Chapter 420 Extreme Panic

There seemed to be no good solution: if she fired a shot, it would alert the child traffickers; if she didn't, she was no match for the pack of wolves with her bare hands.

If it had been humans in front of her, she might have stood a chance.

The wolves' heightened senses and formidable combat abilities made them unpredictable. Without any weapons, victory was nearly impossible.

And besides the seven wolves in front of her, she didn't know if there were more nearby.

Wolves were very united. Once they gathered together, there was no hope for her to escape.

So she can only use her wits to protect herself.

Recalling a large tree 160 feet behind her, she felt confident she could outrun the wolves for that distance. With a plan in mind, she didn't hesitate any longer; she swiftly turned and began to run.

The wolves, which had been hiding in the grass, shot out like arrows.

Their speed was so fast that they were almost upon Victoria in the blink of an eye.

Driven by her strong survival instinct and physical strength, Victoria ran at an incredible speed and nimbly climbed up the tree.

The wolves almost reached the tree just as she got there, her feet barely leaving the ground.

They tried to jump and bite her legs, but she was quick to pull them up.

She stopped when she reached a middle height on the tree.

Breathing heavily, she sat on a thick branch and looked down at the wolves below.

They surrounded the tree, baring their teeth and looking up at her, with a few trying to climb up.

But this wasn't a small tree; it looked like it had been there for decades, and it was very tall. So they couldn't climb up.

Seeing this, she temporarily breathed a sigh of relief.

It seemed she could only wait until daylight.

"Damn, if Eugene comes looking for me, he'll run into them," she suddenly muttered.

She took out her phone and, to her surprise, found two bars of signal in the deep forest, likely because she was up in the tree.

On the other side, Eugene, who was still looking for the special symbols Victoria had left, didn't know she was trapped in a tree by wolves.

Victoria made two consecutive calls, but neither went through.

She furrowed her brows slightly, thinking, 'Could Eugene already be looking for me?'

After thinking for a moment, she glanced down at the wolves below the tree. She pulled out a small dagger, aimed at one of the wolves, and without hesitation, threw it. The dagger struck the wolf's forehead with precision.

Immediately, a mournful howl echoed through the forest, chilling the air, but Victoria watched coldly.

The wolf that had fallen quickly succumbed, its eyes closing as it lost consciousness. The other wolves soon began to howl in unison, their cries resonating through the deep forest.

Eugene, following the symbols Victoria had left, suddenly heard the howling of wolves.

He looked in the direction of the sound, which was right ahead.

"Damn, could Victoria have run into a pack of wolves?" He frowned.

Just as he was about to quicken his pace, he suddenly stopped.

Something was off. The howling sounded mournful, a sound wolves only made when one of their own had died, not a call to attack someone.

He took out his phone and checked it; there was no signal.

He then found a tree, climbed to the top, and took out his phone again.

After a few seconds, two bars of signal appeared. Then he immediately called Victoria, who answered quickly.

"Victoria, are you okay?" Eugene asked.

"I'm fine," Victoria replied. "Where are you now?"

Eugene told her what had just happened.

"Mr. Romero?" Victoria muttered.

She immediately thought of Alfonso.

But that didn't make sense.

In the middle of the night, in the distant Kingdom of Serenia, how could he be here?

"Eugene, go back to the original spot; no need to look for me. Keep an eye on the people from 103," Victoria said, not dwelling on the matter. "I've already talked to Thomas, and they're coming in early."

Eugene replied, "Yes, I'll head back now." Then, worried, he added, "Be careful."

"Okay, got it."

After hanging up, Victoria sat on the branch to rest for a while, lost in thought.

As she thought, she didn't know how much time had passed when her phone suddenly vibrated.

She looked at it, and her heart raced with fear.

Why was he calling her now?

She checked the time, and it was six in the morning.

She thought for a moment. According to her original plan, she should be returning to Aidamore, and now the plane should have arrived at the airport.

She hesitated for a moment, wondering whether to answer the call.

After thinking it over, she decided to answer.

"Darling, what's up?" Victoria asked.

Alexander's deep, magnetic voice came through, "Have you arrived?"

Victoria swallowed. "Yes, I've arrived."

Fortunately, the wolves below were no longer howling.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have answered the call.

Alexander said, "Good, wait for me at the hotel."

Feeling guilty, she quickly changed the subject. "Darling, where are you now?"

Alexander paused for a moment and said, "I'm at the airport."

Gideon, standing not far behind him, looked incredulously at the empty forest.

He turned to Owen, "Owen, since when did Alexander learn to lie?"

Owen glanced around and then smiled, "He's on the phone with Victoria. What else would he say?"

Gideon nodded thoughtfully. "No wonder he's calling at this hour; it's for Victoria." Then he sighed in frustration. "If it weren't for the kidnapping, we wouldn't be stuck in this godforsaken place."
