Chapter 315 She Has a Fear of Marriage
Owen slumped on the couch, staring at Lila with a serious look.
Lila sat cross-legged, hugging a pillow, and sighed. "I've told you a million times, I don't want to get married."
"Why not?" Owen pressed.
"Marriage is the grave of love. Isn't that enough?" Lila shot back.
Owen's temples throbbed, veins popping. He never thought this would be the biggest hurdle in his life.
He took a deep breath and asked, "So, do you think our love will vanish if we get married, or do you think I don't love you enough?"
Lila thought for a moment. "Neither. Honestly, you've been great. I just don't want to get married." She added, "Aren't we doing fine as we are?"
She didn't tell him how much the idea of marriage freaked her out.
She knew Owen cared for her, but she was just scared.
Owen listened and got lost in thought.
He had a hunch that Lila was scared of marriage.
He used to think she just wasn't ready, but her recent words made it clear. She wasn't unprepared; she never even considered it.
She was really against the idea. He remembered their past talks; every time marriage came up, she got defensive, always finding a way to shut it down.
But her family was always happy, so it wasn't that.
If it wasn't about him or her family, what was it? He needed to figure it out.
But he had to be subtle. From what he could tell, she didn't even realize she was resistant to marriage.
"Fine, I won't bring it up again." He finally gave in.
Lila's eyes lit up, and she smiled, "Really? So you won't try to get me pregnant either? No tricks?"
Owen looked at her smile, feeling both annoyed and amused, but he couldn't push her.
As long as she stayed with him, that was enough.
He lowered his head, rubbed his forehead, and said, "I won't."
Then he added, "Come here, I have a headache, give me a massage."
As long as it wasn't about marriage or babies, Lila would do anything for him.
"Okay." She tossed the pillow aside and ran over.
She hopped onto the couch, knelt beside him, and bragged, "I'm really good at this, thanks to my grandpa. He's old and always has headaches, so I got really good at this."
Owen glanced at her. "I'm only like this because of you."
Lila laughed. "Oh, I didn't expect I could still be a headache for you."
She turned his head to face her, placed her fingers on his temples, and gently massaged, asking, "Is the pressure okay?"
Seeing her smile, even if he was mad, he couldn't stay that way.
"How about you apply pressure somewhere else?"
Lila heard Owen's low, husky voice and asked innocently, "What do you mean?"
Owen wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer, leaving just a tiny gap between them.
Lila, who had been kneeling, straightened up in surprise, her hands slipping from his temples to his broad shoulders.
Their breaths mingled, brushing against each other's skin.
In that moment, Lila got what he meant.
When it came to this, she was way more confident than Victoria, never feeling shy about it.
She blinked and said, "Didn't you have four surgeries today?"
She was hinting that he might be too tired for this.
Owen, with his gold-rimmed glasses, looked incredibly alluring. His eyes behind the glasses had a dangerous glint.
"What, you doubting my stamina?" Owen asked, squinting.
Lila, unfazed, said, "Not really, I just mean, what if?"
Owen took off his glasses and smirked. "Really? There's no 'what if' with me!"
Owen's vibe totally changed with or without glasses. But whether he was suave and charming or wild and seductive, she liked both.
As soon as he finished talking, he pushed her down on the couch.
Owen's kisses were possessive, like she was his and his alone.
Even in the heat of the moment, Lila didn't forget to remind him to use a condom.
A few days later, Victoria was supposed to visit Harmonious Convalesce Court to spend the day with Thalia, but she got a call halfway through.
After lunch, she left.
"Mrs. Howard, this isn't the way back to Serenity Grove Manor," Kimberly, sitting in the passenger seat, said, confused.
Victoria replied, "We're heading to Syeattel."
Kimberly thought, no wonder Victoria didn't let her drive today.
She always felt uneasy when Victoria didn't let her drive, like something big was about to go down.
Meanwhile, after Victoria left Harmonious Convalesce Court, several people entered in waves.
Syeattel.
Imperial Club.
Ellington's private room.
"People from the 103 organization hijacked a gold mine from a team and killed everyone, and it was brutal," Ellington reported. "Turns out, the owner of the gold mine is someone named Howard, rumored to be from the Howard family, named Alexander."
Victoria frowned slightly, not because of the name Alexander, but because she was puzzled why the 103 organization would target this gold mine.
But Ellington misunderstood, thinking she frowned because of the name.
After she got married, Ellington had someone look into who her husband was.
It turned out to be Alexander.
Alexander wasn't just a simple businessman; he had a dark side.
So he said directly, "I'm telling you, Alexander is not a good guy. I also found out he's involved in a lot of shady stuff, not just a business mogul as he seems."
Victoria gave him a cool look, and Ellington felt a bit guilty.
He knew she realized he had investigated her.
"So you think I'm a good person?" Victoria asked.
"And you think you're any better?" she added.
