Chapter 222 The One Who Should Be Getting All the Flak
The next morning.
Getting out of bed in winter? Man, that took some serious guts.
It was Saturday, and Victoria was still snuggled up in bed, refusing to budge. She even roped Alexander into staying with her.
Her small, soft body was all cozy in Alexander's warm embrace, making her feel super comfy.
She had woken up once around 6 AM because of him, but now she was back in dreamland.
With her face buried in Alexander's warm chest, she mumbled, "Babe, you're so warm, I don't wanna move."
Alexander held her, his chin resting on her head, and with a low, slightly raspy voice, he chuckled, "I don't mind staying here a bit longer, but my folks have been waiting downstairs for a while."
Victoria shot up, wide awake. "What did you say?"
Downstairs.
Saskia and Preston had shown up early.
They weren't in a rush, though.
They'd seen the news about the recent drama and heard some rumors. Today, Nathan sent them to check on things and talk about the guest list for next year's wedding, which needed to be sorted out early since there was a lot to follow up on.
Victoria quickly washed up and dragged Alexander out of the room.
She wasn't scared of anyone, except looking bad in front of the elders.
Seeing her all nervous and jittery, Alexander let her drag him along, walking behind her, smiling indulgently and shaking his head.
But as they hit the stairs, he held her back, saying, "Don't rush, take it easy, a few more minutes won't hurt."
Victoria glared at him. "This is all your fault! Why didn't you tell me your parents were coming over?"
Alexander looked at her innocently; it wasn't his fault. He had only gotten the message this morning when he woke up.
Alexander still gave in, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear, gently rubbing her earlobe with his thumb.
Then, with a soft, indulgent tone, he said, "It's all my fault. How do you wanna punish me?"
Victoria blurted out without thinking, "Punish you by making you stay with me all day."
Alexander smiled. "Alright, I'll stay with you."
Both of them showed up in the living room, rocking matching white casual sweatshirts and black and gray casual sweatpants.
They obediently greeted, "Dad, Mom."
Saskia looked at their matching outfits, very pleased.
However, Saskia was quite surprised. Alexander usually only wore suits and had never worn anything else. It was the first time she saw him in such casual clothes.
Victoria hadn't noticed they were wearing matching outfits at first because Alexander had picked out the clothes. She had hurriedly put them on without looking.
By the time she realized, it was too late.
Waking up late was already embarrassing, and showing intimacy in front of the elders was even more embarrassing.
"Since you're already wearing them, no need to be shy," Saskia, always straightforward, said, "Victoria, don't be embarrassed. It's okay to wake up late. I get it."
Victoria was silent for a moment.
She couldn't ignore Saskia's words, so she forced a smile and quickly changed the subject. "Dad, Mom, is there something you need?"
Preston answered first, "Nathan knows about the recent events and sent us to check on you. You've been through so much, why didn't you tell us? We only found out through others."
Preston was a man of quiet authority. Though his last sentence carried a hint of reproach, it was also out of concern and care, which she could sense.
Preston and Saskia were shocked when they saw the video on the housekeeper's phone.
Someone had been so brazen as to drive into people in broad daylight.
And it happened right in front of their company, which was outrageous. Nathan immediately ordered an investigation.
At the same time, they saw Victoria's agile and swift dodging skills. Her petite body could move so nimbly.
Before Victoria could speak, Saskia sternly said, "Even if you're agile, you shouldn't confront danger head-on."
"Mom, I'm sorry for worrying you," Victoria said, lowering her head slightly, not knowing how to face Saskia and Preston.
Victoria hadn't expected them to find out about this. She hadn't planned to tell the elders.
She felt a bit guilty for worrying her family, but more than that, she felt touched.
Before Victoria could fully process her emotions, she heard Saskia scold, "You're the one who should be getting all the flak, Alexander!"
