Chapter 29 "Your bonus for this month is gone!"
Wesley thought for a moment before saying, "To outsiders, he seems like a carefree, cynical rich guy, always in clubs and bars, surrounded by scandals, but..."
Victoria stayed quiet, waiting for him to continue.
Wesley paused, then went on, "A year ago, he took over the Parker Group's hotel. It had a bad rep with lots of complaints. But in the past year, no complaints and revenue's up two percent. Not huge, but still an improvement."
Wesley pieced it together and his eyes lit up. "Is his carefree act just a front?"
Victoria narrowed her eyes. "He's not a legitimate child, but an illegitimate son from a mistress."
This was news to Wesley; he hadn't expected that.
But in wealthy families, it wasn't surprising.
"I remember he has an older brother, Kieran Parker. Their dad, Damon Parker, really values Kieran, who's set to inherit everything. Nolan, though illegitimate, is still part of the family. It's normal for his dad to let him run the hotel. Before he was brought into the family at sixteen, he was carefree. With the family's backing, he got even wilder. If he was pretending, he couldn't have kept it up since childhood, right?" Wesley said.
Last night, Victoria had looked into Nolan's background. On the surface, everything seemed normal, but it was too normal, which made her suspicious.
Victoria glanced at Wesley. "Someone good at hiding their true intentions and planning long-term could easily pretend from the start."
Wesley felt a chill. Such a meticulous person, willing to hide their true nature for years, was truly terrifying.
People like that were the most dangerous because you never knew when they might betray you.
"So, should we still work with them?" Wesley asked.
Victoria, looking composed, said calmly, "Of course, why not? This is now your responsibility."
Wesley was puzzled.
Victoria smiled faintly. "We're not his target."
Wesley was stunned, then realized, "His target is the Parker Group?"
Victoria just smiled.
"But what if he has hidden motives in our deal?" Wesley was still worried.
Victoria shrugged. "He won't. And even if he does, he won't get the chance."
Wesley fell silent.
Listening to Victoria's confident words, Wesley felt foolish for doubting her. How could someone as sharp as Victoria be afraid of such things?
"I'll go prepare the contract," Wesley said quickly.
"Alright," Victoria replied, opening her email and sounding indifferent.
Wesley went off to prepare the contract, while Victoria stared at a confidential email in her inbox. It contained just one sentence:
Sender: GB [People from Mystic Hall are looking for Zing. Be careful.]
Victoria narrowed her eyes. The mysterious Mystic Hall? Why were they after her?
After a moment, she replied: [Got it!]
Meanwhile, at Vertex Holdings Group...
In the chairman's office, Dylan stood respectfully in front of the desk. "The Green family just sent an invitation."
Alexander, reading a document, asked coldly without looking up, "What invitation?"
"On the 28th, the Green family is hosting a piano exchange event, inviting all the prominent families in Ridgewood. They've also invited the famous pianist Colin. It's to get the Green family's heir into the national piano association," Dylan explained.
Then he remembered something and said, "Also, we just got a report about Mrs. Howard."
Alexander immediately stopped what he was doing and looked up.
Dylan noted how Victoria's matters always took priority for Alexander. "This morning, the Kennedy family was waiting for Mrs. Howard at her company. Not sure what was said, but they were later escorted out by security, looking pretty defeated."
Alexander's eyes darkened. He glanced at Dylan and said coldly, "In the future, prioritize your reports! This month's bonus is gone! Now leave!"
He then resumed his work.
Dylan froze.
He wanted to argue, but Alexander didn't give him a chance. Dylan left the office, feeling like crying but unable to shed tears.
Back in the secretary's office, Dylan sighed deeply. His nearly ten-thousand-dollar bonus for the month was gone!
Marcus, hearing this, gave him a sympathetic look. "Thanks! Your experience saved my bonus."
Dylan just gave him a look that said, "Please don't gloat, okay?"
Today's lesson: Anything related to Victoria comes first!
