Chapter 14: Alexander Takes Care of Victoria

"Is he serious?" Caleb asked, one hand in his pocket and the other on his chin, looked puzzled.

Owen, adjusting his glasses with his long, elegant fingers, nodded firmly. "Yeah, he is."

Garrett, hands shoved in his pockets, shrugged with a half-doubtful smirk. "Hope he's not just messing around."

The next day.

Victoria lay in bed, her head pounding and her body weak. She groggily woke up, texted Wesley that she wouldn't be coming to the office, and drifted back to sleep.

Not long after, her phone buzzed incessantly beside her pillow, forcing her awake again.

She squinted, reached out, and answered the call.

"What's up?" she asked groggily.

Alexander, fresh out of a meeting and sitting in his office, heard her weak, raspy voice. He glanced at the clock on his computer—11:30 AM.

'She's still sleeping? And why does she sound so off?' he wondered.

Worried, Alexander asked, "It's me. Are you home?"

Victoria, barely coherent, only knew her head felt like it was splitting open. The familiar voice on the other end made her respond casually, but she didn't hang up.

Alexander called her name a few more times, but she didn't answer. He could hear her faint breathing through the line.

Frowning, he got up and left his office in a hurry.

Dylan and Marcus, about to report on their work, saw Alexander rush out with a worried look.

'What's going on?' they wondered.

Before they could ask, Alexander barked, "Call Owen and tell him to get to the North Courtyard apartment within half an hour."

The two exchanged glances. North Courtyard?

Did something happen to Victoria?

At the North Courtyard apartment.

"How is she?" Alexander asked, his face tense.

Owen had just finished checking her wound and changing the dressing.

"Her wound's infected, causing a fever," he said seriously.

"Didn't you treat her wound yesterday?" Alexander snapped. "What, your skills aren't up to par, Owen?"

Owen, usually calm and collected, was rarely this irritated. But Alexander had managed to push his buttons.

"Ask her!" Owen, known for his good temper, was visibly annoyed.

Alexander glanced at Victoria, her face flushed, lips pale, eyes closed, and brows furrowed in discomfort. He then looked back at Owen, his expression dark, as if to say, "How do I ask?"

Owen sighed, reminding himself, 'I'm a doctor. I don't get mad at patients or temporarily irrational people.'

"I told her yesterday not to get it wet. She didn't listen and now she's got a fever. Who would've thought someone who can fight so well would have such a weak constitution, getting a high fever from just a bit of water," Owen said, his handsome face stern and disapproving.

If it weren't for his friendship with Alexander and his medical ethics, he would've left long ago!

"Then give her a fever-reducing shot," Alexander said coldly, eyeing Victoria's furrowed brows.

Owen, peeling off his disposable gloves, shook his head. "I can't."

"Why not?" Alexander demanded.

Owen thought back to the blood test results from last night, which had left him stunned. "She has a clotting disorder and a unique constitution. Even a small needle prick could cause excessive bleeding. She's already weak, and it would only make things worse."

Not only did she have a clotting disorder, but he could tell that her blood was also unique, though he didn't have all the results yet.

"Is there no other way?" Alexander pressed.

"There is."

"Tell me!"

Owen said slowly, "Use alcohol."

"What do you mean?"

Owen explained, "Mix alcohol with water and wipe her neck, armpits, inner thighs, and abdomen. These areas allow the alcohol to evaporate quickly."

Alexander's face darkened as he listened.

Later.

Owen sat alone on the living room sofa, still looking gentle and refined. But if you looked closely, you could see the surprise in his eyes behind his glasses. He stared intently at the closed bedroom door.

Earlier, he had asked Alexander, "Should I get a female nurse to wipe her down?"

But Alexander had replied, "No need."

He then asked, "Then who will do it? It's just us here."

Alexander calmly said, "I will."

Owen questioned, "Have you won her over?"

Then he heard the shocking response, "She's my wife!"

Owen was completely taken aback. Yesterday, they had been betting on when Alexander would win Victoria over, thinking she would be hard to get. But who knew they were already married?

Who could have guessed!

He silently picked up his phone and sent a message to Garrett and Caleb in their group chat: [Bet canceled.]

Caleb quickly replied: [Why?]

Owen: [Because it's pointless.]

Suddenly, there was the sound of Dylan fixing the door.

Owen looked over and remembered seeing the door's keypad lock completely broken when he had arrived. His mouth twitched.

'How interesting. They're married, but not living together, and he doesn't even know his wife's room code? Had to break in?'

Soon, the bedroom door opened, and Alexander walked out gracefully.

Alexander had taken off his jacket, wearing a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his strong arms. The shirt was tucked into his black pants, showing off his broad shoulders and narrow waist, and his long legs wrapped in black fabric, highlighting his excellent physique.

But as he approached, Owen noticed the damp hair at his temples. He watched silently.

When Alexander sat down, Owen said, "If her fever doesn't go down in an hour, wipe her down again."

Alexander lifted his eyelids and looked at him. Despite his slightly disheveled appearance, his authoritative presence remained.

Owen wasn't afraid of him. As a doctor, Alexander had to follow his instructions.

After a few seconds of silence, Alexander pressed his thin lips together and said, "I understand."

Owen hesitated for a moment. He had a question he had been wanting to ask but was hesitant.

Alexander noticed and said, "What is it?"

Owen then asked openly, "Have you two had sex?"

Alexander was speechless. He narrowed his eyes, his handsome face expressionless.

Owen observed for a moment and guessed the situation.
