Chapter 13 Alexander's Concern
Owen squinted under his glasses, frowning slightly.
Alexander, watching him closely, noticed the odd behavior right away.
"What's up?" he asked.
Owen ignored him, focusing instead on the unusually quiet Victoria in his arms.
"Do you have a blood clotting disorder?" he asked seriously.
He'd already figured it out when her palm wound wouldn't stop bleeding; he just wanted to see if she knew.
Everyone was a bit stunned.
Alexander let go of Victoria and gave her a deep look.
Victoria didn't meet his gaze. Instead, she looked at Owen and calmly said, "Yes."
Owen was surprised by her calmness. People with a blood clotting disorder could face serious complications if not treated quickly. Since she knew she had this condition, she should have been more careful.
Owen stood up, grabbed some more medicine, and came back.
His expression was serious now.
"You know you have this condition, so why'd you let yourself get hurt?" Owen asked sternly while reapplying the medicine.
That was exactly what Alexander and the others wanted to ask.
Victoria didn't know how to respond.
"Do you not care about your body?"
"Do you know that if the wound is big and the bleeding doesn't stop, you could die?"
Victoria stayed silent.
It wasn't that serious; she still had some control. Today was just an accident.
Hearing the word "die," Alexander's heart skipped a beat, and he felt a bit panicked.
"Doctor, I know my limits."
Victoria felt awkward, coughed lightly, and weakly replied, hoping Owen would stop lecturing her.
Every time she got hurt, her friend Seraphina Hernandez would nag her non-stop while applying medicine.
Finally, the bleeding stopped after an hour.
It took an hour to stop the bleeding from such a small wound. What if the wound was larger?
Alexander silently stayed by her side, watching, his brows furrowing unconsciously.
Afterward, Owen asked her, "When did you find out about your blood clotting disorder?"
Victoria stood up, rubbed her left wrist with her right hand, and after a few seconds, said lightly, "Since I was a kid."
Owen was slightly stunned. "Is it hereditary?"
Victoria's almond-shaped eyes turned thoughtful. "Maybe."
Owen was speechless.
Just as Owen was about to ask about her family, he got a sharp, warning look from Alexander.
He immediately shut his mouth.
Not many people knew about Victoria's blood clotting disorder because her mother, Esme Young, had always told her to keep it a secret.
But now, she inexplicably trusted Alexander and the others.
"I'll prescribe some medicine for you to take home. Be careful not to get the wound wet," Owen said before leaving.
Once Owen left, only Alexander and Victoria were left inside the room.
"Wait here for me. I'll get the medicine and take you home."
Alexander's tone was gentle but firm.
Victoria looked into his deep, gentle eyes, so different from when they were at Mystic River Tavern.
For a moment, she couldn't tell which was the real him.
Seeing her staring at him without speaking, Alexander sighed inwardly. He reached out to hold her slender waist, and easily pulled her into his arms, while gently stroking the back of her head with his other hand.
She didn't struggle or move, just letting him hold her.
Inexplicably, she didn't mind being close to him.
Victoria's chin rested on Alexander's broad shoulder.
The light, pleasant scent on him lingered around her nose, giving her a slight sense of security.
Then she heard Alexander's low, magnetic voice by her ear, "Don't overthink. I want to know the real you."
Alexander's words once again touched Victoria's cold, hard heart.
How could he guess so accurately?
Alexander's pleasant voice continued in her ear, "Promise me, don't get hurt again, okay? It would make me sad."
Alexander's last words were spoken close to her ear, his breath tickling her skin, making not just her ears but also her heart feel ticklish.
Victoria had experienced this feeling twice with him, it was an indescribable sensation.
After a long while, a clear female voice sounded in his ear, "Okay."
Alexander seized the opportunity to say, "From now on, I'll protect you well. Try to rely on me, okay?"
In just a few days, he had already realized how skilled Victoria was at disguising herself. She appeared strong-willed, but in reality, it was all to protect herself.
"Okay," her concise response sounded in his ear again, and he held her a bit tighter.
This answer made him somewhat happy. Whether she genuinely agreed or was temporarily appeasing him, at least she didn't refuse, which was a good thing. Because in time, she would eventually let her guard down completely and wholeheartedly accept everything he offered.
"Wait here for three minutes?" he asked gently.
"Okay."
As soon as Alexander left, he encountered Dylan and Wesley in the hallway.
Dylan and Wesley greeted together, "Mr. Howard."
Alexander responded lightly, then turned to Wesley, "I'll take her home later. You can leave now."
Wesley remained silent.
He didn't dare to argue or ask more questions, only responding, "Okay, Mr. Howard. Then I'll leave Ms. Kennedy in your care."
Wesley was also a person with an impeccable sense of timing. After speaking, he turned and left without hesitation.
Not long ago, he had seen with his own eyes how gentle Alexander was to Victoria. There was no need to worry. Besides, Victoria was of marriageable age, and her engagement was broken off. So, it was time for her to find a new boyfriend.
However, Victoria's new boyfriend had a background so powerful it was suffocating.
Victoria was as wise and courageous as ever.
The Tudor family's Lucas was indeed unworthy of Victoria, so Wesley fully supported Alexander and Victoria being together!
Victoria, who was in the emergency room, didn't know that Wesley was already preparing to leave.
Dylan followed behind Alexander, quickly reporting what he had found.
"I don't want to see those three guys again!" Alexander said ruthlessly.
Alexander's deep eyes were filled with icy coldness, shadows of darkness under his eyelids, and his tone could freeze someone instantly.
"Understood."
Dylan silently mourned for those three.
Of all people to provoke, why provoke Alexander's wife?
Wasn't that courting death?
After this incident, Dylan deeply realized that Alexander truly liked Victoria and deserved respect.
Who would have thought that the usually aloof Alexander would fall in love at first sight?
And he had cunningly set up a prenuptial agreement, using it as an excuse to get closer to Victoria.
However, he was also admired Victoria's combat skills, as she had broken several ribs and left those people bruised and battered.
Just thinking about the scene and hearing the doctor's words made him a bit scared.
Women were not to be trifled with, especially strong ones.
Three minutes later.
Alexander returned to Victoria on time, holding her hand and leading her out of the hospital.
Not far behind them stood three people.
