Chapter 318 A Gang of Thugs, Driven by Money
Victoria's phone buzzed, and she quickly told Alexander, "Hold on a sec," before answering, "Hello?"
"Victoria, the number you gave me pinged in a suburban area. I just sent you the exact location," the caller informed her.
"Got it," Victoria replied.
She hung up, checked the address, and immediately forwarded it to Alexander, asking him to send someone to check it out.
Alexander got the message and turned to Marcus, "Take a team and head to this spot."
Just then, Alexander's phone rang again. Victoria was about to answer when she caught a glimpse in the rearview mirror and noticed something.
Five black sedans had started tailing her, two on each side and one at the back, effectively boxing her in.
Victoria knew her cars. One look and she could tell these were modified, just like hers. Whoever was after her had gone all out.
Alexander couldn't get through to Victoria, but Dylan's call came in.
"Talk to me," Alexander's voice was low and seething with anger.
"Sir, we found out Christopher didn't use his usual crew. He hired black market thugs who only care about cash. They've already caught up with Mrs. Howard. There are five cars tailing her," Dylan reported.
"And each car's been souped up for better collision performance," Dylan added.
Some things didn't need to be spelled out. Dylan could feel the chill through the phone. Christopher was in for a world of hurt.
Alexander's icy voice cut through, "Have Gideon keep tabs on Christopher!"
"Yes, sir," Dylan replied.
Gideon, who was at Mystic Hall, got the call and immediately left with his team.
Victoria didn't have time to answer Alexander's call. Another unknown number popped up. She answered but stayed silent.
A rough male voice, the same one from before, came through. "Ms. Kennedy, our little game is about to start," he said with a sinister laugh. "Ready?"
Victoria pressed her lips together, not saying a word. She knew this wasn't going to be simple, and she was right.
The man continued, "Oh, I forgot to mention, Ms. Kennedy, your grandmother is in one of the five cars behind you. Better watch out."
Victoria's eyes narrowed, her voice cold, "Why should I believe you?"
The man didn't waste time and handed the phone to someone else, hitting the speaker button. "Old lady, say something."
Thalia glanced at the phone but didn't speak right away. At the nursing home, they had used Victoria's life to force Thalia to go with them. Now, they were using Thalia to threaten Victoria.
Thalia didn't know who these people were, but she wasn't naive. It was clear they were after Victoria. Thalia was shocked that in today's world, people could still be this brazen.
"Victoria, I'm fine," Thalia said, trying to keep her voice steady. She didn't want to be a burden. At her age, she'd come to terms with life and death. From the moment she was taken, her only worry had been Victoria.
"Don't worry about me, Victoria. I've walked more paths in life than you have," Thalia said calmly.
Hearing Thalia's gentle voice, Victoria's heart clenched. She got the message loud and clear: if it came down to it, don't worry about her. Thalia had lived a full life.
A cold light flashed in Victoria's eyes. She couldn't believe they had dragged a seventy-year-old woman into this mess. She had cut ties with Thalia to avoid this very situation. Someone must have tipped them off.
Victoria suddenly said, "Grandma, why don't you think of names for your future great-grandchildren? As many as you like."
Thalia laughed heartily, "Alright, I'll think of six. You and your husband can pick two."
The man took the phone back. "Ms. Kennedy, do you believe me now?" the rough voice said.
Victoria glanced at the rearview mirror, eyeing the cars tailing her. Her voice turned icy, "Remember what I said before. If there's a scratch or a bump, none of you will leave here."
With that, she hung up.
The closest people to Victoria now were Leroy and his team. She quickly made a call, which was answered promptly.
"Where are you?" Victoria asked.
Leroy replied, "We're following you but got blocked. Just dealt with it. We're fifteen minutes away."
Victoria didn't waste time. "There are five cars behind me. One has a license plate ending in M5376. There's an elderly woman in that car. Don't worry about anything else. Just make sure to rescue her in that car if you get the chance."
"Remember, I want her unharmed!" she added.
Leroy didn't hesitate. "Got it."
Victoria didn't call Alexander back but sent him a voice message explaining the situation. She knew Alexander would come, but it would take at least an hour and a half to drive from downtown Ridge City, even at top speed. She didn't have time to wait. She also knew Christopher had never given her a choice.
On the other side, Alexander had already switched to a private helicopter. Garrett and Caleb were with him. When Gideon received Dylan's call, they were both there. After understanding the situation, they had someone bring the helicopter over. Flying was faster than driving.
In his urgency and worry, Alexander hadn't thought of this. After receiving Kimberly's call, he had left in his car before Dylan and the others could react.
At the Imperial Club, Sophia's face darkened after receiving a call. She immediately headed to Ellington's private room. A few minutes later, Sophia and Ellington left the club in a hurry with their team.
