Chapter 353 Letting Go of Shame to Marry You
Derek got out of the car, saw Victoria, and instinctively shouted, "That lady is so beautiful."
Clara looked over and saw Victoria smiling in the arms of a tall man. It was Alexander, the renowned business prodigy. He exuded noble elegance and an intimidating presence, with every move radiating authority.
Both Alexander and Victoria, being incredibly perceptive, almost simultaneously sensed someone staring at them.
Then Clara locked eyes with Victoria, and at that moment, Clara's heart trembled. She thought, 'She's actually fine. So, Christopher failed. No wonder I couldn't reach him. I haven't found any trace of Victoria recently. I even thought she was dead, which is why Esme showed up. Victoria's gaze is cold and enigmatic. Does she know her mother isn't dead? Even though Esme subtly protects her, how could a mother abandon her child for twenty years? If Esme truly cares, she should take Victoria away, not leave her with the Kennedys to be mistreated.'
Alexander merely glanced indifferently and then walked towards the entrance of Starlight Diner with Victoria in his arms. His strong arms looked reassuring.
Clara never understood how Victoria ended up with someone as outstanding as Alexander. She always thought she was outshining Victoria, but lately, it felt like she was jinxed and everything was going wrong.
In the past, Clara would often show off in front of Victoria, whether on purpose or not, and Victoria always seemed indifferent. Clara used to think Victoria was just being jealous, but now she realized this was nothing like she had imagined.
Clara thought, 'Why does Victoria get to marry someone as amazing as Alexander, while I'm stuck with an idiot like Derek? It isn't fair!'
"Derek, who do you think is prettier, her or me?" Clara suddenly asked Derek out of the blue.
Derek hesitated for a moment and looked at Clara cautiously.
Clara secretly despised him but kept a sweet smile. "It's okay, go ahead and say it. I won't get mad."
Seeing Clara smile, Derek's nervousness vanished. He replied, "Both are beautiful, but that lady just now is even prettier."
Clara took a deep breath to maintain her gentle smile. Inwardly, she cursed, "What a fool! What does he know!"
"Do you want to be with her?" Clara continued to ask.
Derek scratched his head and said, "But I have you."
Clara thought, 'This dumbass actually has some standards!'
Clara kept smiling and continued to coax, "That's right. But I also promised you, as long as you behave, I'll give you everything you want."
Derek didn't understand why she was saying this, looking confused.
Clara asked, "Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Derek could only nod foolishly. "I understand."
They arrived at Starlight Diner before their parents.
With a plan in mind, Clara felt happy just thinking about it, so her smile was genuine.
Nico and Daisy had been worried along the way about whether Derek and Clara would feel uncomfortable being alone together.
But from the looks of it, both of them were smiling, indicating they were getting along well.
Previously, Nico and Daisy had arranged many matchmaking dates for Derek, but none of them lasted, and Derek didn't like any of them.
Derek was only somewhat satisfied with Clara, so they contacted the Kennedy family.
Though things had happened with Clara, the Astor family didn't mind as long as Derek was happy.
On the other side, Alexander and his group took the exclusive elevator directly to the top-floor private room.
"Honey, do you know the man next to Clara?" Victoria suddenly asked curiously in the elevator.
Alexander raised an eyebrow, a hint of jealousy flashing in his eyes. She was actually looking at another man!
Seeing Alexander's gloomy expression, she laughed. "I'm just curious about what Clara is plotting again."
Alexander knew what Esme had done to the Kennedy family; Dylan had informed him yesterday.
The Kennedy family was now hanging by a thread. If they could secure some financial support, they might make it through; otherwise...
So, for the Kennedy family, the quickest way to get funds was through marriage alliances.
And according to Dylan's investigation, the Kennedy family had already latched onto the Astor family.
The Astor family, though not a major powerhouse, was wealthy. Plus, the couple loved their intellectually challenged child, so they didn't care about the money.
Alexander always fulfilled Victoria's requests and told her everything he knew.
Victoria blinked her eyes in disbelief that Oliver and his son would treat Clara this way.
Weren't they once the apple of their eye?
Now, for the sake of the Kennedy Group, they were really going to any lengths.
"If I hadn't married you, I would probably be the one in the marriage alliance," Victoria muttered.
Alexander looked down at her. "It's impossible."
Victoria asked, "Why?"
Alexander replied, "First, you wouldn't compromise. Second, I would have found you before then, so you would still be mine, and they wouldn't have the chance."
She smiled charmingly. "Actually, I'm quite curious. How were you so sure I would agree to marry you? After all, we only met a few times as children." She looked at Alexander's face, which was enviably noble and elegant. "And I barely have any impression of you."
They reached the top floor.
Alexander stepped out, holding Victoria, and confidently said, "Because no one else is worthy of you but me!"
"Alexander, where's your shame?"
"Marrying you means I can't let shame hold me back."
Victoria was speechless.
Dylan and the others behind them just ignored their conversation; they were used to it.
"Mr. Penrose, Ms. Kennedy's health is currently recovering well." Nicholas reported Victoria's health status to Esme almost every other day.
"Ok, that's good," Esme replied.
Nicholas looked at Esme, hesitant to speak.
They knew someone was tailing them when they visited the Kennedy family that day. Eric figured out those people were from Alexander's side. Since Alexander already knew about Esme, he wouldn't have sent them again, so it was obvious who did. But days had passed without any movement, which didn't make sense.
