Chapter 20: Alexander's Confession

"I've fallen for you," Alexander said.

Victoria's mind went blank.

The sudden confession made her eyes widen in shock, her face showing pure disbelief.

She had no idea how to react to Alexander's unexpected declaration.

For a long moment, she just stood there, stunned.

They'd known each other for less than a week, and his feelings were a total surprise.

Even though they were legally married, there was no emotional connection between them.

Alexander saw her dazed expression and sighed inwardly.

His gaze stayed gentle as he said softly, "Don't feel pressured. You don't have to answer me right now. Take your time, and when you're ready, let me know."

Victoria didn't know what to say, so she just looked at him and listened.

"From the first moment I saw you by the lake, I felt this strange sense of familiarity. The second time we met, I wanted to get close to you, protect you, care for you. You're the only one who's ever made me feel this way."

As he spoke, he gently placed his hand on her cheek, his fingertips softly caressing her skin like she was a treasure.

"You find it hard to believe that I like you, don't you?" he asked.

Victoria blinked and nodded slightly.

Alexander chuckled softly, a smile playing on his lips. "I find it hard to believe myself."

"But I can't help it; I just want to be close to you, to be with you," he added.

His thumb gently slid across her cheek a few more times.

Victoria, who wasn't used to it, was slowly getting accustomed to his touch.

With her naturally cool voice, she asked, "Why?"

Alexander, with a passionate and deep gaze, answered, "There's no particular reason, just because it's you."

Victoria's heart skipped a beat again.

Having lived alone for many years since her mother's passing, she felt like she'd been in a dark abyss, experiencing the cold and warmth of human relationships.

She never imagined someone would love and protect her one day.

She knew she had to be strong to protect herself and those she cared about, and to fight back against those who would harm her.

As she was lost in thought, Alexander's pleasant voice sounded in her ear again.

"I just want you, to spend my life with you," he said with certainty.

Victoria's clear, watery eyes met his deep, passionate gaze.

Her lips moved, and she said, "I can't give you a certain answer yet."

Alexander wasn't surprised by her response, but he was still a bit disappointed.

"Alright, but in the meantime, don't refuse anything I do for you, okay?"

Victoria thought for a moment and nodded. "Okay."

The next second, before she could react, she was pulled into Alexander's embrace, his familiar scent filling her senses.

"Don't make me wait too long," Alexander's deep, magnetic voice came from above her head.

Victoria's head lay motionless on his chest, a slight smile playing on her lips, and said, "Okay."

The two of them had reached a silent understanding.

After resting for two days, Victoria returned to work.

Over the next week, every day at noon, Alexander would take her to Starlight Diner for lunch, and in the evenings, he would return to her apartment to cook for her.

One day, Victoria received another call from Clara.

Clara had been trying to reach her for the past few days, but Victoria had ignored her.

"What do you want?"
