Chapter 187 Why does everyone want to have dinner today?
"What? Dinner with me? Aren't you in Aidamore?" Victoria was kinda thrown off.
She'd just rolled back to Serenity Grove Manor and was about to hop out of the car when Bryan Sanders hit her up.
Bryan let out a whistle on the other end. "Nah, I'm in Rihegde right now."
Without missing a beat, Victoria shot back, "I'm busy."
No way she could drag him along; it'd be a total mess.
"Seriously? I hardly ever come here, and you're just gonna blow me off?" Bryan sounded a bit hurt.
Victoria rubbed her nose, feeling a bit stuck. "I got stuff to do. You go have fun for a few days, and I'll catch up with you later."
"You're not going to that conference, are you?" Bryan nailed it.
Victoria made a noise of agreement and then casually asked, "What are you doing in Rihegde?"
"Looking for someone," Bryan said, his voice dropping. "Heard she'd be in Rihegde, so I came. Thought I'd swing by to check on you and brag about it when I get back."
Victoria went quiet for a sec.
She didn't know who he was after, but she didn't wanna waste more time chatting.
"Then go find her." Victoria said, ice-cold.
Back home, she grabbed a file and was about to head out when Alexander called.
Alexander's voice, smooth as silk, came through the phone. "Where you at?"
"Home, about to head out. What's up?" she asked, walking to the garage.
She'd just reached the car and was about to open the door when she paused. "What did you say?"
Alexander patiently repeated, "Grant's got a dinner tonight, wants us at Starlight Diner."
Victoria was really bugged. How could it be such a coincidence?
Was today some special day or what?
Alexander picked up on her hesitation and asked, "Got other plans?"
He knew her too well.
Victoria filled him in on the situation.
"Alan invited you to dinner?" Alexander asked.
Out of everything she said, Alexander only latched onto that name, sounding ticked off.
Victoria knew he was jealous and said, "It's not just him. Billy and Uncle Adrian will be there too."
"So if I hadn't called, you weren't gonna tell me?" Alexander raised an eyebrow, his tone low and a bit frosty.
"Not at all. I was planning to pick you up from your office when it was time. I wasn't gonna go alone. How could I leave my handsome hubby behind? Plus, I'm counting on you to pay." She lowered her voice, making it sound sweet and playful, which was pretty nice to hear.
At 7 PM, up in the top-floor private room at Starlight Diner, the vibe wasn't as awkward as Victoria thought it'd be. Adrian, being an elder and all, was also a businessman, and everyone else there was too, so there was plenty to chat about, keeping things from getting weird.
Alan and Ruth hit it off, finding out they went to the same university, which gave them even more to gab about.
Ruth wasn't shy or anything; she was straight-up and had this fresh, clean vibe.
"Hey, how'd you get all these big shots together?" Lila tugged on Victoria's sleeve and whispered in her ear.
Everyone at the table was a big deal, with a combined net worth pushing $100 billion. Alexander's net worth alone was something else.
Victoria shrugged, saying she didn't know either; they just ended up together.
"Where's Marlowe?" Lila asked. She'd texted Marlowe, but got no reply.
Victoria shook her head; she had no clue.
Both of them knew about Grant showing up last night, and Marlowe's no-show now was kinda worrying.
"Why don't you ask Grant?" Victoria raised an eyebrow and suggested quietly. After all, Grant had set up tonight's dinner, but he hadn't brought Marlowe along.
Lila shook her head, her eyes flashing with fear. "No way."
She still remembered Grant's scary vibe from last night, and she'd learned from Owen that Marlowe had signed the divorce papers and bailed while Grant was on a business trip, without him knowing.
She was stunned at that time and kinda admired Marlowe's guts.
"What are you two whispering about?" Owen look at Victoria and Lila, who were huddled together.
Alexander, who'd been talking about the recent economic market with Adrian, also turned his head at Owen's words and saw Lila holding Victoria's arm.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, and Lila quickly let go of Victoria's arm, feeling a chill.
Adrian had only found out tonight that Victoria was married, and her husband was Alexander. To be honest, he was really surprised.
Especially seeing that everyone in the private room was top-notch in their fields, with crazy abilities and influence, and heirs to several major families.
If it weren't for Victoria, he would've thought he was in the wrong room.
And through his observations and conversations, he found that the two were indeed a good match. Although Victoria's current influence didn't quite match the Howard family, he didn't mind backing her with the Barnes family. Although the Barnes family wasn't as powerful as the Howard family, it was still better than the cold Kennedy family.
"So, when's the wedding?" Adrian asked kindly.
