Chapter 281 I Dreamed That You Abandoned Me

"Before, we only checked Victoria's special blood type. This time, I had them recheck it," Owen said, gripping the documents. "Coagulation disorders can be hereditary or acquired." He handed the report to Alexander. "This report shows hers is the latter."

Owen added, "The big thing is, her blood now has a rare component I've never seen before."

"What do you mean?" Alexander asked, frowning. "What does this have to do with her condition now?"

Owen tried to break it down, "Her blood's developing antibodies, so the special potion doesn't work anymore. That's why her bleeding was worse this time."

"But don't worry," Owen assured him. "She's not in immediate danger. She just lost more blood, which we can replace."

Owen said this to make it clear, but Alexander's icy, warning gaze met him.

Clearing his throat, Owen added, "As long as there's no major tissue damage causing bleeding, I can handle it. I trust you won't let her get hurt. Also, get me a bottle of Victoria's special potion."

Alexander nodded somberly and turned back to the hospital room.

Victoria dreamed she was lost in a fog, unable to find her way out. Every time she thought she was close, she ended up back where she started, her head aching and body weak.

Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure ahead. She trotted towards it, and just a few steps away, the person slowly turned around.

Her pupils dilated. Alexander, who had been watching over her, saw her eyes snap open and quickly got up from his chair.

Victoria was still shaken from her dream when she saw the familiar, handsome face in front of her.

Alexander leaned over, looking at her, and gently asked, "Do you feel any discomfort?"

Victoria rolled her eyes, shook her head, and looked around at the ceiling. This wasn't her bedroom. The strong smell of disinfectant hit her nose. 'Am I in a hospital?'

Alexander helped her sit up. Just as he was about to adjust the pillow, she weakly grabbed his hand and said under her breath, "I want to lean on you."

Without a word, Alexander sat on the edge of the bed, offering his chest as a backrest and adjusting her into a comfortable position.

He reached out to rub her head, lowered his eyes, and asked, "Did you have a nightmare?"

The way she woke up seemed unnatural, like she had been startled awake. Her eyes had been unfocused for a moment.

Victoria blinked pitifully, looked up at him, and said softly, "I dreamed that you abandoned me."

Alexander was silent for a moment.

Victoria asked, "Does that count as a nightmare?"

She didn't tell him the real dream; she just wanted to see him fuss over her.

Alexander knew she was doing it on purpose. He played along, "I could abandon anyone and give up all my honor and power, but I would never abandon you."

His deep, magnetic voice was like a feather tickling her ear and going straight to her heart.

She pressed her slightly pale lips together and smiled, "I believe you."

Her face was still a bit pale, but her cheeks had a rosy tint, making her look much better.

Suddenly, she reached out to touch his brow.

"I'm fine now, so why are you still frowning?" she said as she smoothed it out.

Alexander hadn't even realized it himself.

Even though she was okay for now, this whole thing made him realize he hadn't protected her as well as he thought.

Suddenly, there was a light cough at the door. Lila and Owen had been standing there for a few minutes.

Lila walked in, arms crossed, staring at Victoria on the bed. She chuckled and teased, "I was worried you'd be weak and uncomfortable when you woke up, but with Alexander here, you're perfectly fine. Looks like I worried for nothing. Are you trying to make me jealous?"

Victoria was a bit taken aback and hadn't had time to respond when she saw Owen, who was behind Lila, pull her into his arms.

Lila struggled for a moment, then turned to glare at him, "What are you doing?"

Owen lowered his eyes to meet hers, a gentle smile on his lips, but his words made Lila want to kick him.

He smirked and said, "Darling, I can be your support too. No need to envy others."

Lila fell silent. Since getting closer to Owen, she felt she had misjudged him. This side of Owen had nothing to do with refinement.

Victoria was also seeing this side of Owen for the first time. Among the people she knew, there was no one like Owen who could blend elegance and wickedness so perfectly, and still be likable.

No wonder Lila was complaining and ranting while unknowingly falling deeper.

Alexander's temple twitched, and he said coldly, "If you want to flirt, do it outside!"

The three of them fell silent.

Being forced to stay in the hospital for two days by Alexander was the limit for Victoria.

She really didn't like the smell of disinfectant in hospitals. It wasn't a psychological issue; she just didn't like it.

"Home is so much more comfortable, and the air is better." After returning home, she lay down on the living room couch.

She had regained most of her energy and would return to completely normal after a few more days of rest.

But when she turned her head, she saw Alexander's face looking a bit gloomy. She sat up, pulled him to sit next to her, and tilted her head to ask, "What's wrong?"

Alexander saw that she looked much better today and asked, "Tell me, has this happened before?"

He hadn't asked her in the past two days, mainly to take care of her emotions and not make her overthink.

"So that's why you looked so gloomy?" She seemed relaxed and answered quickly, "Yes, because of the antibodies in my blood."

Alexander's brow furrowed. 'You know it?'

Seeing him frown again, Victoria reached out to smooth it and gently coaxed, "I'm fine, don't worry. It's just a bit more blood loss, not fatal."

If no one had noticed, she would be in a very dangerous situation. But she wouldn't tell him that.

She then explained, "Every once in a while, my blood develops antibodies. But I don't know the reason."

Alexander asked, "How often?"

She replied, "Every six months."

She added, "I've been busy lately and forgot to tell you. This time, it just happened to be six months."

Alexander's face instantly darkened. How could she forget something so important? If he hadn't come back that day, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Suddenly, he leaned in and kissed her hard, biting her lip.

Though it was meant to be harsh, he couldn't bear to hurt her, so it was just a light bite as a form of punishment.

"Is there anything else you haven't told me?" He wasn't upset that she kept things from him; he was afraid there might be something he didn't know and hadn't prepared for, which could hurt her.

Victoria understood what he meant and smiled at him, "No, nothing else."

Alexander asked doubtfully, "Really?"

"Yes," After she finished speaking, she took the initiative to kiss him again.

Her body hadn't fully recovered, so Alexander didn't dare do anything more than kiss her.
