Chapter 142 Since when has Alexander been so lenient?

At the hospital, Victoria read through all the info Thomas had found. Just as she finished, Alexander came back and sat next to her bed. He grabbed an apple and started peeling it with a fruit knife. His hands, long and slender, seemed too elegant for such a task.

Victoria watched him and said, "I need to tell you something."

"What is it?" Alexander asked, looking up.

"Yesterday, I got caught on purpose. It wasn't Kimberly or the bodyguards' fault. They weren't negligent, so don't punish them," Victoria explained.

Alexander paused, then said, "Alright, as you wish."

Just then, Owen walked in wearing a white coat. He was surprised to see Alexander peeling an apple. He didn't expect someone so powerful and privileged to do such a mundane task. Clearly, Alexander really cared for Victoria.

Owen was there to change Alexander's bandages. He had been waiting for a while, but Alexander hadn't shown up. Among all his patients, Alexander was the most stubborn and least concerned about his own health. Yet, his physical condition was remarkable. He had been shot and was already up and about in less than four days, with only one fever.

Both Alexander and Victoria had faced serious danger recently. Alexander had been shot, and Victoria had been in a car with busted brakes and a bomb. Yet, both were fine. Victoria had only sprained her foot, which was incredible given the circumstances. Her calmness and resilience were impressive.

Owen said, "Victoria's test results are out. Nothing serious, just rest her right foot. You can go home; no need to stay here."

Victoria was relieved. She hated the hospital smell. "Alright, thank you," she said.

Alexander was about to object, but Victoria spoke first, so he stayed quiet.

Victoria then asked, "Mr. Rodriguez, can you check Alexander's wound for me?"

Alexander had said it was fine, but she was still worried. Owen was surprised she knew about it. Alexander paused, then handed her the apple slices he had cut. "I'm fine. It's just a minor injury. Didn't you see it last night?" he said gently.

Owen thought to himself, 'Minor injury? The bullet almost went through his shoulder blade, and he calls it minor. Only someone like him could downplay it like that.'

"Victoria, his injury is indeed minor. Don't worry. I exaggerated to mislead certain people in the Howard family," Owen explained.

Seeing Alexander looking fine, Victoria didn't push it.

Owen then used Neil's injury as an excuse to call Alexander away.

"Wait here. I'll take you home soon," Alexander said.

"Okay," Victoria nodded.

At Serenity Grove Manor, Sawyer and Molly were shocked to see Alexander carrying Victoria, her foot in a cast.

"What happened?" they asked, worried.

Victoria, feeling a bit embarrassed, explained, "Sawyer, Molly, don't worry. I just sprained my foot."

Ignatius came out of his room and saw them.

"Victoria," he called, running downstairs. He had worried all night when she didn't come back and only got her message this morning, which didn't mention her injury.

Seeing her cast, Ignatius frowned. "What happened to your leg?"

"I'm fine. Just a sprain. Don't worry," Victoria reassured him.

Ignatius reached for her hand, but Alexander quickly moved, giving him a sharp look.

Ignatius fell silent, as did Victoria.

"She needs rest. Don't disturb her unless it's important," Alexander said coldly, carrying her to the bedroom.

Ignatius, though a bit off mentally, wasn't stupid. He knew Alexander's words were aimed at him.

Victoria looked at Ignatius standing pitifully in the living room and said, "He's still a kid. Can't you be a bit friendlier?"

"He's nineteen, not a kid. Besides, he never treats me well. I'm not going to indulge him," Alexander replied calmly.

Victoria was puzzled. Alexander wasn't usually petty, so why was he competing with Ignatius?

Then he said seriously, "When he acknowledges me as your husband, I might consider being nicer."

She sighed. Ignatius was even more stubborn than she was. It seemed Alexander would have to wait a long time. As long as they didn't fight, it was fine.

At noon, Kimberly returned to Serenity Grove Manor. She was surprised to see Alexander there.

"Mrs. Howard, Mr. Howard," Kimberly greeted respectfully, holding a metal box. She handed it to Victoria.

"Mrs. Howard, as per your instructions, we searched Ethan's place and found this USB drive behind a cabinet," Kimberly said.

Victoria took it. There really was something. She had only guessed and asked Kimberly to search carefully.

"Thank you. You can go now. And there's no need for any punishment. Alexander said it wasn't your fault," Victoria said.

Kimberly looked incredulously at the silent Alexander.

Then Alexander said, "Listen to her. Whatever she says goes."

Kimberly was stunned. Since when did Alexander get so soft? Who would have thought he'd turn into such a doting husband?

"Go on," Alexander said.

"Okay," Kimberly replied, then left.
