Chapter 364 Leaving Rihegde
Meadowview Villa.
They arrived, but Victoria didn't get out of the car.
Kimberly noticed that after Victoria hung up the phone, she seemed quite downcast, a rare sight for her.
"Mrs. Howard, what's wrong?" Kimberly asked.
Victoria looked at her and asked, "Kimberly, why do you think Grant is so determined to find Marlowe and won't let go?"
Grant was even willing to bet the Scott Group's shares. If Grant didn't have feelings for Marlowe, then why?
Although the outcome of this bet was uncertain, Grant's willingness to put up half of the Scott Group's shares showed his sincerity.
"Mrs. Howard, it must be because Mr. Scott still has feelings for Ms. Rivera," Kimberly said.
Victoria raised an eyebrow. "How can you be sure?"
Kimberly bit her lip hesitantly. "Mrs. Howard, I heard a rumor before that when Mr. Grant Scott wanted to marry Ms. Rivera's sister, Mr. Caspian Scott opposed it, and Mr. Grant Scott had a big fight with Mr. Caspian Scott."
Opposed?
Why hadn't she heard Lila mention this?
"How do you know?" she asked.
Kimberly coughed awkwardly. "I overheard it. Mr. Grant Scott came to see Mr. Howard, and I happened to be at the door and heard it."
"What else did you hear? Do you remember?" she asked again.
Kimberly thought for a moment and then said, "I didn't hear much, but I remember Mr. Grant Scott saying that Mr. Caspian Scott didn't like Ms. Rivera's sister, saying she had poor character or something. Then Dylan called me away."
Victoria was puzzled.
As far as she knew, Caspian liked Marlowe a lot, so why didn't he like Marlowe's sister?
Moreover, she had heard that the Scott family and the Rivera family were old friends. Marlowe often visited the Scott mansion since she was a child and was well-liked by Caspian. Logically, Marlowe's sister shouldn't be that different.
"Kimberly, secretly investigate Marlowe's sister's background for me. I want to see it," she instructed.
She felt something was off.
"Yes," Kimberly replied.
Marlowe didn't expect Victoria to come.
"Why didn't you say you were coming? Are you fully recovered?" Marlowe asked, pulling her to sit on the sofa. "Why are you out and about instead of resting at home? How could Alexander let you out?"
Victoria answered briefly, "I'm fine, don't worry. How have you been lately?" Victoria glanced at Marlowe's swollen belly, "Is the baby behaving?"
Talking about the baby, Marlowe's smile grew even brighter, warmer, with a touch of maternal warmth.
"The baby is very healthy, and lately, I've been feeling the baby move inside me. It's amazing, a very subtle feeling I can't describe, but it makes me happy."
Seeing Marlowe's smile, Victoria thought she must have been doing well recently, not troubled by Grant's issues. But Victoria couldn't see through Marlowe's inner thoughts.
"Really?" Victoria was curious about what it felt like to nurture a new life.
Just thinking about a new life growing inside her brought a strange feeling, so unfamiliar that she couldn't grasp it.
"The baby is moving. Victoria, feel it." Marlowe grabbed Victoria's hand and placed it on her belly.
Victoria was slightly stunned, feeling a slight movement under her palm, as if the baby was kicking her hand.
It was indeed amazing.
"The baby usually only kicks me at night. I didn't expect it to make an exception today. It seems the baby knows you're here," Marlowe said with a smile.
After chatting for a while, Victoria suddenly asked, "Marlowe, have you really decided not to tell Grant about this? To keep it hidden?"
Marlowe was silent for a few seconds. "Grant refuses to sign the divorce papers now, so I have no choice." Marlowe sighed, "It's just two years; I'll get through it."
Victoria knew what Marlowe meant by two years; she still wanted a divorce.
"Can you bear it?" Victoria asked Marlowe.
Marlowe turned to look at Victoria, her face relaxed with a smile. "What can I do if I can't bear it? Grant will never have a place for me in his heart."
Victoria didn't know how to comfort her, seeing the bitter smile in Marlowe's eyes. Marlowe lowered her head slightly, looking at her swollen belly, and said, "Actually, when I first asked for a divorce, and then Grant came to Rihegde to find me, I had second thoughts. I thought, even if Grant never loves me, at least I can spend my life with him."
Victoria quietly listened to Marlowe.
"Victoria, do you know why I'm so determined to leave Grant and get a divorce this time?" she asked Victoria.
Victoria shook her head.
Marlowe said, "Because I don't want my child to grow up in such a depressing family. Since my child is destined to be born without a father's love, why not cut it off now? After all, without a beginning, there won't be any expectations, and there won't be any disappointment and pain."
Victoria swallowed back the words she was about to say, "Why don't you reconsider?"
Victoria's love life was so smooth that she couldn't find a single thing to complain about.
But Victoria was also a woman, and she could understand Marlowe's actions. If it were Victoria, she wouldn't want her child to be born into such a family either.
Moreover, Marlowe had told them before that Grant didn't want Marlowe to be pregnant, which meant Grant didn't like or expect this sudden child.
So when Marlowe asked Victoria for help, Victoria agreed.
"What do you plan to do next?" Victoria paused. "You probably can't hide here for long."
Victoria has been keeping secrets from Grant for too long and fears she won't be able to hide them much longer.
Marlowe understood.
As long as Marlowe stayed in Rihegde, Grant would find her eventually, and Marlowe couldn't stay in the villa forever, never going anywhere.
"Leave Rihegde," Marlowe said, "Victoria, you don't need to help me this time."
Marlowe understood Grant's nature. If he couldn't find her, he might trouble Victoria. Marlowe knew Victoria wasn't afraid, but she couldn't drag Victoria down any longer.
Victoria frowned slightly. "No, you're still pregnant. How can I let you leave on your own?"
Marlowe said, "Don't worry, I've thought it through. For the baby's sake, I won't let anything happen to myself. So, don't try to persuade me. I'll contact you when the time comes."
Actually, Marlowe had long decided to leave.
She had planned to tell them after she left, but she didn't expect Victoria to come today.
In the end, Victoria didn't say anything more. Since Marlowe had made up her mind, there was nothing more to say.
