Chapter 243 I Have Money, But I'm Not Stupid

"Why'd you pick me to run the company? You could've found another manager easy," Wesley asked again.

Victoria shot him a knowing look. "Ever seen me interview anyone else personally?"

Wesley thought for a sec. Nope, it was just him.

Victoria continued, "Why do you think I had Joshua mentor you from the start?"

Wesley went quiet. If he didn't get it now, he really didn't deserve all the effort Victoria put into him.

Victoria added, "Plus, if I hire another manager, I'd be paying two salaries. I got money, but I ain't dumb."

Wesley smirked.

So, he was always meant to take over Horizon Group. He remembered Joshua saying Victoria's strength wasn't in running the company. She only took over 'cause she didn't want Esme's legacy to vanish.

That afternoon, HR announced Wesley as the new vice president. He jumped to VP, a spot others could only dream of.

Wesley agreed but didn't wanna be president just yet. Victoria let him start as VP, but he was still handling all the company stuff.

This wasn't a snap decision for her; it was always the plan, just sped up a bit.

Lila barged in, curious. "Babe, how'd Wesley suddenly become VP?"

The whole company was buzzing.

Victoria was handling documents. Wesley had asked for one more day as an assistant, so she was still in the office. Otherwise, she'd be gone. Wesley knew the company inside out, so no need for a handover.

Without looking up, she told Lila, "It wasn't suddenly."

"Not suddenly?" Lila thought for a few seconds, still confused. "What do you mean?"

"Why do you think I was grooming him?" Victoria finished the last page, looked up, and smiled at Lila with bright eyes.

Lila suddenly got it. "No way, you're retiring just like that? Going behind the scenes? Wesley's older than you, and you don't feel weird letting him take over?"

Victoria raised an eyebrow and said casually, "What's there to feel weird about? Going from assistant to president is a dream for many. The pay and perks are top-notch. What's not to like?"

Lila said, "Makes sense. Wesley's super lucky to have met you."

Victoria just shrugged, staying quiet.

Meanwhile, the "lucky" Wesley was still trying to wrap his head around the news.

A ton of details started flooding his mind.

Every meeting Victoria had, every deal she discussed, if it was company-related, she brought him along and asked for his input. As her special assistant, he thought it was just part of the gig. But now, looking back, it was clear she had this planned all along.

Even the way every document had to go through him first, making sure there were no issues before she signed. Some of those documents were super confidential, stuff he technically shouldn't have seen, but Victoria insisted he handle them.

The more he thought about it, the more it made sense.

He also knew Victoria couldn't stay president forever.

But this news wasn't public; only the internal staff knew.

So, officially, Victoria was still the boss. Wesley was still an employee, but from now on, he'd handle all the company stuff while Victoria chilled in the background.

Basically, she'd just be collecting checks without making any decisions.

Wesley had no choice but to accept the gig.

That evening, Victoria told Alexander about it.

Alexander looked surprised. "Why so sudden?"

Victoria smiled and broke it down for him.

After listening, Alexander hugged her, kissed her, and playfully tapped her nose. "You planned this for so long without letting anything slip."

Even he hadn't expected her to hand the company over to Wesley so directly.

Victoria hugged his strong waist, lying on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, which sounded like a melody to her.

She didn't have to take over Horizon Group. Business wasn't her thing, but she had built her own career.

Horizon Group was Esme's baby. After Esme passed, a manager was appointed, but he messed things up, leading to a financial crisis. He even embezzled funds and fled.

Victoria couldn't just watch Esme's company go down, so she stepped in.

Now that Horizon Group was back on track, she was ready to let go.

Alexander's broad hand rubbed her head, his voice gentle and magnetic. "What do you wanna do next?"

He knew that by handing Horizon Group over to Wesley, she must have other plans.

He wanted her to stay home and relax; he could take care of her. But he also knew she had her own dreams.
