Chapter 499 The Harrison-Tudor Alliance
Lila explained to Victoria, "From what I've gathered, Clara had a breakdown after learning what happened outside. Something went wrong in prison—she was injured badly. When she woke up, she was completely delusional, recognizing no one and becoming violent whenever anyone approached her. They eventually transferred her to a psychiatric facility."
"And there's one more thing," Lila added, clapping her hands with conspiratorial excitement.
"What? There's more?" Victoria asked. "What is it?"
"Lucas is getting married."
Victoria wasn't particularly surprised by this news, but she couldn't deny her curiosity.
"Who's the bride?"
"Lavinia Harrison."
Victoria fell silent. How had Lavinia suddenly ended up engaged to Lucas?
"It hasn't been announced publicly yet," Lila said. "I heard it from my mother yesterday. You know her social circle—all those wealthy, educated socialites who can't resist gossip. I imagine the media will pick it up in a few days."
The news genuinely surprised Victoria. Alexander had recently told her that Lavinia was difficult to deal with, yet now she was suddenly marrying Lucas? What could have happened in such a short time?
At lunch, Victoria mentioned it to Alexander.
He immediately replied, "I had nothing to do with this arrangement."
Victoria knew that, of course. She was simply curious about what had transpired to bring Lucas and Lavinia to marriage.
"If you're interested, I can have Dylan look into it," Alexander offered.
"Yes, please," she replied with a smile.
"Can we enjoy our meal now?" Alexander asked with mild exasperation.
"Of course," she said, serving him some food before turning to Ignatius. "Here, Ignatius, have some more meat. You need to grow taller."
Ignatius remained silent, thinking, 'I'm already tall enough.'
Soon, Dylan reported back with his findings.
After hearing his report, Victoria raised an eyebrow. "That's it? Nothing else?"
Dylan nodded. "Yes, that's all."
She leaned back against the sofa, one arm crossed over her chest while her other hand thoughtfully stroked her chin.
It seemed too simple. She found it hard to believe that these two people had simply agreed to marry because their parents approved of the match. Though she didn't know Lavinia well, Alexander had suggested she was quite calculating. Would she really accept this marriage so willingly?
According to Dylan's investigation, the two had no prior connection.
"Actually, Mrs. Howard, there is one strange detail," Dylan suddenly remembered.
She looked up at him. "What is it?"
"Ms. Harrison and Mr. Tudor met privately," Dylan said. "The security footage only captured a brief moment of them together. After that, they seemed to deliberately avoid the cameras."
Victoria frowned at this information. That definitely suggested something suspicious.
She bit her lip and said, "Dylan, have someone watch them closely over the next few days. Make sure they aren't detected. Report anything unusual to me."
Dylan wondered why Victoria had suddenly become so interested in these two, but simply replied, "Understood."
"Good. You may go now."
Two days later, Victoria accompanied Alexander to the hospital for a checkup. He had complained of a headache that morning, and after breakfast, she insisted on taking him to the doctor.
Owen, who had just finished surgery, was called in to see them. Since returning from the Kingdom of Serenia, he had performed several back-to-back surgeries and had been hoping to get some rest.
"Let's do a brain CT scan first," he suggested.
After examining the results, Owen said, "There's nothing serious. The pain is likely caused by the blood clot in his brain gradually dissolving. I'll prescribe some medication to help with the discomfort."
"But one important thing—don't let him work too long. He needs to rest during this period. You know how he loses track of time when he's working," Owen cautioned.
"I understand," Victoria assured him.
Later, at Galaxy Parkway's LY boutique—a prestigious custom clothing establishment with over twenty years of history—Lavinia was meeting Lucas to design outfits for their wedding photoshoot.
Upon entering, she immediately noticed a wedding dress in the window display and fell in love with it.
"Why can't I buy the wedding dress in your window?" she demanded.
The shop assistant explained, "I'm sorry, but this dress was specially commissioned. It's one-of-a-kind and not for sale."
"Who ordered it?"
"I apologize, Ms. Harrison, but that's confidential client information."
Though Lavinia was a VIP customer, LY treated all clients equally and never disclosed customer details.
"Get your manager. I need to speak with her," Lavinia insisted. She was determined to have that wedding dress. In Rihegde, no one dared disrespect the Harrison family.
Soon, the manager Angela Phillips appeared, having already been briefed on the situation. The Harrison family was powerful, not someone to antagonize lightly. However...
"Ms. Harrison, hello. I'm Angela Phillips, the store manager," she greeted with polite firmness. "My staff has informed me of your request."
Lavinia looked at Angela arrogantly. "I want the wedding dress in your window. I'll pay whatever it costs."
Angela thought to herself, 'I doubt you could afford it!'
This was the most expensive and priceless wedding dress ever created by LY. Made from the finest pure silk and entirely handcrafted, its uniqueness came from its designer. It was truly one-of-a-kind.
Despite her internal frustration, Angela maintained her professional smile. "I'm truly sorry, Ms. Harrison, but we simply cannot sell you this dress. According to LY's policy, custom-made pieces belong exclusively to the client who commissioned them. No matter the price offered, we cannot sell it to anyone else. I hope you understand."
But Lavinia was fixated on the dress—the most beautiful she'd ever seen.
"Then let me just try it on," she insisted. "As long as you keep it secret, no one will know."
Angela was stunned. Was this really a sophisticated socialite? What was wrong with her?
Did she think this was her family's property?
