Chapter 16: Breaking In

Victoria’s eyes dimmed as she said, "I’m not worth it."

Alexander’s hand, resting on her head, moved slightly. Instead of replying right away, he gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

His warm palm naturally cupped her cheek, his fingertips softly caressing her smooth skin.

The touch made her a bit nervous, and where he touched felt a little ticklish.

Up close, she could see her reflection in Alexander’s deep eyes, like she was the only person in his world.

His thin lips moved slightly. "You are worth it," he said, his tone firm.

Victoria’s eyes widened in surprise.

She gripped the blanket tightly.

Then Alexander reminded her, "Did you forget what I said last night?"

Her mind flashed back to the hospital, where he had promised to protect her and asked her to rely on him.

Seeing her bite her dry, pale lips, Alexander squinted slightly. She looked so fragile and beautiful that it made him swallow unconsciously.

Burdened with thoughts, Victoria followed him to the living room.

Alexander asked her to sit while he went to the kitchen. Her kitchen was open-plan, and she just stared at his back.

When he brought a bowl of porridge and placed it in front of her, she shifted her gaze to the porridge.

"Did you make this?" she asked, looking up at him woodenly.

Alexander didn’t deny it. "Owen said you could only eat light porridge after waking up."

She didn’t ask who Owen was; she was more surprised that Alexander, the heir to a top-tier family, had made porridge for her.

Seeing her stare, Alexander explained, "I’ve been living on my own since I was eighteen."

Victoria instantly understood.

"In the future, whatever you want to eat, I’ll make it for you," he said with a gentle smile.

Victoria didn’t know how to respond. She just picked up the spoon and started eating.

The porridge was light but perfectly smooth and aromatic. It was the best she’d ever had.

Outside, the sun shone brightly, streaming through the large windows and scattering light across the apartment.

At the dining table, Victoria ate her porridge while Alexander worked on his laptop. The scene was inexplicably warm and harmonious.

When she finished, she looked up to see Alexander staring intently at his laptop.

She was slightly stunned.

He looked up and asked, "Do you want more?"

Victoria instinctively shook her head.

Alexander set aside his work, stood up, poured a glass of warm water, grabbed her medicine box, and walked back to her.

Victoria’s eyes followed his every move.

"Take it in ten minutes," he said, placing the medicine and water in front of her before taking away her empty bowl.

Victoria watched his smooth, practiced movements, blinking her watery eyes. She appeared calm, but her mind was in turmoil.

He seemed very familiar with her home, even though it was his first time there.

After he sat down, Victoria asked, "How did you get in?"

Alexander was slightly stunned, his eyes narrowing subtly.

With a normal expression, he looked at her and calmly said, "Broke the lock."

Victoria froze.
