Chapter 116 The News of Anthony's Serious Injury Sparks Heated Discussion
Anthony got up, clutching his chest, and yelled, "You dare kick me? Tonight, you'll regret it!"
He barked at his crew, "Go, tie her up!"
Out of nowhere, a bunch of guys in black suits showed up in the bar, forming a protective semicircle around Victoria and her friends.
Anthony's crew froze in their tracks.
These new guys were big, muscular, and looked like serious bodyguards, which caught everyone's attention in the bar. The loud music had masked the commotion until now.
Anthony, still holding his chest, stepped forward and sneered at the bodyguards, "Move! You can't stop me. If you want to stay in Jakarda City, get out of my way."
The lead bodyguard didn't flinch and shot back, "Who stays in Jakarda City is still up for debate!"
The whole bar was stunned. Even the bodyguards were talking back now?
Everyone knew Anthony was the Barnes family's golden boy, always getting his way. The Barnes family was powerful and influential in Jakarda City, with ties in politics. No one dared to cross them. Anthony had always been a bully, untouchable because of his family's clout.
No one expected anyone in Jakarda City to stand up to Anthony.
This was the first time Anthony met someone more defiant than him, and it was a bodyguard, which made him even angrier.
Victoria turned to Marlowe, "Did you call these guys?"
Marlowe shook her head, "No, I didn't." She was just as confused.
The lead bodyguard then turned to Victoria and said respectfully, "Mrs. Howard, Mr. Howard sent us to protect you. He said if there's any trouble, let us handle it. You and your friends should leave."
Victoria was surprised. They were Alexander's men?
"You've been following me?" she asked.
"Yeah," the lead guy confirmed.
No wonder she'd felt like someone was tailing her lately, but it never seemed threatening, so she let it slide.
Marlowe quickly realized these guys were Alexander's doing.
Victoria didn't want a scene, so they started to leave.
Anthony shouted, "Stop them!"
His crew tried to move but were quickly taken down by the bodyguards, left kneeling and helpless.
Victoria and Marlowe helped Lila and headed straight for the door, ignoring the chaos behind them.
The next morning, the news reported that Anthony Barnes was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Victoria had spent most of the night looking after a drunk Lila, barely getting any sleep.
At the Mayo Clinic in Jakarda City, in a fancy VIP room.
"Anthony, does it hurt?" Rebecca asked, worried.
Rebecca Wallace, the doting wife of the Barnes family head, sat by his bed. Anthony's arrogance was largely her doing.
Anthony looked miserable, with a bruised face, casts on his left leg and right hand, and a neck brace. He could barely move, but at least he wasn't in danger.
He struggled to speak, feeling both hurt and angry. In his frustration, he strained his neck, wincing in pain.
Rebecca quickly stopped him. "Don't move, speak slowly. Your father and I will get revenge." She cursed, "Whoever did this to Anthony will pay. The Barnes family will make sure they rot in prison!"
"Messing with Anthony, they must have a death wish," she fumed.
"Adrian, you have to avenge Anthony. This can't slide," she said, turning to Adrian Barnes, her eyes blazing with anger.
Adrian, the head of the Barnes family, looked at his son, seething with rage.
But he was also furious with Anthony. He knew what had happened last night; Anthony had started it. Now, they hadn't even figured out who these people were, and with the Barnes family was in the middle of important deals, provoking the wrong people could ruin everything.
"If he hadn't started it, would he be in this mess?" Adrian shouted, "It's because you've spoiled him! He acts without thinking!"
Rebecca stayed silent.
