Chapter 291 The Arrogant Victoria
Clara's address from yesterday led to an abandoned, half-finished building.
The place was a mess, with weeds everywhere and mud and leftover construction junk all over the ground.
Victoria couldn't wrap her head around why they had to meet in such a rundown spot.
As soon as Victoria's black Mercedes rolled up and she stepped out, Clara showed up.
Victoria's lips curled into a sly smile. "You came out to greet me yourself? There must be someone important inside."
Clara shot her an annoyed look and snapped, "Hurry up."
Victoria stayed cool, looking around casually. "Not a bad spot, with nice view and fresh air."
"Just a bit out of the way, and the road's a pain," she added, genuinely.
Clara was stunned, thinking, 'She's actually enjoying the scenery? And she's in a good mood? This isn't what I expected. Isn't she scared to come alone?'
Once they went inside, two figures quickly moved through the weeds behind the building, and a big white figure was coming from another direction.
Meanwhile, in the top-floor CEO office of Vertex Holdings Group, Dylan was baffled by Alexander's decision.
He actually let Victoria go alone to meet Christopher.
"Mr. Howard, shouldn't we go help Victoria?" Dylan asked, unable to hold back.
Alexander finished signing the last document and looked up at Dylan, his eyes cold.
"He wouldn't dare touch her," Alexander said confidently.
Dylan suddenly remembered that Matthew had brought Caesar along. With Caesar there, no one would dare mess with Victoria.
In fact, Clara and Christopher's partnership had always been under their watch. Or rather, Christopher's moves had always been under their control; Christopher just didn't know it.
Since that explosion, every move Christopher made was monitored by Mystic Hall.
This time, using Clara to set up a meeting with Victoria was just a test.
Gideon pushed the door open, and at the same time, Victoria met the mastermind.
Even though she had known for a while, she acted surprised. A flash of shock crossed her eyes as she said, "So, you're the one backing Clara."
Christopher, in a black suit with a smile, sat in a brand-new chair that didn't fit the surroundings at all. His legs were crossed, and he held a cigarette, looking relaxed.
Christopher blew out a ring of smoke and said, "Didn't think you'd actually come alone. Alexander really trusts you."
Victoria dropped the surprise from her eyes and said calmly, "That shows sincerity."
Then, without waiting for him to speak, she got straight to the point. "I heard you have info about my mom's death?"
It was the second time Christopher had been this close to Victoria.
He had to admit, aside from Victoria's stunning beauty, her calm and aloof demeanor was exceedingly captivating, and she was incredibly intelligent.
Christopher suddenly asked, "Ever thought about marrying someone else?"
Victoria kept her cool and shot back, "Are you suggesting yourself?"
Christopher just grinned, ignoring the sarcasm. "You're not only beautiful but also quick-witted."
She smirked, "Sorry, but you're not even close to Alexander's level. Do you think I'm blind or stupid enough to choose you?"
Christopher went quiet.
Clara, standing nearby, was shocked at Victoria's boldness in talking back to Christopher.
The first time Clara met Christopher, his intimidating presence scared her. But to get rid of Victoria, she had no choice.
Clara forgot that Victoria, being with someone like Alexander, wouldn't be scared of Christopher.
Suddenly, a man in black next to Christopher shouted, "How dare you! Christopher is not someone you can insult!"
The shout didn't faze Victoria but startled Clara.
Christopher raised his hand, signaling the man to step back.
Then, Christopher's lips curled into a sinister smile. "I like your straightforwardness. I think we could get along well."
"Aren't you afraid Alexander will hear this and break your legs?" Victoria sneered, glancing at his legs.
Christopher was taken aback.
Alexander shouldn't know he came to see Victoria, and Victoria wouldn't tell him. Otherwise, she wouldn't have come alone today.
Clara, listening on the side, felt things were going off track.
"Alright, stop wasting time. Where's the information?" Victoria changed the subject.
Her attitude was so arrogant. Although Christopher appeared calm, he was already seething with anger inside. However, he couldn't show it and had to keep it in check.
He raised his hand and made a slight gesture. The person behind him understood and handed over a manila envelope.
Victoria was a bit surprised. Was there really information for her to see?
She stood still, waiting for him to speak. She didn't believe someone as cunning as Christopher would give her the information without any strings attached.
Christopher stood up with the envelope, threw the cigarette butt on the ground, stomped on it, and took a few steps towards her, stopping three steps away.
However, Victoria's presence was not inferior to Christopher's.
Christopher narrowed his eyes, studying Victoria. Since she walked in, her hands had been casually tucked in her pockets, exuding a relaxed and fearless demeanor. She truly had guts.
Since that explosion, he knew Victoria could remain calm in the face of danger.
With a sinister smile, he looked at her meaningfully. "I can give it to you, but I have one condition."
She was smart enough not to agree or refuse right away and simply said, "Let me hear what you have to say."
Meanwhile, Alexander and the others caught every word of their conversation.
Gideon glanced at the calm Alexander. Although he appeared calm, his eyes were filled with coldness. Gideon was sure that if Christopher were in front of Alexander right now, he would be beaten badly.
However, they couldn't deal with Christopher just yet.
