Chapter 17: I Don't Love Him

Alexander felt a bit awkward under Victoria's gaze. It was his first time doing something so abrupt. He clenched his fist and pretended to cough into it.

Victoria felt a pang of regret; that lock had cost her nearly $10,000 and she had only used it for two months. And now, he had already broken it?

"I've had Dylan replace it for you," Alexander said.

Since he had already replaced it, she couldn't really say anything. After all, he wasn't exactly an outsider; he was still her nominal husband.

"I temporarily set the password to our wedding date. If you want to change it, you can do so later," Alexander added.

But Victoria replied, "No need, just leave it as is."

She picked up a glass of water, took a sip, and deftly opened a pillbox. Alexander's eyes fixed on her, his lips curving into a warm smile. He was happy with her tacit approval.

After spending a little more time with her and making sure she was okay, Alexander left and returned to his office.

Victoria sat cross-legged on the sofa, hugging a pillow, her eyes fixed on the spot where Alexander had just been sitting. She sat there in a daze for a while before letting out a long sigh.

Having someone suddenly intrude into her real life made her a bit panicked and even anxious. They had clearly agreed that they wouldn't interfere with each other unless they needed help, but now she realized that wasn't the case.

Frustrated, she ran her fingers through her hair, got up, and went to her room to take a shower. She planned to get some sleep afterward.

In the bathroom, in front of the mirror, Victoria looked at herself and realized she was wearing pajamas. She was instantly stunned. She had been in front of Alexander in her pajamas for so long and hadn't even noticed.

"Victoria, are you out of your mind!" she scolded herself. This was too embarrassing! Instantly, all her sleepiness vanished.

After taking a hot bath, she received a call from her good friend, Lila Scott.

"Victoria, have you missed the beautiful, elegant, and noble Lila Scott?" Lila's charming and confident voice came through the phone.

Victoria didn't answer her, mainly because she couldn't find the words. Instead, she asked, "When are you coming back?"

Lila, who was still far away in Paris, continued, "I miss you so much, especially your unique scent. I want to hug you so badly. I'm so lonely and bored here on this business trip."

Victoria remained silent.

Victoria quietly listened as Lila changed the subject. "I just saw that you and Lucas broke off your engagement, right?"

"Yes."

Lila sounded worried. "Are you really okay with it?"

Victoria looked calm. "Why wouldn't I be? I don't love him."

Lila thought about it and understood. For years, everyone thought Victoria was unwilling to break off the engagement because she loved Lucas, but only she knew that Victoria had never loved that douchebag.

Victoria then told her about Clara's suicide attempt and how she had thrown Clara into the pond.

Lila remarked, "Well, that two-faced person is really lucky to still be alive!"

Victoria thought, Clara wasn't lucky; she just couldn't bear to really die.

"Wait until I get back. I'll teach her a lesson. Let her be smug for a few more days," Lila said with a mischievous smile.

Victoria chuckled softly. "Okay."

In their circle, only Lila could make Clara afraid and not dare to talk back.

Lila suddenly remembered something. "By the way, at the end of this month, I heard the Green family is hosting a piano recital for their heir and has invited all the elite families of Ridgewood. They even invited the internationally renowned pianist Colin Campbell."

Victoria responded with an indifferent grunt.

"The key point is, Mr. Campbell is coming to take on a student, and the candidates are the Green family's heir and Clara," Lila added.

This news was something Lila had heard from a friend.

Victoria's brows furrowed slightly, and her hand paused as she reached for her water glass. Take on a student?

"I see." Victoria responded indifferently.

"If Mr. Campbell really takes Clara as a student, she'll probably start showing off again. The award she got in that piano competition years ago was falsely claimed, and she still has the nerve to hold onto that position. Truly shameless," Lila complained.

Victoria took a sip of water and said bluntly, "If she weren't shameless, she wouldn't be Clara."

"True, only Lucas and the Kennedy family treat her like a precious gem. What a bunch of deluded fools."

When it came to the Kennedy family and Lucas, Lila was even more agitated and angry than Victoria, unable to resist cursing them.

Lila said, "Enough about them. Let's talk about you. How have you been lately? Are you hurt?"

Victoria looked at her bandaged left hand and lied, "No."

She didn't plan to tell Lila about her and Alexander, fearing it would shock her best friend.
