Chapter 310 Going Against the Grain
Alexander hesitated for the first time.
Hesitation during negotiations was his biggest no-no; he was always decisive. No matter who asked the question, he would answer straight up. The word "hesitation" just wasn't in his vocabulary. But this time, he hesitated.
Victoria, not hearing his response, asked, "Is this question hard to answer?"
Alexander's sharply defined eyebrows raised slightly. "Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?"
Victoria stayed quiet. The way he asked made her feel like she didn't need his answer anymore; she already knew it. She suddenly felt a bit upset. It seemed like the first time Alexander had disliked her.
It wasn't entirely his fault; even she couldn't stand her oily hair, let alone someone with mild OCD like him. The fact that he could kiss her without hesitation just now was already pretty brave.
Alexander noticed her slightly lowered head and the frustration in her eyes. He smiled slightly, watching her head lower more and more. He freed one hand and used his thumb and forefinger to lift her chin, making her look up again.
"I haven't finished speaking yet, why are you so down?" Alexander asked, his voice low and seductive, with a teasing tone.
Alexander's voice was super pleasant to hear, and even though she heard it every day, she never got tired of it. In fact, the more she heard it, the more she liked it.
"Alright, then go ahead. I'm listening," Victoria replied obediently, switching to a sweet and delicate demeanor in front of him in an instant.
Alexander's thumb gently stroked her delicate skin. "From what I understand, it's normal for girls not to wash their hair for two days," Alexander said.
She blinked and let out a muffled sound in agreement.
Alexander's deep eyes filled with affection as he glanced at her hair again and said seriously, "How about you give me a kiss in return? I haven't washed mine for two days either."
Victoria's pupils widened slightly, then she laughed. She completely forgot her earlier low spirits and frustration. She was completely amused by his unexpected response. The gloom in her heart was dispelled by his joke.
"Who would've thought that the usually aloof Mr. Howard could be so humorous?" she teased with a smile.
Seeing her smile, Alexander also smiled. "I only aim to make Mrs. Howard happy." Alexander's lips curved into a smile, and his handsome eyebrows were full of joy.
It seemed that his happiness came from the Victoria in his arms, and indeed it did. When she was happy, he was happy. When she was unhappy, he would find ways to make her happy.
She grabbed the sides of his shirt at his waist, stood on tiptoe, and kissed his thin lips. With a smile on her face, she said, "I still prefer kissing here."
The next second, Alexander said, "But I just kissed your hair."
Victoria said, "You didn't need to say that; I can't dislike myself."
Alexander retorted, "So, you dislike me?"
Victoria smacked her lips, wondering if his mind always worked that quickly, but she wasn't one to be easily outdone either.
"No, it's because you're too tall, and I can't reach," she quickly replied.
Alexander chuckled. "I'll take that as a compliment. You know, for you, I can bend down."
Victoria's heart skipped a beat at his flirtatious words. She almost agreed, but then she said, "No, not in public; it's not appropriate."
"It's to fulfill your wish. I don't think it's embarrassing," Alexander responded smoothly.
Victoria insisted, "But I think it's embarrassing. Anyway, I don't want to."
"You little ingrate, you just don't like me anymore," Alexander said, reaching out and gently tapping her small, straight nose.
Victoria countered, "I never said that. Don't put words in my mouth."
By the roadside, Dylan and Marcus stood by a Maybach, watching them banter, their lips twitching.
In the past, Alexander hated having his photos circulated online, not even allowing a side profile or back view.
Now, he wished to be photographed every day and have the media publicize his loving daily life with Victoria.
Dylan and Marcus really couldn't understand Alexander's sudden change.
In the evening, Victoria told Alexander everything she had discussed with Christopher and Simon today. And Alexander quickly grasped what she wanted to express.
"You had a feeling that Esme is still alive?" Alexander asked.
Victoria lay on the sofa, her head resting on his thigh. She looked up at him and nodded. That feeling was strong, and it wasn't the first time she had suspected it. This time, Simon's words directly enlightened her, and the video indeed featured someone everyone had overlooked.
"If it's true, how will you face it?" Alexander looked down at Victoria, one hand casually resting on the back of the sofa, the other gently stroking her earlobe.
He asked the question that was on Victoria's mind. If it was true, how would she face it? She had no answer. She didn't understand why Esme hadn't sought her out if she was really alive.
Alexander didn't let her get lost in her thoughts about this matter; instead, he tried to divert her attention. The best distraction, he knew, was through their intimate connection.
While Victoria was still deep in thought, her lips were suddenly captured, and half her breath was stolen away. It was a tender, lingering kiss, a passionate dance of lips and tongues.
On the sofa in the living room, an indescribable scene of beauty unfolded. Alexander sat, leaning slightly forward, his lips entwined with Victoria's. One hand encircled her waist, the other gently caressed her cheek.
Victoria tilted her head back, revealing her delicate jawline. Her slender arms, like vines, had somehow wrapped around Alexander's neck, and one of her legs was slightly bent.
Fortunately, after Landon's previous incident, Alexander had explicitly stated that no one was allowed to come to the main building after 8:30 PM.
"Honey, my neck is sore," Victoria whispered during a brief pause.
Hearing her soft, aggrieved voice, Alexander let out a low chuckle. With his forehead against hers, his voice hoarse and tender, he asked, "Alright, let's change your position."
She was well aware of the desire in his eyes, and she knew her own reaction.
Before she could react, she was lifted into the air. She instinctively let out a small, surprised cry.
In the master bedroom, the air, initially cool, gradually became thinner and warmer. Victoria's thoughts were now completely taken away by Alexander, leaving no time to think about the things that had been troubling her.
In this aspect, she was always the one being teased and the one begging for mercy. That night, the beautiful sound of harmony once again played rhythmically and melodiously
The next day, Victoria's plans were disrupted by Saskia's arrival. After she and Alexander completed their wedding, the matters of the Howard family would be directly handed over to her. So Saskia came to help her get acquainted with some of the Howard family affairs in advance.
By the end of the day, Victoria was questioning her life for the first time. These matters were more complicated and tedious than managing a company, even more exhausting and frustrating than fighting a dozen matches.
She suddenly didn't want to be the lady of the Howard family anymore. What should she do?
Then she directly told Alexander her thoughts.
Meanwhile, Alexander was still at the office, reviewing some documents when his phone buzzed with a new message.
