Chapter 280 Victoria is Hospitalized
Kimberly glanced in the rearview mirror, her brow furrowing. "Mrs. Howard, that car's been tailing us since we left the villa."
Victoria looked up at the mirror too but stayed cool. "Ignore it. They won't do anything."
Kimberly was confused but didn't push it.
Victoria's stomach was acting up, so she closed her eyes to rest. If it weren't for the meds she got last night, she probably wouldn't have made it out today.
An hour later, they pulled up to Serenity Grove Manor.
Back home, Victoria headed straight to her room to rest. She had a long, weird dream and felt like her body was sinking, like something was draining out of her. She heard someone calling her name, all urgently and frantically, but she couldn't open her eyes to see who it was. The voice did sound familiar, though.
Cleveland Clinic.
In the hospital room, Owen stood with his hands in the pockets of his white coat, eyeing the grim-faced Alexander. He noticed the bloodstains on Alexander's clothes and how disheveled he looked. Even when Alexander was hurt, he never looked this panicked.
Half an hour earlier, Alexander had burst into the hospital carrying Victoria, looking so frantic that Owen almost thought she was dying.
Victoria was close to it; if they'd been any later, she would've bled out from her period.
Owen sighed, patted Alexander on the shoulder, and said, "Don't worry, Victoria's stable now. We gave her a blood transfusion and another shot to stop the bleeding. She'll be fine after a few days of rest."
"Go change; Dylan brought some clothes for you. Victoria will wake up soon," Owen reminded him.
Alexander frowned and headed to the bathroom in the ward. A moment later, he came out in fresh clothes.
He signaled to Owen, and they both stepped out of the room.
Outside, Dylan and Kimberly were waiting.
Alexander and Owen walked to the other end of the hallway.
Alexander still felt a chill of fear. No one knew how terrified he was when he got home and saw all that blood on the bed.
He should've been at the office, but Kimberly had told him Victoria didn't look well, so he rushed back after his meeting. If he hadn't, no one would've found her in time.
With a dark, somber look, Alexander asked in a low voice, "Why did this happen? She had already taken the shot."
Owen's eyes flickered with a hint of sharpness. "We'll have to wait for the test results. There are always some uncontrollable factors. I can't give you a definite answer right now."
Owen hoped this was just a fluke.
The hallway went quiet for a moment.
Owen then asked, "Has she ever had this problem before?"
Alexander frowned deeply, his eyes darkening. That question stumped him.
She'd been fine during her last two periods, just a bit pale. Before that, he really didn't know.
Suddenly, they both thought of someone.
Half an hour later, Lila got a call from Owen and rushed to the hospital.
As soon as Lila got out of the car, she bolted straight into the hospital. Owen came down to meet her and saw her rushing in, even in high heels.
He hurried over, grabbed her arm, and steadied her. The hospital lobby was packed, and if she fell, she'd get hurt.
Owen hadn't given her the full story over the phone, just that Victoria was unconscious and in the hospital, which had sent Lila into a panic.
Seeing him, Lila anxiously grabbed his arm and fired off a bunch of questions, "How's Victoria? Is she okay? Why's she in the hospital? I just talked to her on the phone not long ago. Why didn't I notice anything wrong with her voice? I'm so stupid."
Owen was momentarily stunned by Lila's tear-filled eyes.
Lila was always so cheerful around him; he'd never seen her sad or crying.
He interrupted her and tried to calm her down, "Don't worry, she's fine. She just needs a few days of rest."
Lila felt a bit more at ease hearing his gentle and steady voice.
In the ward, Lila looked at Victoria lying quietly on the bed, feeling very conflicted.
To be honest, Lila had never seen Victoria so weak.
"Are you sure Victoria is really okay?" Lila instinctively tugged on Owen's coat and looked up at him, asking again with concern.
Owen looked at her worried eyes, patted her head, and assured her, "She's really fine."
Then he added, "Did you know she has a clotting disorder?"
Lila nodded, "Yeah, I know."
Of course, Lila knew about it. Suddenly, she realized that Owen hadn't told her why Victoria was hospitalized. "You haven't told me what happened to Victoria."
Owen didn't hesitate to say, "She got her period." After all, he was a doctor and saw no need to avoid the topic.
Lila's mind went blank for a moment, stunned.
Lila knew about Victoria's condition, "But Victoria always takes a special injection. She's never had this problem before, just stayed in bed for a few days."
From Lila's words, Owen understood that Victoria had never had this issue before, or if she had, Lila didn't know about it.
Alexander, sitting by the bed, naturally heard this.
"You said the injection she takes is special?" Owen keenly caught the key point.
Owen hadn't asked before, but since Victoria knew her condition, she must know how to keep herself safe during her period.
Owen's question also caught Alexander's attention; Victoria had never mentioned this to him.
Lila nodded, "Yeah, because of Victoria's unique condition, regular vitamin K doesn't work for her."
Lila then added, "But she didn't specify what it was, just told me not to worry."
At this moment, a nurse entered the room, saying, "Mr. Rodriguez, here is the patient's report from the hematology department." The nurse handed the report to Owen and left.
Owen opened the report and started reading. Lila tiptoed to look as well, but although she recognized the words, she didn't understand their meaning.
However, Owen's expression told the two present that there was a problem.
"Come out, I need to talk to you," Owen said, looking at Alexander.
He then told Lila, "Stay with Victoria."
Lila, for once, didn't ask questions and nodded obediently.
She knew she couldn't help with this and trusted Owen's medical skills.
Watching the two leave the room, Lila stomped worriedly towards Victoria, who was still unconscious.
