. How did Victoria just vanish?

Not daring to waste a second, Dylan immediately made some calls.

Half an hour later, they still hadn't found Victoria. It was like she had disappeared into thin air.

The surveillance only showed her entering, no leaving.

Alexander's men had searched the entire set.

Sarah and the others had just returned from an outdoor shoot, looking puzzled at the scene.

She casually asked someone, "What's going on? Why are there so many bodyguards all of a sudden?"

The person replied, "Apparently, someone disappeared from our set, and her husband is looking for her. And that man looks extremely grim and terrifying."

Sarah then saw a familiar figure. 'Isn't that Victoria's husband? Could he be the one looking for someone?'

Nancy and Virgil, who were nearby, had also seen Alexander and knew who he was.

Virgil looked puzzled. 'Victoria's missing?'

Nancy's eyelashes fluttered and mouth twitched. 'Victoria hasn't returned yet?'

Nancy made an excuse about going to the restroom and quickly left. Finding a secluded spot, she hurriedly made a call. But Victoria's phone was still out of service.

Nancy was extremely anxious. She didn't actually know where Victoria had gone. Victoria had only asked her to arrange a car at the side entrance of the set, saying she'd be back by six in the evening.

It was already half-past six.

Victoria hadn't mentioned that Alexander would come, nor had she given any instructions on how to handle the situation.

Given the current circumstances, Alexander probably thought Victoria had been kidnapped, making the situation quite absurd.

Alexander was like a lion about to rage, exuding a chilling aura.

Dylan stood by, not daring to speak.

Just as Alexander was about to lose his temper, a voice came from behind. "She's fine."
