Chapter 239 This is outrageous
Alexander caught the slight panic in Victoria's eyes, chuckled, and gave her a quick kiss.
He let out a joyful laugh, his deep, magnetic voice adding to the charm. "I'm really digging your answer."
He started the car again, one hand on the wheel, the other holding hers, not wanting to let go.
She was used to it by now. Whenever he drove and she was in the passenger seat, he'd always interlock their fingers.
After a bit, she still couldn't drop the question she had asked earlier and brought it up again.
She just couldn't wrap her head around Grant's behavior. If he had a side chick, why not just get a divorce?
Was it really fun to mess with each other like that?
Lila had filled Victoria in about Marlowe and Grant, and later Alexander had, too. But Marlowe didn't deserve any of this. She wasn't at fault.
Did Marlowe have to suffer because the car in Abigail's accident was hers?
The whole thing was too far-fetched; Victoria couldn't get it, let alone accept it.
Seeing the hidden, deep-seated bitter smile on Marlowe's face, Victoria felt a pang of heartache. She knew Marlowe liked Grant.
Marlowe said she was fine, but inside, she was hurting big time.
Maybe Marlowe had gotten used to it. But sometimes, getting used to something could be a scary thing.
Victoria felt super lucky to have met Alexander.
To others, he was cold and indifferent, but with her, he was always so gentle and attentive.
Alexander's thoughtfulness sometimes felt too touching to be true, but Alexander was the real deal.
Even though Victoria's family didn't love her, having him was enough.
Alexander squeezed her soft fingers; he didn't expect her to be so hung up on this question.
He started speaking slowly, "Grant's got a cold personality. Abigail's death was always a hard blow on him and turned him into a gloomy and grumpy man."
Victoria got it. She thought Alexander was already cold enough, but meeting Grant was a whole different level. Both had a strong oppressive vibe, but Grant had an extra chill.
Alexander told her a lot. After Abigail's death, Grant was in a bad place for a while and almost died, which showed he really loved Abigail.
"Actually, there was another thing back then." Alexander paused, and Victoria looked at him curiously, waiting for him to continue.
Alexander said seriously, "I heard that Abigail's car accident was set up by Marlowe because she didn't want to see Abigail and Grant together. This was hushed up back then. Marlowe's dad had to swallow his pride to get it sorted."
Victoria's eyes widened. "No way!"
She instinctively defended Marlowe. "I haven't known Marlowe long, but I can tell she's not the type to do something so nasty."
Alexander pursed his lips and said nothing.
Victoria was stuck on Alexander's last sentence; it was just too wild.
Cleveland Clinic, outside the operating room.
Kevin looked at Grant, who had taken off his blood-stained coat and was sitting gloomily on the bench outside the operating room.
Kevin sighed silently. Just now downstairs, he thought he saw Marlowe. He wasn't sure if he should mention it.
Then Kevin glanced again at the operating room door, still lit with a red light.
Half an hour ago, Kevin had gone with Grant to a party. At the party, an ex-employee Grant had fired years ago sneaked in. Since then, no company had dared to hire him. The guy was bitter and wanted revenge. He disguised himself as a waiter and tried to stab Grant with a knife hidden under a tray. But Michelle, who was standing beside him, took the hit.
Otherwise, it would be Grant lying in the operating room now.
Grant glanced indifferently at Kevin, who was hesitating to speak.
Grant blurted out, "Just spit it out."
Kevin swallowed and said, "Mr. Scott, I think I just saw Mrs. Scott in the hospital."
Grant's body instantly stiffened. For some reason, an unusual emotion stirred in his heart, but his expression stayed cold, and his voice was, too. "What happened to her?"
Kevin responded quickly, having asked earlier, "I asked around, and it seems she got some anti-inflammatory meds. I heard her face was swollen from smacks."
Grant frowned instantly. Marlowe was smacked? Then why didn't she call him?
Kevin continued, "I also saw Alexander and Victoria there."
The implication was that Grant could call and ask what had happened.
