Chapter 337 Are You Going All Out?
"I was thinking about you," Victoria blurted out. She waved her hands in front of him, her clear eyes blinking, and pouted. "Alexander, help me up. My butt's numb from sleeping."
Victoria had never slept so uncomfortably before, thanks to the injuries on her back and legs. She wanted to sleep on her stomach, but that would press on the stitches on her leg, so they just bandaged her back wound more thickly and put a soft, fluffy blanket underneath her. She was thin, so the pressure was lighter.
Alexander truly believed that after her one plunge into the river, she had become more brazen. Victoria never used to say such things in front of him.
Ever since Victoria woke up, she had been calling Alexander "honey," which she only did when she needed something from him or when Alexander forced her to during sex.
Alexander didn't take Victoria's hand but instead slipped his arm under her neck, placing his hand on her small shoulder, and gently helped her up.
Victoria took the opportunity to naturally wrap her arms around Alexander's neck as he bent down. "I'm hungry," she said after she sat up, blinking. "What did you bring me to eat tonight?"
"Savory oatmeal," Alexander replied.
She frowned slightly. "Porridge again? But I want to eat meat."
Victoria smacked her lips at Alexander. She usually couldn't go a meal without meat, and now that she was injured, she craved it even more.
Alexander poured her a cup of warm water and brought it to her lips. "Drink the water." Victoria drank more than half of the warm water.
Alexander found Victoria was obedient and cute now, like a well-behaved kitten, but when she was disobedient, she was quite a headache. Victoria could act cute and obedient in front of him, while she could also be fearless in front of others.
"There is also meat in savory oatmeal," Alexander said after she finished drinking.
Victoria was speechless. "But that's not the kind of meat I want," she retorted. Alexander, with his long arms, reached out and put the cup back.
Alexander sat by the bedside, glancing at Victoria with raised eyebrows and a faint smile. "I know. Once you're better, I'll let you eat."
Victoria frowned, staring at him for a few seconds. Why did she feel like Alexander's words didn't match what she was saying?
"No, I want meat, real meat," Victoria saw the look in Alexander's eyes and added, "At the very least, boiled meat will do. It's still meat."
"Yes, exactly, it's still meat." Alexander nodded in agreement, "But there's a kind of meat that's even more delicious and unforgettable."
Victoria was puzzled. "What meat?"
Alexander smiled mischievously and leaned in to whisper in her ear. Victoria froze instantly. "Alexander, I'm talking about serious matters!"
Alexander saw her ears turning red and chuckled. "This is serious too."
Victoria was speechless. How could he turn everything into this kind of topic? Victoria said, "I'm a patient."
Alexander said, "I know, that's why I said, when you get better, I'll give you meat."
Victoria didn't want to continue this conversation, feeling like there was a trap waiting for her.
In the end, Victoria ate the oatmeal. It was bland, but at least it was well-cooked and tasty.
"Did you make this porridge at home after coming back from the office and then came over?" Victoria asked casually.
Instead of answering her directly, Alexander asked, "Why, are you touched?"
Victoria immediately replied, "Not touched. You said this is what you should do."
Suddenly, Victoria smelled a scent in the air that was both familiar and strange. "When did you start using agarwood in your office?" Victoria asked, "Are you having trouble sleeping? Not feeling well?"
Alexander was a bit taken aback but quickly regained his composure. "How is your nose so sharp?" he teased.
Victoria smirked, "Don't forget what Horizon Group does. My nose is very sensitive."
"Are you really not feeling well?" she asked, a hint of concern in her eyes.
"I'm fine. Dylan had someone put it there. They're worried that if I collapse from overwork, there'll be no one to pay them. They said it's to relieve my stress. I never bother with these things; they handle it all," Alexander made up an excuse.
"Alright," Victoria said, then asked, "Did you fail to negotiate a deal today?"
Alexander glanced at her. "Why do you ask?"
"Because ever since you walked in, you've been restless," she replied. Even though he had teased her earlier, she could still sense that something was on his mind. Victoria looked at Alexander, waiting for his answer.
"Yes, I did have a negotiation this afternoon," Alexander said. "But it's not that it didn't go well; I just didn't like their terms."
Victoria said bluntly, "That doesn't sound like you. You're the boss of Vertex Holdings Group, a business tycoon, and the head of the Howard family. If you don't like their terms, just don't accept them."
Alexander countered, "What if it were you? What if the terms were proposed by someone you couldn't afford to offend? What would you do?"
Victoria paused and said, "If it were me, I would be myself. No one can force me to agree to anything I don't want to. But..."
Victoria glanced at him, her eyes sparkling with a smile. She suddenly changed her tone. "You're an exception. I'll listen to whatever you say."
Alexander didn't expect her to say that, looking at her smiling eyes. After resting quietly for most of the day, her pale complexion gradually became much rosier.
"Are you sure you'll listen to everything I say?" Alexander asked. Victoria nodded vigorously, looking like a well-behaved child.
"Alright," Alexander said. "From now on, no matter what happens, you must tell me immediately. Otherwise..."
Victoria was puzzled. What could possibly happen? But she still nodded in agreement. Victoria crossed her hands on the mobile table in front of her, staring at him curiously. "Otherwise what?"
Victoria was more interested in this. What new way had Alexander thought of to punish her?
"Otherwise, you might lose me," Alexander said slowly.
Victoria's smile froze instantly, and her heart skipped a beat. She blinked and asked, "Are you serious?"
Victoria tried to read something from his face and eyes, but there was no hint of a joke in Alexander's expression. Alexander said nothing, just nodded.
Across the street from the hospital entrance, a black Rolls-Royce had been parked for most of the day. Kevin couldn't understand why the famous Grant would use such a waiting tactic. Who would believe it if they heard? They had done nothing all day but wait.
The car's low pressure made Kevin uneasy; he'd rather go back and engage his mind. At this point, he found himself suddenly appreciating being busy.
"Mr. Scott," Kevin said nervously from the driver's seat, glancing at the time and then at the rearview mirror. "It's almost seven o'clock. I don't think Marlowe is coming."
Meanwhile, at Meadowview Villa, Marlowe had felt much more at ease after talking to Victoria on the phone around noon. But she was still a bit worried, especially since they kept telling her not to go out.
Actually, she couldn't go out. She was heavily pregnant and didn't dare drive herself. She was also afraid it wouldn't be safe to take a taxi.
In the afternoon, she started preparing ingredients and made three different flavored cupcakes to bring to Victoria later. She knew Victoria loved sweets from last time. She had Lila ask Owen; she knew that Victoria could eat sweets but not too much.
At the hospital, within the ward, Victoria had just been fed by Alexander when the bodyguard's voice resonated from outside. "Mr. Howard, someone is here to see Mrs. Howard."
